Fair enough. Either way, (cheap) colored 1/8" chain would never work with the cassette he's working with on that Giant.

PatrickGSR94 04-14-15 08:30 AM

Yeah see, $85-$160 for a colored 10/11-sp chain, vs. about $45 for the gold Ti-coated KMC 10-sp chain I run on my road/commuter bike. There are much better and more cost-effective ways to bring color to your bike.

*edit* wow the prices are astronomic on that FWB site. Amazon has this black/red 10-sp chain for $73, still way more than I would pay for a chain, though. http://www.amazon.com/KMC-X10SL-DLC-...ords=kmc+x11sl

noglider 04-14-15 08:45 AM

And it's only a matter of minutes before any chain turns black.

Haha yeah, FWB is a boutique bike shop, they have a lot of really nice high end components, but they don't mark down their prices at all. It's a fun site to look at, but I've never purchased anything from there.

This is my main commuter at the beginning of the spring. It's a '13 Surly Crosscheck. I have it set up 1x8, with a Surly stainless steel 38T chainring on the front. The tires are Schwalbe Marathon, 32 mm. The pad on the top tube is fake leather bar tape. I just changed the front brake housing, and didn't have any brown bar tape left, so I put on the green. For now I kind of like the two-tone look!

Useful, but also good for denting tubes and scratching paint, at least that type...

Great idea - would help me remember left from right!

Shot this yesterday on the MUP heading into work. Yes, I commute on that bike. No, there are no fenders or racks or panniers nor can they be mounted. Yes, I am ok with that. Yes, I would get wet if I rode it in the rain. No, I don't ride it in the rain. Yes, it is comfortable.

I labeled my headlights Port and Starboard so I can mount them the same way every time.

I commuted for a year without panniers, rack or fenders and my bike was (or is) nowhere near as pretty as yours. And f*** me I got wet a lot.

noglider 04-15-15 02:49 PM

That's really nice, TroN0074.

Get a rain bike! Now that I have one, I could never go back to being without one. With the right gear (by which I mean both bike and clothes), commuting in quote-unquote bad weather is actually wonderful (the gear transforms the experience such that the weather ceases to be "bad"- just wet), and something I enjoy a lot.

I got a little weird with:http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=445332

With the mini-tail tool-box and stem cowling I guess you could call it "aero-fredly"

You can't tell from the sorry photo but it's covered with fake CF vinyl. Maybe this one:

Go ahead and make fun of it, except for the hood cover. I'm sensitive about my brifters.

TroN0074 04-15-15 07:55 PM

@noglider, @takenreasy Thank you. Seem all the pictures from this thread has inspired me.

RubeRad 04-15-15 08:08 PM

wphamilton, what's up with that seat? It is obviously light, is it also comfy?

Sixty Fiver 04-15-15 10:38 PM

Commuting a little more regularly now as I took a part time position building bicycles and teaching at the co-op, decided to re-gear my Kuwahara this morning and had enough spares in the tickle trunk to build it back up to an early 80's spec.

Just had to pick up some new Contintental Tour Guards and think I will be ready for the road and some gravel... they run a bit narrower than stated so these 28's are more like 25's and they roll fast and ride really well but part of that could be the bike which has a really nice frame and fork.

I have one. Same color, sans the red wheels and red graphics. Has 4 wheels, a loud exhaust, and 420hp. :)

I was trying to get the commuter under 22 pounds with lights and fenders, which is a fail after stuffing the mini-tailbox with tools. It's this one Spyder Bike Saddle, 168g, Carbon Print which my wife bought after I left it in the Amazon cart. (Don't over-use that trick if it works for you!). I also ordered a cheaper knock-off from China but this is better.

It takes some getting used to but after a while I forget that it's there, like any saddle. I have an unusual tolerance for different saddles though.

Hi everyone! FabioTux from Brazil, here!
This is my first post!
FINALLY!!!

I would like to introduce you my bicycle, a steel handmade frame made by Igor Miyamura, a framebuilder from Brazil.
Her name is Lúthien TinúvieL (yes, I am a big fan of Tolkien's Middle-Earth Mythology)

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=445420
Photo taken at "Praça da Sé", the ground zero of São Paulo.

I've equipped this bike with 700c Wheels with Panaracer 700x32 tires, Linus North Road Handlebars, IGH Shimano Nexus 8v with Coaster Brake, Brooks Flyer Saddle and Dynamo-Hub Shimano HB-NX32.

Good for commuting, even though of a little bit of drag of the Dynamo-Hub.
My longest ride on it was 72km. It was fun, but a little bit tough, compared with my 29er...

I just bought a front rack and I intent to install a wooden box on it.

Photo taken at home...the painting was made by my little daughter, Julia.

See ya!
