I wish I could remember, it was probably in the mid-to-late 90's, I can't remember if it was while I was passing through Charlotte where a friend of mine worked for a bank, or if I was passing through the research triangle because my wife had gone to Duke.

Is there really a bike called the "Huffy Mullet" or did you just add a decal?

Looks like you've made quite a bike out of a humble starting point. Did you have to drill to get caliper brakes instead of the original cantis?

It's a Huffy Thunder Ridge mountain bike. It started out like this..........

The "Mullet" sticker was added. It's my nickname because of my hairdo ;)

I have the same sticker on my beater bike I use around the shop which has the old components from the huffy befor the conversion..........

It used to be a girl's bike..........

FYI another thread recently had a bike with a repositioned top tube...

Good job. I think you stayed very true to the Huffy spirit!

It is really a nice bike. Keep the shiny side up. :-)

I've ridden drop bar bikes with rear racks for years of commuting. Picked up, and modified, this KHS recently and have been having a blast. Go a bit slower, worry about scratches and theft less, but I didn't put a rack on until yesterday. My first front rack.

Love the ballons! Hey, what's that hiding behind the rear hub? Cause it almost looks like part of the bike.

Looks like a helmet used as a kick-stand!

Clever!

Yup, my trusty giro savant helmet. And i kind of put the balloon tires on as a joke, so my bike would be instantly recognizable (minor bike theft is on the rise here, but they are mostly unintelligent drug users who would try to sell it back to you) but i ended up loving the ride. So much cushion, very stable, and still capable on the road. I was averaging 18mph on the part of that ride with no stops for a few miles, which isn't much slower than my normal speed on the drop bar bike with skinnier tires.

that said, get some bar end on those things before you take a core sample of somebody.

edit: oh, and how do you like those Nanos? Been eyeballing them for the TCX

Yeah I still need to get the bars wrapped!!! I'm always worried I am going to impale some poor soul!

I have a single Nano on the front and a Specialized Fat Boy on the back. I am torn as to which tire I like more. I will say that the Nano has been AMAZING as far as handling, grip and control on and off the pavement. I would highly recommend those tires!

Ta!

Flatted on my (wet) day to work. Switched over to Schwalbe Marathon afterwards, no flat since.

Let the soul dangle.. simply cruising around without any direction, just finding new roads.
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=440440

Right after I had build the bike. Missing the lights and rack.

I got the 'bent out St Patrick's day, it was a little chilly but still sunny and clear.

I love this bike.

Also used my Kona on the weekend to go to and fro, riding light and appreciating how well it handles these beat up roads.

Now we have another 8-10 inches of snow on the ground... it was nice while it lasted.

Ha, correct. Braking is fine. My commute is pretty flat, so it's not much of an issue.

Thanks!

I've been buying frames and parts for years but finally broke down and bought my first "new" bike since 1994 - 2014 Fairdale Weekender Drop. After about a month of daily commutes this is configuration number 3 and though I hate the way the stem extender looks it works for my 50+ neck. If you're not familiar with Fairdale (and I wasn't either) it's a pretty cool company out of Austin. I'm loving this - looking forward to touring on it if the weather ever gets warm.

Yesterday, I installed Vittoria Voyager Hyper tires, rated at 37mm, measured at 35mm. They're huge, but they seem fast, and they're comfy.

I am also running 700cx35 tires on my commuter and really like the ride. Almost as comfy as my 26" MTB tires. Of course these are 35MM tires on 25mm rims. No problems with a ittle over 200 miles on them so far........

It looks like spring has sprung in a lot of places... nice to see folks busting out the nicer rides.

Will still be rolling on snow tyres until later in the week here.

:D
