Agreed. The Vaya is a killer looking bike, but it was the ride that sold me on it. My initial test ride was one of those moments of clarity that people sometimes have. I heard angels signing. The light bulb above my head lit up. The whole deal. Even with the notoriously hard riding Armadillo Infinity tires, the ride is still smooth and comfortable, yet lively enough to be lots of fun. It's an incredible bike.

That bike is much hotter here than it was on the road forum. :thumb:

Seriously, I was looking at this thread and my first thought was, "That is a really nice looking bike." Then I realized I had seen it before. Too much carbon on the road forum makes the mind go mushy.

I understand that I am working with dated aluminum frame and not even a high end one, but there is a reason I ride this bike second most, behind the carbon bike. ;) I can't hate on people for enjoying carbon, but you are right. I think people have lost a lot of respect for realistic bikes when they have race plastic on their mind.

So many bikes to admire here! OK, this is my Surly 1X1 I recently picked up on craigslist. I swapped out many of the parts with new ones or ones from my old bike. My favorite additions are the Brooks saddle and Salsa Woodchipper bars. A fun bike to build and even more fun to ride. My short 7 mile round-trip commute seems even shorter now!

My road bike that I now have a rear rack on so I can use it for commuting when I want to.

I have one, too. Check your seatpost often for cracks. Mine cracked the first or second year. Warranty replacement. But I want to get an aluminum one for safety.

New Trek fx 7.3 disk. Pic of it out on a nice last weekend with it. Need to swap out the bar and grips for something a little more comfortable that I can put some bar ends on.

Thanks, mine actually already cracked. I also had it replaced under warranty and they gave me a carbon wrapped aluminum post as a replacement.

I probably won't commute much on this 1995 Giant Allegre, but I thought I would share some shots I took this weekend.

If I had the money to do it I would steal your whole build and color idea. :D

Very beautiful bike. I am wondering why only one tire has a brand name patch, and why the one that I can see isnt lined up properly with the valve? ;)

Only partly kidding, if you have them lined up, not only does it look better, but it makes finding the small things in the tire that caused the puncture much easier.

I have gone on a weight reduction program (< 23 pounds as fitted) for those sunny, rain free, baggage free days.

If you want to know the answers these important questions you need to ask the guys at Blue's Bikes in Lincoln that put this bike together in 1994. =) I bought it last summer from a guy that barely used it after buying it to train for a triathlon and then it hung in the garage 25+ years. Its in amazing condition. I got everything re-greased and back together so ts been great to ride it last weekend. I'll switch out the tires at some point although they are in good condition and I have been trying to remember to line everything up with the label and tire pressure info. I need to ride it some more to decide how I want to set it up.

I'm going out and buy me an orange bike. I'll be back in an hour. : )

monsterpile 05-01-12 04:40 PM

I am kinda shocked I haven't bought an orange bike by now. I've wanted one for a while.

I grew up in Lincoln! Thanks for reminding me how beautiful my home town is ;-)
(Nice bike too!)

Cheers,
Chris
