Nice, I like that blue and yellow scheme. What Lemond frame is that? This makes me wonder what I will end up doing with my Victoire when the Ultegra shifters wear out.

Dcv 12-12-10 11:22 AM

2001 Zurich, mine's was built up w/ cheaper tiagara components and the rear shifter recently broke, perfect excuse to convert.

people need to get over the brakeless = fashion thing. i mean, we get it, you dont like the trendy, ignorant youth that frequent YOUR coffeeshop. how dare they ride a bicycle like you do... would you rather they park their lime green civics out front and play loud bass-heavy music and rev their cars too 8000rpm? thats what kids did ten years ago when i was younger. im fine with them riding bikes now...

besides, 'hipsters' ride fully rigid SS 29ers now anyway. dont you know?

i dont agree with your opinion on the brakeless = fashion thing entirely but your comment above is effing hilarious. so good.

Before anyone posts anything else about brake-less fixed gear bikes, take a look at this:

These bikes are beautiful, guys!

AlmostTrick 12-12-10 07:42 PM

Since this is the "commuter bike picture thread", maybe everyone with an opinion on the brakeless issue could take it outside already. :)

Pedal On!

Agreed, less banter, moar commuter pics!

Nice shot, Sixty. Obviously not from the last few weeks! Whereabouts is that?

That bike looks great. Did you use one of the Nashbar touring frames? If so, do you mind outlining what components you used? (crank, shifters, derailleur, etc.) I've been looking at doing something very close to that same look.

Thanks!

Its a Surly Pacer frame (I took all the decals off). The components ended up being an odd hodgepodge of Shimano stuff. I'm very happy with it though. I found a full groupset on ebay that included shifters, derailers, brakes, crank and bottom bracket. It was all 105 stuff except the rear derailer, which was an Ultegra. After installing everything, I broke the front/left shifter trying to get everything adjusted. My local bike shop just happened to have a very slightly used set of Dura Ace shifters at a great price so, I swapped out the shifters with those.

The headset is a Chris King. The wheels are Velocity Deep Vs with Velocity Road hubs.

There are several pictures of this bike scattered throughout the commuting forum, but I thought I would post another, more seasonable shot. Sorry, it's a bit blurry. 2000 Raleigh Inferno mountain bike that's been commuterized.

Nope, we haven't had nearly as much snow as Minneapolis.

Down by the river... will have to go and revisit this spot now that we have snow and the ground of frozen.

:)

Here's a couple pics of my commuter bike after it met with an Infinity Q45 that was making an illegal right-turn from the wrong lane.

That sucks and hope you are okay... you should get a black felt pen and write Confente on your frame when the insurance company comes to calculate replacement costs.

And make sure you are covered as well.

GriddleCakes 12-15-10 03:47 AM

Man, you come in here looking for bike pr0n, only to find bike snuff instead. :(

Glad that you came out alive and not too broken, and I hope that your frame is OK. In a better world the insurance company would fully compensate you for medical, bike repair/replacement, work time lost, and suffering; on top of jacking the Infiniti driver's rates so high that the idiot would have to stop driving. While the latter is unlikely, the former is possible. Best of luck with the claim, and don't be shy about bringing in a lawyer if the insurance company balks. It may seem sleazy, but it's how the system works.

Sixty Fiver 12-15-10 03:56 AM

From tonight... there was nary a car on the roads.

That Linux Guy 12-15-10 10:38 AM

Deshi, I'm alright. I'm a bit banged up but I'll definitely be riding again as soon as I get my whip repaired or replaced. Oh well; I was tossing around the idea of building new wheels anyway (black hubs/spokes with silver Velocity Deep V rims would look really cool IMO).

I'm actually waiting for the lawyer to meet me now. They sound very optimistic about my case since it's a clear-cut, no-fault accident and the law is on my side.

Griddle, I'm sorry for upping the bike pr0n ante too hardcore. :) I come here for the same reason but the Spesh *is still* my commuter. Enough with the snuff, on with the pr0n. :D

pallen 12-15-10 10:46 AM

Yikes! Speedy recovery to you and your bike.

Fizzaly 12-15-10 05:51 PM

Figured ive been posting nearly two month old pics of the kuwie, about time to put some new ones up. Ive got about 700mi on it now since the build with only a broken chain (had over 3kmi on it). Im stilll loving it, its got everything you need stability, strength, holds it own in sprint. I fear i was too lazy by not adding a clear coat on and the metallic paint is just too thin ive already got cable and lock rub down to the primer. But maybe the next snow fall ill tear her down and repaint:)

Ahem, bikes:

Univega Grand Turismo. Supposedly built in the Miyata factory. Brooks. Coolstop Salmon pads. Schwalbe Marathon tires. Built like an ox.

You gotta squint to see it. ;)

http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/4051/adsc1601.jpg

Old steel beast. Rando handle bars with Shellac over Riv nude cork tape. Brooks b17 copper. Coasties Coaster Brake wheel set - two years - no front brake - no problems, AND I've raced it in Seattle: http://coasties.com/blog/coasti-es-a...ssault-seattle

@That Linux Guy: Bike snuff pictures scare the hell out of me. I'm glad you are mending. If you want a set of wheels built with black spokes, I'll give you a helluva deal.
