I recently put together (am still putting together...) this commuter/weekend ride bike. I commute around 20 miles round trip each day.

20-inch MALON King King folding bike commuter. For now I use a Sea to Summit 13L Dry Sack to pack my work clothes on the way back home from work. This will be replaced next week by one of those Topeak MTX TrunkBag DXP.

Smokinapankake 07-11-11 07:15 AM

Old 1988 ish Giant something or other mtn bike. I've since replaced the wheels with some nicer 9 speed units and slick tires (Bontrager Eco or something). This was when Giant first came onto the US scene with their own name branded bikes. It was originally grey with purple accents and sports a triple butted frame. Came with Mountain LX components but they have been mostly upgraded with a mishmash of parts scrounged off other thrift store bikes. I like it.

8-spd alfine IGH, hydraulic disc brakes, & clearance for wide tires. this thing is gonna make one hell of a winter beast.

Fizzaly 07-12-11 10:27 AM

Is this the Raleigh's replacement?

Did you get the frame from Nashbar? Either way I like it.

yep. the old raleigh worked ok as a back-up/winter commuter, but seeing as how i had to replace it after the bus accident, i figured i might as well get what i really wanted for winter duty, which was disc brakes and an IGH.

Fizzaly 07-12-11 12:56 PM

I like it, I even like the bright orange color, I also like how the fork crown goes right into the headset makes it look clean.

Thanks! I did get it from Nashbar. I was able to apply a promotion that brought the price to about $250. There were a few minor hiccups but it was definitely worth getting. I like it.

I'm a daily commuter in Barcelona (Spain) and I have a 2nd hand Francesco Moser 14 speed racing bike. I installed a smaller steering wheel for navigating between cars and busses. It's a very nice and fast bike :D

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=210880 My bike. Kona Dew with some additions to make the commute a little more tolerable. 12 and a half miles downhill into work and a 12 and a half mile climb with a 1600 ft elevation change going home. Blind curves, narrow lanes, and fast traffic. Its exciting at times.

I rode to my new job for the first time Friday. There are no racks or anywhere to lock up my bike, so I hauled it up the stairs to my office.

Bought new in 1979 - Fuji 12 speed. I have a replacement Brooks saddle coming and will likely put drop bars back on as well.

It started its life as a hi-ten Puch cavalier, and it's grown up quite a bit since then. My backpack holds everything I need to get to work, and I don't like riding in rain, so no racks or fenders at the moment. My lens fogged over the second I pulled out the camera. The photo's kind of creepy.

Sweet bike! That chain appears to be slightly lose though and I would highly recommend fenders for it if you plan on commuting in the winter.

Steely Dan 07-18-11 08:53 PM

^ yeah, I noticed the slack chain too, but I don't know how to adjust the eccentric bottom bracket. I loosened the bolts on the bottom, but couldn't get the mechanism to turn. I probably need some special tool I don't have. In any event, the bike is do for it's free tune-up at REI so they'll hopefully take care of that.

I'm still looking for good fenders at a good price, but I still got some time to sort that out.

Looks like a sweet work ride, but if that's your war ride then you're gonna lose:

Unless you've got something stashed away in those panniers that you wouldn't want the ATF to know about. :)
