I still need to get panniers and a computer for it and a couple other things and I will be all set to either be commuting to school in the Fall or to work.

My previous bikes were all department store bikes (pre-1996) and this is my first LBS bike and I couldnt be happier.

We're getting my husbands bike on the 10th (Crosstrail Sport)

I am looking forward to meeting your new bikes... :)

I will see about posting a more detailed "how to" in the longbike thread.

Sixty Fiver,
Thanks, Man! Excellent thread; I was sorry to get to the end of it.

My Green "Roche" (rock) Monster. It's my all weather goer set up as a fixed gear. I switched out the fork to help with those rainy days and they really make a noticeable difference.

I'm thinking of putting some larger tires on it like Schwalbe Marathon Supremes or Vittoria Randonneur Hyper tires. Does anyone have any comparison of the two? I'm leaning more toward the Vittoria because a set is the same $ as just 1 Schwalbe tire

I haven't had a chance to use the lights yet but I'm hopeful::thumb:

Let us know how effective they are. I'm sure if they're not, you'll be able to modify them.

I considered the 'City', but since I don't live in a city :) and since I ride
a lot of dirt and gravel 'roads' and over fields etc. and since I wanted to
use my Rhode Gear back rack and eventually have a high end lighting system
(it hasn't happened yet), I opted for the 'Sport'.
Because of the diagonal top tube, it's quite a massive bike (especially the front end). I like it a lot.

... O. K., I love it!

First bike!

I'm glad to announce the purchase of my first LBS bike. After much consideration and a ton of test-rides I picked up a Specialized Tricross Comp 2008 model. Yesterday was her first ride, around 22 miles and she performed beautifully.

So far you're looking at a stock Tricross with Shimano M540 pedals, i have Specialized Sport MTB shoes to match. A blackburn MTB rack (from the late 80's pulled it off an old hard tail mountain bike) Mars 4.0 rear blinky, Flea front light. Still need to get a computer and panniers or a trunk bag for commuting.

I know, its clunky looking and old. I purchased it in the 80s'. It still works fine; snd, its age and general appearance provides a natural theft deterrence.

Yep, he's branching out a bunch. 4.5 yr old is moving onto the trailabike from the trailer too.

noglider 07-05-09 11:13 AM

noisebox, that's quite a step up, from whatever you had before. I looked up the specs of that model. Very fancy and capable indeed. So are those frame tubes steel? I see the fork has carbone blades and an aluminum steerer tube. And the list price is $2050. Wow.

I really like Specialized's higher models. I think they make excellent bikes, despite the fact that their name ("Specialized") sounds so stupid to me.

National Renacle

National Relacle - Three Wheeler Electric Tricycle. I have been using this trike for almost a week and enjoyed commuting around the city. I just finished replacing the spokes with stainless steel and repainted the fenders pearl white. The trike uses a Nexus 3-Speed hub which keeps it more efficient.

My "new" commuter. Trek Elance 400. I've been looking for a roadie for a while and found this at a local pawn shop. In this condition! Paid $175

Beautiful bike. My favorite LBS had a Trek 2300 carbon composite the other day with I believe some "slightly" older Ultegra components for $350.00. I wish I would have had extra cash.

I was riding a Trek Antelope 700 from the early 90's, this is a huge upgrade. I opted to invest a good amount into a bike as this will be a replacement for my car. After a ton of research i could not determine whether the E5 material is steel or aluminum based, i'm going to assume it's steel but it's super light. Since this model sat unsold in the corner of the shop for a few years i got a great discount on it. The decals on the bike are getting removed once i find a safe way to do it without damaging the paint.

Clunky...nahh but I like what I see. Looks like Suntour Montech derailers with a Sakae or Sugino cranks, the really cool suntour shifters that automatically move the FD when you shift the RD to keep the FD from dragging the chain and a Suntour Perfect freehub with 32 tooth 1st gear. I'm guessing it is a 84ish Miyata 210 maybe?

Looks nice to me. :)

Love your bike and thanks for posting because it helped hubby to figure out where to mount the kryptonite bracket. It was driving us nuts

Dawes Lightning Cross, been using it for 3 weeks with some minor upgrades. My old hybrid Fuji Supreme 2005 (seen barely visible in top right corner) just didn't cut it on my 20 mi. round trip. Pretty happy with and proud of the new ride (even if it is an online bike).

All this bike needs is new brake levers that hide the cable under the tape :D.

It may shock you to hear that vintage is "in."

If you loosen the alen screw in the white metal thing that attaches to the bracket it can be turned. so you can set the bracket sideways on the seat post and still be in line with the top tube when it is clipped in.

Thanks I will let him know when he is back in town:)

delman 07-06-09 06:06 PM

Hmm. I hadn't posted my newer bike yet. Had it for several months though. I think most of the mods are done as I am pretty happy now. I normally have a grocery pannier on it when I ride though to keep all my stuff in.

That's one of the positions I tried when I bought the lock, but the back rack doesn't allow it to get close enough to the bike for clearance.

This position works as well:

Is there anyway I could get a closer shot of how you have that mounted please?

Thanks
