Well, after a week of sabatical from work I re-commuterized my bike today. I really liked riding it around semi-stripped. Oh well. all that weight adds to the workout. So, on went the steel rear rack and wald folding baskets again. I love them and I hate them at the same time.

I thought this might be appropriate place for my first post:

While I'm not a big commuter I do ride to work, and I am increasing the frequency with which I ride to work. The bike is an '07 Fisher Cronus, and so far all I have done with it is add an Edge 205, the Kryponite Lock and the Saddle bag. I have resisted fenders etc so far.

Thanks

DUDE!!!! I've seen you around! I'm on the Kona Hybrid bike, have you seen me? :)

Snow_canuck 06-13-07 04:22 PM

After looking at your google maps, I'll cycle your Taylor route tonight. Never gone that exact route. Thanks!

DukeArcher 06-13-07 07:52 PM

I'm a tourer first, commuter second:

Hi Snow_Canuck,

I can't say that I have but I'll keep an eye out now! Have you posted your bike on here? Where abouts do you commute, or was it on the weekend?

How'd the ride work out?

as long as you like it it was the right choice. Mine is the only one I see around here too. I did see 2 of them at the TDC but that's the only other time I've seen another one being ridden or parked anywhere other than at REI.

Hi, I think I saw you this morning (on Cordydon), you were wearing beige pants? I was at The Second Cup, but I was on my scooter. That Taylor ride was nice. I started at Pembina, down Taylor through the "forest" down Cordydon to Roblin, north on the perimeter over the river, down Portage Ave. Through Wosley to Main St, down St. Mary's to the Floodway, then just a short 5 km home. Total 73.05km, 2:35:00.

Snow_canuck 06-14-07 09:53 AM

Wait, it took me 2:50:00......whatever, my computer said the average was 24.5km/h. You figure out the time!!

07 Motobecane, 24 speed w/ Sora thingies. For $300, I can't complain.

Yup that was me this morning, taking advantage of the new asphalt on Corydon, was cruising at just around 30 which is pretty quick for me (I'm 265lbs and woefully out of shape).

Wow that's much farther then I've ever gone! My longest to date was 38km towing my boys in a trailer and I was beat after that. My calculations with 2:50 show you were going 26km/h for that long, wow!

Nice bike! Oh, good blog too, I'm sure you'll have a great trip. I'm thinking of doing something similar next year.

DukeArcher 06-14-07 10:41 PM

Hey thanks! I'll be staying in London for a while to save funds before I conquer the rest of the world, so drop me an email when you're going on your trip!

nasiralpharia 06-14-07 11:26 PM

Heres what I ride, although I'm still adding accessories. I have some REI panniers too which are not pictured. I'm going to get a rear rack for the townie and one for the Peugeot. The Trek is pretty much complete.

You need to trick that bad boy out with some fenders then it'll be perfect!

Nice thing about being a commuter in LA,CA fenders not really needed. I do think they look cool on some bikes, tho...especially the chrome ones, or the wooden ones..:)
