First bike I ever bought in 1997 a Trek Mountain Track 800 Sport.

Most has been changed minus the headset, BB, front wheel, and frame of course. This thing get's a lot of miles especially as a loaner bike or when my main is in the shop. Just put linears on this year and the improvement is there but not as much clearance as the old canti's (factory original).

New pic of the Soma, ready to ride in to work tomorrow...

Got Fisty setup with reflective tape today for commuter mode, will try to add more to the sides of the bike I just don't want to get it on the paint since this stuff doesn't seem to come off when set (resale options in future), I'm thinking the cranks would be a good place.

The Soma Double Cross was on my short list but the Vassago Black Friday deal sent me over the edge and it has crazy amounts of tire clearance (29x1.9).

@xb_Nutt: How did you get the rear caliper mounted on the inside of the chainstays? All the pics on Soma's site show the caliper mounts outboard.

I believe one of the years they did the brakes on the chainstay like that @ 2005?

That's the way it came. I was pleasantly surprised about the rear disc caliper relocation to the chainstay. Makes fender and rack install a breeze. They got rid of the downtube shifter bosses though, that I wasn't thrilled about since I had a set of downtube shifters I was going to use for the build. Their site makes no mention of the changes. I even emailed them and asked about it, but got no response. You would think they would update their site or at least add some text alluding to the changes...

Looks like an old Cannondale Super V with a whack front wheel. I think the more important question is what kind of front wheel is that?

Its one of the stock photos from Revopower. Yep, it's a Cannondale.

Total vapourware. This product never made it to the market, was delayed over and over, and the company website disappeared.

It's hardly a new idea, or anything revolutionary. Look up rotary engine, it's been used over 120 years ago.

Check out the Megola motorcycle in particular, it's pretty sweet.

Can't fool BF, can they? :D

Between fresh snow and cold temperatures, I've been a bit lazy about biking for the past week. Should be back in the saddle tomorrow, but in the meantime, the bike's sure looking pretty.

Beautiful photos and a beautiful bike Terry66, time to get it dirty! :thumb:

jdswitters 01-18-11 10:17 AM

that is nice!

FreddyV 01-18-11 12:43 PM

I seriously hate it that some of you have such nice bikes. Amazing Surly.

Terry66 01-18-11 01:27 PM

Thanks guys...It was a fun build. I bought the frame for under $400. Universal Cycles had it for $420, I had a 15% discount code and it was free shipping. The 105/Ultegra brifters, crank, derailleurs, bars, stem and seat post all came from a 2007 Trek road bike that I got for $300. I sold the Trek's wheelset and am selling the frame/fork, so I should end up with around $175-200 in the parts I kept. The wheels came from an old Specialized Sequoia. They were hanging in my garage for a couple of years. I already had the rack, pump, fenders, bag and lights, so the only thing I really bought new was the saddle, canti brakes, cables, tires, etc.

FreddyV 01-18-11 03:08 PM

Very nice, Terry. Me being a roady, I just have to ask: What does it weigh?

Terry66 01-18-11 05:10 PM

As it sits in those pics, it weighs in at a whopping 32.6lbs. That is with the standard wheels and 70X32c tires. I have some A719 24mm wide wheels with 150 rear hub and a set of 700X40 cross tires. Then again when I have it set up for off-road, I'll remove the fenders and rear rack.

To put that in perspective, my HiFi full suspension 29er complete with Fox fork, rear suspension linkage and huge wheels/tires is only 29.2lbs.

Steel isn't light!

FreddyV 01-18-11 11:54 PM

It may not be really light, it's steel. Next to that it's not a racing bike, so weight is not of the utmost importance. I bet it makes an awesome commuter :)
