Thanks chipcom, I thought it was probably something along those lines. The fact that it's a Carradice is probably why I didn't recognize it. I won't even let myself look at the Carradice stuff right now.

Here's my commuter bike.
No panniers or anything because I keep supplies at work and my messenger bag holds anything I need to bring along.

When in the reply box look at the icons at the top. The one with a moon over a mountain allows you to insert a link to an image on another site such as photobucket.

It's a DiamondBack Override that I picked up used at the end of June this year. Anyone know anything about this frame? I don't know how old it is, and my research hasn't turned up anything. It's the first bike I've owned in about 6 years, since my old road bike was stolen.

I've been riding it to work everyday since August, and I've put about 2500 km on it since I got it. I added the fenders, lights, reflective tape, new brake pads when the old ones wore out, a computer, and I put on snow tires at the beginning of December. Otherwise it's the same as when I got it, and I haven't had to replace any of the real components. I'm pretty happy with it, even if it does have the ugliest paint ever. Which is fine really, since it makes it less attractive for thieves, right? At least it's not pink. I suppose if it survives the winter I'll strip it and paint it a different colour.

Yesterday's project was making a new light for it from an MR16 12V 20W bulb, based on this (although apparently Home Depot in Canada does not carry the same stuff as Home Depot in the US so I had to modify it quite a bit). The blue thing strapped down in front of the rack is a bag holding my pack of rechargeable batteries. The LED light that I bought in the fall just wasn't cutting it for riding home in the dark at night. The snow and ice we got last week convinced me that I needed a better light asap. Having a new light to play with may even convince me to get up and go to work early tomorrow. :D

Wow! How do you like it? My commuter (now bad weather commuter) set up is very similar and it's working out great! It's a 1999 Hardrock Comp FS I picked up on Claigslist Chicago. I really am impressed with the tires. Inexpensive and bombproof so far. Good traction in the rain tonight. I was going to call her Floyd since it's the Phonak colors since I changed out the suspension fork but I've held back due to the doping thing.

Loving the bike thus far. A little heavy, but so is every full-featured commuter.

I'm thinking of going single-chainring, to cut down on a bit of heft, as I'll never use this bike for anything but commuting.

I must admit, the Transworld City's are the best thing since sliced bread. Reflective sidewalls = wonderful. Haven't tried them in anything but a light drizzle, but i'll give them a test run in the approaching snow. If they don't work out, it's back to the knobbies.

Nice ride. Am I confusing you with someone else, or were you pretty close to picking up a Cannondale Sport? What changed your mind?

Good memory. I didn't even remember that. When I tried one out, the ride was a little rougher than I liked. That was the main reason.

jimmuter, I've been riding the R500 Sport for three years now. I've put thousands of miles on it and never understood why it wasn't more popular with the commuting/touring crowd, so it always sticks in my memory when someone mentions purchasing or considering purchasing one. My only complaint is that mine doesn't have rear rack eyelets on the seat stays---a pretty glaring omission considering the intended market. I bought some attachment that hooks up the rack to the seatpost---doesn't look so elegant, but works fine. I hear they added the eyelets in later models. Anyhow, I too love those hubs. Happy rides!

Believe me, I liked the R500. I just realized that I really had my heart set on the Tricross. It's funny because the Tricross has eyelets on the seatstays but I don't use them as you may be able to tell. The rack I have mounts to the brake bosses. Of course if you mean you don't have any lower eyelets for the rear rack, that would be an annoyance.

My bike doesn't have it's bags on, which is a Topeak bag with extendable Panniers, that hold 1500 cubic inches. Enough for me.

Nice bike. I came really close to buying a Transfer just because it's so darn useful looking. I couldn't justify it with my current bikes, but I do love the looks of it. Kudos to anyone who builds a bike specifically for commuting.
