After about a month of daily commutes this is configuration number 3 and though I hate the way the stem extender looks it works for my 50+ neck. If you're not familiar with Fairdale (and I wasn't either) it's a pretty cool company out of Austin. I'm loving this - looking forward to touring on it if the weather ever gets warm.

Wow, I can dig it. I went to the Fairdale web site and they make some great bikes.
Thanks for sharing this with us.

New for 2015 are the rack and trunk bag.
I grew weary of the backpack.

I let my wife try Citibike. I had no idea she would love it so much. She signed up immediately and is impatiently awaiting her key.

Nice E46 M3 in the pic, I love those cars. :)

Isn't that Bianchi in danger of someone renting it? Or does the lock stay keyed to a credit card or something?

If the latter, that's an intriguing idea. If bike-friendly businesses installed locking bike racks, and key in and out with your credit card. Charge a dollar for convenient, secure locking - I'd pay it.

It was just a joke, wphamilton. I docked the bike, snapped a photo, and resumed the remainder of my journey.

Clever idea, but it would have to be as convenient as these docking stations but somehow it would need to lock the frame and both wheels.

I wonder how much those stations cost?

A lot, I'm sure.

The Metro stations around here used to have racks that had two pieces that scissored up after you put your bike in a track. The two sides had rods that went through your frame and both wheels, then you would put your U lock through the whole thing. It allowed you to lock both wheels and the frame with just one lock. No idea how effective they actually were;I saw many of them broken,so I don't know if bikes were taken or if they just weren't maintained properly.

Of course, there's always bike lockers, which most of the stations have now. Better idea since you can leave things like helmets and accessories on the bike, and none of it can be seen without breaking into the locker.

Well at least if somebody steals your bianchi track fixie, you might be able to get the city to help track them by their credit card!

I like the station-less DB system much better.

Front disk and rear canti's? I don't think I've ever seen that before.

WestMass 03-27-15 11:52 AM

I "upgraded" my carbon fork that came on this bike to a CroMo steel Kona Project 2 fork for the disc tabs and the rack mounts. I also upgraded the core rear canti with some Avid Shorty Ultimates.

I'm still really digging this bike. Looks like a perfect commuter. Do you carry any flat repair stuff on you? And just being a californian this looks inhospitably cold and wet, lol. Though we could use a solid spring of wetness right now or we're in for some painful stuff.

Thanks! It is a great commuter for nasty weather. If the roads are dry and the weather forecast is clear, then I take out one of the 'nice' bikes :)

Don't carry a repair kit- if I have a puncture (knock on wood), the NYC subway system will rescue me :twitchy:

As long as the river isn't frozen, it isn't that cold
