I like the color you have now, but any rich primary color would work. I like the simplicity of this for example:

Sorry, somehow the link was broken.

I just used a pair of wire clippers. Other tools would make a cleaner cut. Only had to cut the sides at the seat stays, the rest fit fine under the brake.

U.A.V. vs 3.1

Restored to it's original 18 speed glory albeit with nicer XT hubs and Araya RM20 wheels, XT crank with Biopace rings (knees love these) and am running a few watts of light up front to light my way.

Long live the Kuwie, as always it's an awesome bike. I got excited for a bit as someone on Boise's craigslist has a 87' kuwie Panther same as mine listed for 30 bucks all original, but I called and it's a 16" frame wayyy to small.

Where's the frame??? All I see are wheels and a bunch of bags...

One thing I prefer not to do is tote a lot of stuff on my commutes. I want to keep it simple, basic. Flat repair tools, something for lunch and work attire, if need be. Thats about it. I can get all that in a backpack or bag, about 2/3 the size of the one shown on this bike.
I know everyone is different, and we all have our own wants and needs. Local weather might dictate your load, for example. I live in South Carolina, where the weather is generally mild. Elsewhere, who knows?

I think the derailleur cover is a pretty cool idea, however!

It started as my winter messenger bike (fixed gear), ran it as a three speed through several winters but over the summer really enjoyed riding it on slicker tyres... those Schwalbe Silentos have carried me a lot of miles since May and I am loving the ride and handling.

It is doing well for a 22 year old bicycle that was in pretty scruffy shape when I got it as a frame and fork and think I will use it for my next metric ride to see my mom as it should tour just as well as it's younger sister.

Also wanted to set up a Shimano drive train as most of my bikes are Suntour equipped and the light action deraileur and XT friction thumbies work marvelously.

Got it for my christmas when I was 12, and just dug it out of my dads garage. Needs a back rack like the one above, fenders and a few bits here and there. Final plan is to be my mule, grocery getter etc

Who says commuters dont follow The Rules:

Rule #8 Saddles, bars, and tires shall be carefully matched.


Valid options are:

• Match the saddle to the bars and the tires to black; or
• Match the bars to the color of the frame at the top of the head tube and the saddle to the color of the frame at the top of the seat tube and the tires to the color where they come closest to the frame; or
• Match the saddle and the bars to the frame decals; or
• Black, black, black

The Velominati are an amusing bunch, with their rules. If coordination is a true concern then this bike doesn't have any problems that a set of gumwalls can't fix.

Coordination counts, of course. It is a distinct element of "style."

Have done some of my best work in that spot over the years... it is the bench at the co-op and contains almost everything one might need to overhaul a bicycle.

It has developed quite a patina from tens of thousands of hours of use.

Well, actually slavery is more like being chained to oars, forced to row a galley - until you die.

Style, on the other hand, gives you options and choice. It is one of the few places where you can genuinely START a trend with nothing more than courage and "that which moves you..." and a bit of coordination.
