I like it. But it doesn't look waterproof. Is she a fair weather rider?

No and no. I'm sure she could put the contents in a plastic bag and it'd be fine.

Nice Specialized commuter.

Underground 02-20-12 04:04 PM

Thanks! It works surprisingly well and rides smooth with the 35c tires on it. I may drop by B17 saddle on this one from my Langster.

Sweet! I have a few Schwinns from the "Tenax era" and they're great bikes.

I love it, very clever! It reminds me of a cool handmade felted wool bag that someone was showing off in C & V recently. I love how organic bags like this look compared to the typical modern plastic & cordura high-tech bikeshop stuff.

if your looking to run a titec h-bar and you have seperate shifters and brakes you will have to mount one or the other on the upper loop both of them wont fit on the lower with the grips installed. if you decide you want to try the titec out get it off pricepoint they are 39.98+shipping.i have shifters and brakes in one single unit and i still had to trim about 1/2" off my grips. the jones loop h-bar can accomadate both shifters and brakes as the rear grip area is longer but they are 120.00 which is why im trying the titec first. also with either i believe you will have to swap stems possibly, im not to sure on this. but i did have to lengthen my cables as they were to short hope it helps and goodluck so far mine are working great

Thanks for the tip! I placed the order. That is great price, with bar tape and shipping under $60. Nice. I have dual action Shimano XT levers and some Ergon grips laying around, so that should work out well.

Oddly enough, the riding is much less painful than standing and walking as long as I take it easy.

I pulled my Achilles tendon - or something - once, while walking and pushing my loaded bike up a very steep hill during a short tour. It took over a week to heal but, during that time it was painful when walking, but I barely felt anything when riding a bike so I was able to finish my tour without any difficulties!

This bike actually looks really good IMHO. I just have preference for flat bars, so it'd look even better with black stem and flat bars.

1950 Raleigh Sports

Picked the bike up on Thursday morning and have ridden it nearly 80 km already... added the rack, light, and pump last night to make it more utilitarian.

All right Sixty Fiver, do you actually keep track of how many bikes you own??? :D

My quick commuter when I can store it in my office. Also my long distance bike.

How are you liking the Avenir Panniers? I was about to pull the trigger on some myself but am torn between the sensible purchase and the expensive one (Ortlieb Back Roller Classic). Keep trying to convince myself that it's a sound investment but I'm about to be in major debt and strapped for cash (dental school).

Built this to race 'cross, but scheduling conflicts prevented participation this year. So I mounted fenders and bought a set of studded Hakkas so that I can use it as the backup 'muter/cat 6 race bike this winter. Hopefully I won't be working weekends next fall, so that I can get out and race the bike for real.

Badass! :thumb:

PS.
Sorry for spamming this thread, but I have few months worth of it to catch up on :D

As far as panniers go, you always get what you pay for. However, these are nice for smaller items. They are not water proof, but are made pretty decently out of canvas. I do notice that if I move my feet too far back on the pedals that I get some heel strike, but overall I really like them. They hold my Macbook Air with no problems and I just keep a waterproof stuff sack in them if it looks like I may be getting into some rain. So far they have well been worth the $30 for them.

One of the mechanics The Bike Depot has a grandmother that knitted a bunch of these. The look of it is just so awesome. I was riding around with it the other day and got a few compliments.

Sometimes it is hard to keep up as I rarely find myself looking for bikes but they seem to find me.

Was just given a complete, but disassembled Moulten Mk2 which I plan to customize and build up to resemble this... thi8s will be awhile as I have to do the frame mods and get it powder coated and build some new high performance wheels.

There is a Dawes Kingpin folder I inherited... figure this will be an all rounder with an SA 8 speed cassette / drum in the rear and was given the '72 Raleigh as a wedding present in September.

I should start a spreadsheet but think I was at 17 before all these bikes fell on me.

Here's my ride, Trek 7.5FX disc. I commute most days of the week plus weekend and grocery trips. Does really well.

You have a Moulton, too??!?! Ugh, you and your awesome bikes.

PHT 02-21-12 07:07 PM

Ha! I had my mom knit me a couple things like that....except they were sized to fit a water bottle and went on the handlebars.

I love the Schwinns from this era. I really need to finish my overhaul on my 1987 Le Tour.

Had my first commute on the Circuit today, pretty darn nice. Might take a while to get used to the downtube shifters, last time I used them was about 15yrs ago before I got into BMX and MTBs. Good thing this are indexed though!! When I got home I had to make some minor tuning to the front D, the big ring has a bit of wobble to it. All in all, I'm happy:thumb:

Dual PB turbo's! You should put them both on solid and use the blink mode as a turn signal. Of course, that's not practical.

I doubt anyone would pay attention to my turn signals :D
