Picked up this Specialized Hardrock a few days ago., Replaced crank with a road triple, added treaded to threadless adapter with a longer reach stem, added 26 x 2.0 Serfas Drifter tires, changed saddle( plan on putting my Brooks B-15 later) rear rack with Nashbar day trekking panniers. I also have been kicking around putting trekking bars on to see if I like them.

fender1 - That is too sweet to just be a winter bike... wow.
Last night I got to ride home through a little snow storm but found a little oasis of light... http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikep...er2011uav2.JPG |

Beautiful. Is that a SON dynohub? And, may I ask, why didn't you go for the the Double Cross DC frame instead of the canti model? I just ask since you're running a disc up front.

I decided I should try out putting a rear rack and something to hold stuff on my Windsor Shetland and see how it works out. So I looked through my availiable rear racks put on this Bontrager rack and some cheap Nashbar panniers I had laying around and here it is. I guess I didn't stuff the panniers with anything, but I didn't get any heel strike even with my toes on the pedals. I didn't really have any issues fitting up the rack at all. I guess now I need to find some fenders. I don't have anything that I know of lying around that will work though.
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...e/IMG_2132.jpg 2. About the only fender idea I've had so far is to use the downtube strap-on variety for the front and just let the rack do the job for the back. Unless I can beat someone up with a Dahon for their fenders... :) I will see what I have in my parts stash and make something happen. |
the new "OMFG, it's REALLY crappy out there" commuter
http://www.chipcom.net/bikes/motobecane.jpg I put it together this weekend, but of course the roads were clear, dry and relatively salt-free this morning, so it's still waiting for its first appearance hauling my butt to work. 40% chance of snow tomorrow...we'll see. |

I just picked up this Bianchi Milano Parco today. Its so fantastic and I love the 3-speed gear range in my little test rides so far. My Monocog is back up on Craigslist after acquiring this sweet little 3-speed. Its light and pretty fast not to mention its pretty sweet looking. I wonder how hard it would be to get a front fender that matches. For now I can put on something I have lying around so this can be my winter commuter.
EDIT: if anyone is curious this is the classic Bianchi Celeste green its just weird overcast late afternoon lighting that makes it look more blue than it is. http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...e/IMG_2142.jpg |

This is my winter beater. It's a 1991 Specialized Hardrock that I acquired off of craigslist this past fall. I nicknamed it the "Squirrel" due to the fact it gets squirrelly without studded tires on it. A purchase I don't plan to make. |

Am I seeing things or are you tires flat?

1. I am insanely jealous. I have the yellow one... still sitting in its box because I haven't had time for it yet. :( This week, though, I hope to have mine on the road.

Unless I can beat someone up with a Dahon for their fenders... :) I will see what I have in my parts stash and make something happen. I might end up making some fenders if I need some. I don't know if I will actually keep this bike in commuter duty or not. I might use the Dahon instead and have this for other things. I haven't decided yet. Right now I am experimenting with some moutache bars on it right now. I think I actually really like them, but I haven't taken it out for a long test ride yet so the jury is out. I think this bike looks better with the drop bars, but maybe I will change my mind. |

macdonwald, parts list if you please.

That's a beautiful bike macdonwald, congratulations!

I pretty much strip the seat bags and lights off of the bike after every ride. I don't commute MUCH on the bike anymore as I work a lot from home and I can bike between clients as it is paid travel time. But here is mine for now.
