SteveJ,
You planning on touring with that Trek? Very nice, btw.

Yep i do plan on a few weekend tours in the future, the first of which will be in about 3 weeks, really looking forward to it.

Yes it's a great bike, only had it 2 weeks maybe. The bar tape is the standard bontrager tape, looks like leather in the pics but it's just coloured that way, it's gotten a little grubby too since i've had it.

This has been my commuter for the last month due to weird work things that don't let me watch my bike while working and also i love riding it around. I probably do between 8-20 miles a day on it. I am tired a lot. :)

Haven't had time/$ to accessorize it much, but I'm very happy to have my new Giant Trans Send DX!

dcdirewolf,
Nice bike! You look like you have all the essentials. I willed myself back from the over-accessorized camp and I am much happier.

My fun little Trek 7.3 FX, well not little, 60cm frame. It is by far one of the most fun bikes I have ridden in the past year, as I just got back into cycling after about 15 years of not cycling, maybe even longer. It is stock all the way, except for the Bontrager quick-release rack and Trek pack.

I accidentally bought this. Woops. But I think it is cool. Nice condition and all with working generator head light!

This will be my "lock-up on campus" bike.

Looks great. Post it in the Varsity appreciation thread.

Maybe later this week I'll post my Varsity in here with the latest mods I've put on it.

I believe that's the stock tape, but it really does match the saddle nicely. Thank you for replacing those worthless stock fenders, too.

Rear rack and folding baskets make for plenty o' storage and more even weight distribution... and it is good.

Yep. That's how much she weighs.

bugly64 06-23-09 03:34 AM

That looks more like a grocery trip instead of commute trip. Nice paint job.

Elderberry 06-23-09 07:43 AM

I s'pose you're right. It was on my way home from work, though.

Nice DIY front rack, Elderberry!

First post here. I recently started commuting 10 miles round trip and bought the San Jose when I got a little more serious. This bike is really well thought out and I am having a blast. I may switch to a 16t rear freewheel but we will see.

Thanks for all the knowledge and information here!

I had a Trek Y3 for over 12 years. Just picked up a 2009 7.5FX last week.

Here is my commuter bike. It's heavy, but it climbs beautifully. This bike has far exceeded my expectations in the quality of the ride.

I'd love to feel what that rides like, 65er. We're currently fixing up a 50's or 60's clone of a Raleigh Sports, which is upright and lively compared with that. We were remarking at how relaxed it feels. I bet yours could ride no hands easily.

Roadsters are so uncommon here whereas the Raleigh Sports was sold widely over many decades and even manufactured in Canada after 1978.

There is no comparison between the bikes when it comes to ride quality... I sold my '78 Superbe because the ride was too upright and harsh for my back whereas I can ride the Rudge a decent distance in fair degree of comfort.

The fellow who has my old Superbe adores it but has also ridden the Rudge... he is now on a mission to find one for himself.

What kind of back problem do you have, and how far can you ride in a day these days? I had a crippling back problem 20 years ago which I solved with surgery. It's creeping back now, but this time, it comes mostly in the form of painfully numb feet. I've had a neurologist determine that the problem with my foot is a pinched nerve in my back.

noglider 06-24-09 01:03 PM

I just googled "roadster bicycle" and I see someone is selling replicas. Does anyone know if these are decent? The price seems too low.

http://www.hiwheel.com/antique_repli...t_roadster.htm

I bet you can get them in China really easily. For a long time, I think it was the only model available.

I have a nerve impingement / damage at my L4 which causes me a great deal difficulty in walking and standing... cycling is good therapy as it relieves the pressure on the affected nerves and keeps my left leg from withering away.

I don't have any experience with those replicas but am sure they are of Indian or Chinese manufacture... they sell for $50.00 new in India and believe the price in China is similar.

I'll be riding my reconfigured Schwinn Varsity to work tomorrow. It started out as a Varsity Sport, but now it's a Varsity Tourist

I would be a little aprehensive to buy a bike with "rideable" in the name.
