Can anyone out there tell me what these handlebars are (see image on Flickr link below)? They look a lot like the Nitto Promenade (which I love), but these accept bar end shifters which the Promenade will not do. I'm looking for handlebar reco's for a Surly Cross Check tweak I am contemplating, but I want to have a little forward lean....kind of a hybrid between the position the Albatross bars would put me in and what a straight bar would do. Not sure the bars in this picture would accomplish what I'm looking for though.
Here's my thoughts: - Surly CC stock components (56cm) - Add Brooks B.67 saddle - Add swept handlebars - Really want to be able to use the bar end shifters that come stock - Maybe a longer stem (120mm? 135mm?) would help me find that happy medium position? Thoughts? http://www.flickr.com/photos/41687350@N04/4558743113/ |
Oops...adding picture this time

In my second day of ownership, after the first day commuting on it. There are times I wish for a lower 1st gear. But I wasn't willing to spend the extra $330 for the 8-speed model. It is a blast, going back to a rear coaster brake. I never realized how accustomed I became to a freewheeling hub.

I picked up a set recently at a REI Scratch and dent and have not installed them on anything yet. Bought them mostly for the 9speed brifters and Brooks tape that were still on them but REAL curious to try them. |
This is just an old 1980's Norco Pinnacle converted for commuting. I'll post better pictures one day. I have a symilar bag on the back and one on the handlebars for my extra cothes when we get wierd weather here in Calgary, which is almost daily. I have ridden this one for 8 years now and only repaced BB, Chain, brake pads and tires. I commute in almost all types of weather except during the worst storms with it is dangerous. I have tried with and without fenders and I love them, anything that keeps the yucky road and pathway slop off me is good. I have a couple of Mountain equipment coop 1 watt lights up front and a planet bike flasher in the back. The fenders are from Planet Bike. I like this bike and will likely get another rigid mountain bike when this one dies.

I like them. I take my LHT on some fire road rides and it helps riding offroad with the shallow and flared drops. The top flats are a little bit on the narrow side if you like to ride that part of the bar. BTW, what brand of bar did you get?
I mostly ride on the hoods but I do get up in the top regularly. It looks about as wide at the hoods as my 44's on the one bike and the drops look wider then my 46's on the other. Little concerned if the hoods are going to feel funny turned sideways. http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...9&d=1272242733 |

WTB is the brand. Looks like they came off a damaged Raleigh Sojourn.

I found it interesting that even though First gear was a bit on the tall side, it was still pretty easy to get the bike moving, at least there in the flat parking lot. |
Hey what frame is this? Looks great!

Hey, thought I would post my commuter here. Not many commuters in Omaha, NE but we are slowly growing in number.
It is a GIANT Boulder bicycle with road tires. Stopping is a nightmare when going faster than 25kph. And yes that's a German flag. Also this is a HEAVY bicycle, tipping the scale at ~40lbs. http://www.aofw.co.uk/images/bicycle/bicycle.png Those black boxes rubber banded to the handlebars are speakers. I need something to listen to on my 45min commute to work each day and headphones are out of the question. http://www.aofw.co.uk/images/bicycle...ack-closed.png http://www.aofw.co.uk/images/bicycle/rear-rack-open.png |

Finally making decent time after getting rid of the steel MTB.
