What size tires do you have on that bike? They look like cyclocross tires, am I correct?

Here's my just-completed Soma Double Cross I'll be commuting on. I bought the frame and parts yesterday morning and finished the bike this morning. After the first short test ride, I'll say I *really* like this bike! I even built the wheels myself. :)

My all weather commuter bike

We have been building an information section/gallery of utility cyclists and their bikes for our chainguard.org/probicycle.com site for some time now. excellent....i can relate. have an old ross mountain bike that still has the freewheel, but has been my single speed commuter/beater for years. it was that or trash it. what a blast for go anywhere, do anything, just have fun riding.

I finally got my commuter pretty well finished. I got a seatpost mounted trunk rack, and a basic trunk bag, because all I really need is a way to carry my lunch, and spare jacket. I usually take a duffle bag of clothes to work on the days that I drive my car, and leave them in my locker, so I don't need to carry much when I commute on my bike.
The new NightRover Xtra 16w light is working out fantastic. It seems to be plenty bright for my 15mph avg speed. My bike as is, weighs about 27.5#. Fully loaded with lunch and spare stuff, it comes in at 32#. I figure it's better to have that on the bike, than on my back with my backpack.

Nice commuter. Practical and sensible. A backpack works well for a few things. That nice sized bag will allow you to pack things in an orderly way without overloading a backpack. Nice setup.

Hey Mike Like Bike - congrats on the 7200 FX! I just helped my parents purchase a couple of 7200s, and you're right - they're great bikes!

Anyway, I posted photos of this bike back in February, but it's undergone some changes since then, so I'm reposting it. The bike is my Miyata 210 commuter/tourer/all-rounder.

The first photo is the bike as it was the day I purchased it, second-hand. The second photo is of the bike about a month and a half later, as I was using it for commuting to work and around campus. The third photo is the bike in its current state (sorry for the small size and white border-thing). As you can see, I now have red and green handlebar tape, which looks pretty classy with the blue-painted frame, if I do say so myself. The wrapping job on the right side is kind of iffy, though - cloth tape is much harder to wrap than vinyl! I also finally caved in and bought some shiny new Tektro cantis. The brakes I've had in the past have either a) fit correctly or b) had good stopping power. These do both! And on top of that, they look nice. In its present form, this bike weighs in at almost exactly 30 lbs - definitely a solid commuter!

Unfortunately, although I love it very much, this bike has problems with fit and compatibility for parts and accessories, so in about a year I plan to build up a Surly LHT for touring work and use this bike as more of a runabout/beater for errands - perhaps as a singlespeed or fixie. Until then, it will probably (finally) remain more or less unchanged, as I am at long last satisfied with my setup!

That is a great bike, and looks like a perfect commuter/allrounder. I would only ask for some rack braze ons, but there are other ways to do that. What city is the shop in?

I thought throughly about what I needed in a bike. When I came up for air, I realized I really wanted a good all round geared city bike and a light fast single speed. My budget only allowed for one bike so I got the practical one.
The Urbane Cyclist , http://www.ucycle.com/ , is a shop in Toronto.
They have a lot fixed/singles, commuters and parts. The store also carries a couple of house designed frames like the one I bought.

That looks like a nice shop. Most of the LBS around here focus on the bike as a toy rather than transportation. A few years back I passed up a Marin San Anselmo with a Nexus drivetrain. Even though it was on sale I decided I didn't need another bike at the time. I have been kicking myself ever since. The more recent San Anselmo is not nexus based. My dream would be a Rohloff Speedhub bike for around town, but I will probably have to go with Nexus and your bike is pretty much what I have in mind.

This is my commuter bike. It's 14375 miles (23000 kilometers) "old" and I use it since 4 1/2 years to go to work 2x9=18 miles (15/30 kilometers) the whole year. It's made by "Velotraum", a small shop with very good reputation in the south of Germany. They build up only 26" bikes with Fort frames. I use it with battery lights and Ortlieb bag. I love my bike very much :) .

Here's my Commuter to/fro work

most of my commutes are done on these two bikes:

the maroon Schwinn World Sport is my fixed gear, Professor Plum. It has a gear ratio of 42:16, it's my favorite bike.

the aqua Nishiki Rally is a 10 speed (52/42 up front, 14-28 five speed in back), I call it Aqua Von Puss Puss, I got it for $10 and added a chain, new bar tape and some tires I had lying around then overhauled it.

Finally got around to taking a pic. Here is my Salsa Las Cruces. The disc brakes work great in the rain.

I'm seeing a lot of orange this year. Orange is the new black? ;)
