mrbrown: Beautiful bike. I've been thinking of getting a Mu P24 for days when I multi-mode commute (train + bike). How do you like it and how long is your commute?

The grip kings are longer from front to back than the average pedal, but they have a recessed mounting area for the power grips which is the same width as any other platform pedal. Therefore, the power grip is not "too diagonal". In fact, they fit perfect. No special mounting, no modifications.

And together, they make an excellent combination for commuting....in fact I now use this setup on all my bikes.

I am digg'n that basket, I guess its easy to remove and will fit ok on a Cannondal rack? Looks better than my milkcrate ziptied to the rack. Love to see some closer pics if ya got'em

No closer pics at the moment, but for now I'll point you to what it is --

The rack and basket are both from Topeak. They all use a slide-in track system, so you can quickly secure and detach that basket or one of their trunk bags. It's WAY handy. I hadn't seriously considered a basket until I saw how often my sister used hers that stays bolted onto her rack (not a Topeak system).

Will do. The Free Spirit cost me $10 and, from what I can tell, is actually one of the more decent ones (made in Austria). I was upgrading parts on the Quintana Roo from 105 9 speed to DA 9 speed, so I just took most of the 105 and used it on the Ted Williams. I still need a long reach rear brake, handlebar tape, and to run cables, but it should be just about ready to go after that.

This is my commuter
1989 Gazelle Trim Trophy with Shimano 600 7speed and Wolber Profil 36 spoke wheels.
Added a Tubus Logo rack, 35 mm SKS bluemel fenders, Basta backlight and Cateye frontlight. Changed the stem into Cinelli XE, ITM handlebar and put on some new Schwalbe Lugano 700x23 mm.

Looks like the forks on the POS Columbia 12-speed I had in high school that my mother ill-advisedly got me after my BMX was stolen. I rode it like a BMX and after a few months of jumping curbs the forks were bent out so far the brakes weren't aligned with the rims anymore. After hating that stinker so much I gave up on bicycles for more than a decade.

I love my MU P24! It is very good on varied roads with its 24 speeds, and I take it on the subway without any problems. I started using it for multi-mode but ended up riding all the way for most of my appointments.

I commute to work about 7km daily each way and I also ride the P24 to meetings as far as 24km away. No problems. When it rains, I fold it up and take a public bus or the subway.

Some find the rear wheel a little heavy (cos of the Dual Drive hub) but I don't feel it much. I already load the rack with my trunk bag or pannier, so I am used to having weight on the rear wheel anyway.

I have a Curve too, and it is slightly smaller. Sometimes in a crowded train, it does make a slight difference but with 3-speeds only, the Curve is not that suited for long hilly rides. So it is a trade off.

The P24 is the bike I ride most often out of my three bikes. It is a workhorse and very versatile.
