You do some nice work, the attention to detail is second to none.

With some double digits, potholed roads, and some dirt between me and work I'll be taking my Kona on a few more commutes, it handles the urban assaults quite well with the Smart Sams I fitted as they roll out pretty nicely on pavement.

Just need a backpack and I'm good to go on days like this.

That is one sweet frickin ride.

Took this on the way home yesterday. Haven't changed anything since I posted it last year - except a new headlight.
Beginning to entertain new bar tape color options though, the current is getting kinda dirty finally.

I have an update, I no longer have the bike I had back in post #6015 , I dented the head tube in a winter accident leaving it "unfixable" according to the shop I took it to. I ended up getting another trek, an 720 if I remember right, and it was stolen shortly after. Now I have a black Huffy Stalker that I've affectionately named "Huffles" that I bought from the mother of a friend for $60. Does every thing I've asked of it and I have no complaints, Huffles is a good bike.

I took this picture this morning on my phone, right outside of where I work.

I find that the bar tape gets quite dirty in orange.

I fell a couple times in winter and after 2000 miles, it's done.

Interesting ride :D

Added a new front dynamo wheel (built by LIT in Portland with an SP PD-8 hub, and DT Swiss rim and spokes) and Vega headlight to my fixed gear commuter. This weekend's project is to install a new 47T chainring and much needed new BB, that I've had waiting for it for awhile.

I forgot that I'm communicating in US English ... that is an "interesting" ride, not in a German negative or a British subdued sarcasm way ... I like it (in American English):)

Haha it seemed like thought there was something quirky or weird about it!

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=446936Hello BikeForum folks, newbie here. Just finished this 3 speed build today. Super not fun build, well thats sort of a lie. Just nothing went to plan. And FYI sram tech support is just about the most useless customer service imaginable. And the sram 3 speed shifter is about the most useless shifter imaginable. Thankfully I was able to get it onto anything but straight bars. Grumble grumble grumble. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=446935

RubeRad 04-23-15 03:32 PM

Well the results look really nice! I don't see the shifter in the pics, did you not yet manage to get it onto your bullhorns?

thanks. it is indeed on there, sorry the pics are crap. in the first pic you can sort of see it beside the stem. It doesnt take up that much room on the bars. I had to bore out a lot of the shifter to fit it around the bend. I hope the 3 speed holds up for hauling heavy loads.

Every time I look at a profile shot I remember I want to angle the hoods up a few degrees. Then I ride it and forget because it fits pretty well (And I really don't like the modern trend of angling them way up, yuck)

Also, I think I finally found a saddle which is making me happy on 20+ mile rides... A super old Selle Italia Flite that was on the first road bike I purchased used. Looking at new ones online, since this one is rather tattered, and they appear to have changed the shape to more flat and less rounded. And my butt is extremely picky... Not sure if I'll ever win.

cali_axela 04-24-15 04:46 PM

That's my favorite saddle too! The new ones definitely are different. My favorite is a really tattered old suede feeling one.

Nice. While searching I figured out they came out with a "Flite 1990" version which is supposedly true to the original. In all black. Thinking about trying to find one of those. Also stumbled across some threads with guys talking about re-covering old saddles and that might be worth a shot.

This one is weird because I look at it, and it looks so uncomfortable, it's literally covered in huge, raised stitches and writing. But once I'm on it it's great. Even doing quite a bit in just boxers and normal shorts/jeans.

First post and a pic of my first bike. (Outside of bikes as a kid). I live in midtown Atlanta and have less than a 1 mile commute which is pretty flat. Just starting out simple and seeing how I like it.

This was a craiglist find for $80. A 1970's toyoco cruiser. Apparantly the guy had imported it or something as they don't sell these in the US I believe. Can't wait to start learning more and take this thing out! I also got a new in box Kryptonite 2 lock with chain for $25. Weird having a lock worth over 50% of the bike.

I just finished this for my wife. It's actually the first bike she ever bought for herself, 21 years ago. She'd ridden it totally into the ground. I did sort of a budget re-build, and it's on the road again! Currently it's 1x7, but when I get some matching bar tape I'll add a front derailleur (I have a few sitting around because I ride all my bikes "one by"). The tires are Little Big Bens that I ordered from Rivendell. I like how it looks with the green and brown color scheme. I'd like to put on a rack, but it's hard make one fit on such a little frame. Maybe a front rack?

The Sonik developed a bad creak near the bottom bracket that got progressively worse. I believe that one of the welds is bad and the thought of a possible frame failure while riding really messed with my head. Yes, that is on campus and it is the Red Cedar.

Early 90s-ish 24" Mt Shasta rigid mountain bike. I bought it used so I have no idea what's original. I added fenders, rack, slick tires, very tall stem, swept handlebars, dynamo and lights. Very comfortable!
