My Monocog is back up on Craigslist after acquiring this sweet little 3-speed. Its light and pretty fast not to mention its pretty sweet looking. I wonder how hard it would be to get a front fender that matches. For now I can put on something I have lying around so this can be my winter commuter.

EDIT: if anyone is curious this is the classic Bianchi Celeste green its just weird overcast late afternoon lighting that makes it look more blue than it is.

Oh yeah monsterpile this is what i got so far for that new build. I picked up a 2005 trek 300 for free along with some same year unused specialized tires so far im up to a bit over 10LBS so i gotta find a bunch of light stuff to try for under 20LBS Im going to strip all the paint and polish the alum and try and keep all comp black to really set off the red rims.http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2..._1962457_n.jpg

LOL I'll make sure to keep this thing away from her. I almost felt like I stole it from the pawn shop I bought it from. I feel bad for whoever had to give it up.

I rode it to work today and other than the sliding around on snow and ice it was fantastic. I do have to get used to the gaps in the gear range but its a really fun bike. With a missing fender it come in at 26.5 lbs certainly not heavy. Its hard not to gush about the bike.

Thats a nice frame for free. I think its a bit different but I love my Trek MTB frame alot. Polished aluminum frame, those red rimes with black everything else will look pretty cool. What fork are you going with?

That is almost exactly what I will build if I ever retire my Bianchi Valle. :thumb:

A good bike from a pawn shop in Lincoln?! You have accomplished the "near impossible"

Thanks for the compliment. Thats why I rarely go into them for that reason, but I have gotten lucky a few times. When I go its only go to a couple that are downtown near the thrift stores I go to. Right now they actually have some decent deals (not killer ones) on a couple bikes but nothing I need but some of them I would be very interested if I knew someone that needed something. One had a Gary Fisher I kinda wanted for a couple months, but I couldn't justify the used market value price for a MTB I didn't need. If you are interested I can tell you where those shops are.

I actually decided to go to the thrift stores that day because someone on C&V said people were donating tons of stuff for the end of the year so he went trying to get some nice bikes. The thrift stores I went to were pretty cleaned out in general of stuff that wasn't clothes, but I guess I applied the same idea to the pawn shops and got lucky. I should probably thank that guy. LOL

I don't live in Lincoln anymore, but visit there quite often, and I am 99.9% sure on which stores you are talkin' about. The pawn shop that used to be next to Game Stash had a Basso for sale one time, but I didn't get paid for another week and when I came back it was gone :(

Thanks for the list. How do you like the dyno light setup? Very nice looking ride. May you have many happy miles on it.

Now it's time to scrape and paint that garage door! Really nice build.

Swapped my flat bar/Ergon GC3 setup for some Trekking bars to give me a more upright position for the winter season:

You'll have to let us know how the belt drive holds up through the winter.

So far, in a word, awesome. Number of times I would have had to clean and lube my traditional drivetrain by this time of year: 6-12. Number of times this year I've had to even give my belt-drive system a second thought: 0. I could tout the Gates Carbon Drive System all day, but you really have to experience it to appreciate the benefits. There is a bit of a learning curve re: tension & alignment, but once you have it dialed in, it's a little bit of Heaven.
:love:

Here is my urban commuter: a Schwinn Sierra GS with an XL frame. It started out as a comfort hybrid bike. I have made many changes and additions to the bike.

http://i711.photobucket.com/albums/w...1-07171849.jpg

Here are the changes and additions I've made:

Changed the stock saddle to a Forte Contour;
Swapped out the Innova tires for Continental Contact tires;
Changed the freewheel to have faster gear ratios;
Swapped out the stock riser bars for flat (with Avenir grips and a mirror);
Changed the grip shifters to Sram X-3 trigger shifters;
Swapped the plastic pedals for alloy clipless/platform pedals;
Added Planet Bike fenders;
Added a Cateye headlight and taillight set;
Added a Cateye cyclocomputer; and,
Added a Nashbar LDT rack.

The bike is now more comfortable for long rides and easier to ride in windy conditions.

Cool, I think that and disc brakes will be my set up for next year. Thanks!

This is my Mongoose Deception. It was hard to mount all that stuff on it but I got it to a point where it's strong and I like it. I'm just heading out on a shopping trip now.

Frankly, I'm afraid to touch that door with a scraper for fear it will crumble.

And to answer a separate question, yeah, I'm liking the Dyno set-up, although I may need to tweak the angle a bit. It's got a nice cut-off, which is a big improvement over the non-bike specific splashy flashlight I was using before, but right now I think it may be angled a bit high.

Finally found the perfect handlebar bag for my need-em-now essentials -- the Rickshaw Bagworks Pipsqueak:
