caribou22, that's really nice. Is that cylinder on your rear rack a speaker?

Thanks! No, it's a food thermos that I bolted to the rack to hold a tube, tools and a small cargo net.

love it!!!

That is noice! I think gumwall tires look really cool. And that is a very chubby crankarm for such a small chainring. But the bashguard looks cool.

Used a short piece of angle aluminum, and drilled four holes in it (two for connecting to the rack, two for the thermos). Drilled and caulked the holes in thermos and bolted it all together with SS nuts and bolts. With the loop on the lid, I can run piece of aircraft cable to lock together the saddle and lid with a U-lock. The lid can't be rotated off (I had the contents of a seat bag emptied once). The heavy black wire is the pic is 1/4 inch irrigation tubing that I use as conduit for the rear light wire.

Nope, just a gray circle with a line through it. Might be a work network protection thing. Where do you have them hosted?

It's weird, I often can't see posted pictures because of firewalls, but I specifically remember seeing WestMass's cool Surly and noting the username, but now I can't see the picture. (Maybe I saw it when I was at home without firewalls)

It’s a Rivendell Silver that chunky arm and it’s Q is why I pulled it off my Rock n Road, it’s pretty perfect here

Your setup looks great!

Is the frame too small for you? Looks like an XL might suit you better.

Why did you go for the Karate Monkey as opposed to an Ogre or Bridge Club?

My Schwinn commuter

This is the bike I commute on about half the time (I have a foldie I really like). It's an old Schwinn something or other. I built the 700c wheels with Sturmey Archer hubs; the rear is anRXL-RD5 5 speed, the front is an X-FD. Both are drum brakes. 44 tooth Sturmey Archer chainring. I've added a Dymotec bottle generator which I'm really happy with. Double leg kickstand so it stands up like a boss. I have a frame lock on the rear that's super convenient for quick runs into a cafe or whatever.

Soma Buena Vista frame, 1X9 setup Lauterwasser bars, VO saddle and an indispensable basket.

How long(or miles) do those wheels stay true? Just curious. I just built a bike with similar spoke count.

I switched to expensive chain lube after my last chain lasted just a bit over 1000 miles so I added a mud flap so I don’t wreck the new stuff (yes I know it’s silly, and yes I know if I had the flap before I sand blasted my chain with cow poop/sand/water it would have lasted longer but I need an excuse). I gave up on the 11-42 cassette I used ⅔ of in favor of an 11/32 that’s still missing some cogs I want. Anyway things are better now so I guess that justifies the 25$ a bottle chain lube and the $60 Ultegra cassette (let me live my fantasy).
