That's it. I no longer commute to work. I'll either "mountain bike" to work, "road race" to work, or maybe play tiddlywinks to work. If I'm just running errands, then I'll say for example that I'm hunting pheasant to the grocery store, or gardening to the library.

I'm not sure why I'm participating in this thread. But I am, and it's not about semantics. At least the reply below is on topic, I hope....
Commuting really implies regularity -- and is understood by most to entail a destination of work or, for some, study. I ride into chruch for evening deacon's meetings and choir rehearsal, but drive my boys in on Suday morning. (it's 7.4 miles away)
I think this kind of regular weekly ride to a civic or religious responsibility could also be considered commuting. Errands and shopping fit well under utility cycling, so why call them commuting?
