Broke a couple of spokes on the commuter last night... so I dug out the backup commuter (2000 Klein Quantum Race). I've had to use it a couple times over the course of this year when I've had mechanical issues... so I guess it officially qualifies as a commuter bike itself. Not necessarily a fun commuter-riding bike, but not bad every once in a while. Very fast... VERY stiff!!!

...not to mention, the paint scheme may burn out your retinas in just the right light. :-)

I commute on a bike like that always, just have it outfitted with a rack and trunk bag, and have clip-on fenders when needed.

Don't get me wrong, I love this bike! I've owned it for several years and it's a great road bike. I'm just saying it doesn't make a good commuter, for me, in its present configuration.

My wife got a new car this summer, so I decided that surely, I deserved a new bike! It took a while to get it all together, but i finally finished and installed the last (rear) fender today.

In addition to the frame, I used a number of V-O parts as well. The rims, bar-tape, saddle and stem are all V-O. The dynohub is a Shutter Precision sp-8 hooked up to B&M front and rear lights. The wheels are 650b with Grand Bois Hetre tires and a 2X8 drivetrain recycled from a previous build. The fenders are home-made (if that wasn't obvious) from layers of cherry veneer bent around a frame. Best of all, the S&S couplers allow me to disassemble the whole thing and pack it into an airline certified case for travel! It isn't the simplest thing to pack, but the fact that it *can* be packed is really great.

Finished my new steed this morning, and took it out for a beautiful 31 mile test ride with a couple of friends. I was crushed a few weeks ago when I spotted a crack on my other bikes top tube; I needed to find a frame that I could transfer all my parts over to, and the Surly fit the bill perfectly. So far, so good. I just need to re-install my front light, and run the wire to the rear and it'll be complete. Here's to lots of great miles!

It's an Air Zound (a rechargeable air horn)

New to me old Peugeot. Rides real nice and zippy. My first bike with indexed shifting. Swanky. Needs to be cleaned and regreased (and that dinky cable lock has got to be cut off) but it's in great shape.

Correct. It's extremely stable. Even when packed "lopsided" (i.e. heavy laptop in one side, lightweight stuff in the other), it handles predictably. Tubus definitely knows a thing or two about racks and low-riders.

That bike is ready for anything! And it has a horn and bell!

Long awaited wheel upgrade for my Cross Check came today (replacing a 7-year-old stock wheelset). I'm even excited about my new chain and lube. How big of a geek can I be?

I got me a set of those for my lht this summer. What hubs?

Yes, XT hubs. I also went with 36 spokes, up from the 32 spoke stock wheels. How's your wheelset working for you?

They have been great so far,I got them with the lx hubs. I solely commute and haul my son so I went with the 36 spokes as well. I think they are a bit heavier than my old wheels but it doesn't really bother me, I just stopped getting trophies on Strava for my commute.
