while spitting makes me laugh, I prefer to slap.
They say I punched their car, I say I was signaling a left turn.
See how much they really want to push their luck with the law.

Sadly, no. They were local all the way. The daughter likely went to Hawaii Pacific University here on Oahu, as 'HER' SUV had a HPU decal on it.
That was a fun ride that I definitely remember. Especially, the cheerleaders.
Since then, most drivers have continued to be courteous, many even giving more room when passing. But the 1 precentors (the 0.1 to 1% of drivers that choose to hate and act aggressive towards cyclist) have gotten much more aggressive in the last year.
It also seems most drivers have gotten use to bicycle blinkies at night and are now way to comfortable passing close to cyclist at night. I do not believe they realize just how close they are passing. No ill intent by the motorist, but still not cool.
As with everywhere, cell phones are the biggest problems now.

They did? From what I can gather, after a 30-40 minute time penalty the driver wasn't issued a traffic citation and the officer let him off with a verbal warning. Somehow I have a hard time believing that there was any deep philosophical conversation about the legal ramifications of endangering cyclists following this encounter. More likely, the driver (and rest of the family) have a similar feeling of "victory" that the OP does since they didn't receive any punishment, with the exception of a minor delay.
I interpreted it also as being schooled, since dad called the cops, in order to "school" CB HI. Instead of driving away with the satisfaction of knowing CB HI was owned with a citation, he himself drove off, tail between the legs, with nothing to show for the experience but injured pride--and in front of his family no less.

I get buzzed from time to time. I totally understand your road rage. I usually don't get to catch the cars that pass me to close. I have to just take a breath and let it roll off my back.
I'm not saying you where wrong for being angry but in this day and age we all have to be careful. Road rage is a serious issue. I don't want anyone one this forum to get hurt in a road rage incident. Being hit, yelled at, honked at, and despised is just part of sharing the road with vehicles.
I guess what I'm saying is I don't want to hear about any of us getting shot or beaten to death because we spit on or hit a car that drove too close to us.
Be safe out there!

Tailgating + Honking + < 1 foot pass = "harassment"
In Hawaii, honking at someone you do not know, is considered as rude as spitting. Completely different from Conneticut, where it is a courtesy.
In Hawaii, there is NO law that includes the words spit, spitting, spat. So, although spitting on a person would be included in assault, spitting on an object is not criminal. The worst the cops could try, would be disorderly conduct and that would be a stretch.
That is why it works. If I lived in south LA, I would not use this tactic. But in Hawaii, realistically, only cops can carry concealed or even travel with a loaded gun.
Yes it is low class, but not nearly as low class as intentionally endangering someone with a deadly weapon.
I do not recommend spitting to anyone who is not ready to get into it. Yes, I did come across a guy, like you, a couple years ago (in his late 20s, and pretty well built). He intentionally ran me out of my lane. After he saw me spit on his car, he slammed on his brakes and got out. When I looked down to get my cell phone, he sucker punched me. I set my bike on the ground as he backed up and I took a defensive fighting stance. He charged me and I kicked him in the thigh, followed by a hard left hook and a weak right hook (because the left hook knocked him back so far, it was hard to connect the right hook). I returned to a defensive stance, as he began to yell “stay away from me, leave me alone, don’t come near me”. He then ran to his car and sped off. What a “bully coward”. I was 53 at the time.
I wonder, do you harass cyclist?
Especially since he still had to clean the spit off the SUV.

It was a very nice day out, especially after all the rain we have had, so it was sort of nice being outside rather than heading home for the time. Plus, it really was fun watching dad and daughter get themselves all twisted in knots. It took everything I had, to not bust out laughing at the daughter doing her "I am tough, gang sway". The gangs in Hawaii, are all pretend gangs anyway.

I can think of 1001 ways I'd rather spend a sunny afternoon (in Hawaii!) than arguing a bunch of he-said-she-said on the side of a road.

Well, the next thing on the "to do list" after the commute home, was replace the flush lever on the toilet. Is that one of the 1001 things you had in mind Roody? Delaying that for 30 minutes was not even a minor hardship to me.

I have been trying to figure out how to carry a spray that LATER will say "I can't drive" or "Share the road" by eating through the car paint. I can come up with lots of things to put on a car, but nothing that gives deniability.
If anyone has ridden around Alhambra / Pasadena, you will understand why it would also take gallons of the stuff!
Too bad you can't shoot snot rockets on the car instead.

My advice--keep all of your bodily fluids to yourself. As George Costanza always ranted, "We're living in a society here! There are rules!"

I am more than willing to keep my spit off the JAMs cars, as soon as the JAMs are willing to take greater care in NOT spilling my blood on the road!

It sounds like a really lame time to me, frankly. I don't like watching people "get themselves all twisted in knots" -- it's ugly and unpleasant.

Um...really? That's your idea of a good time? Of a better time than, say, riding where you want and doing what you want? Really?

"Tailgating?" You're on a bicycle. Everything is faster than you. Tailgating? How long was he there?
"Honking" Again, maybe not a courtesy, but then again..."harassment?"
"<1 foot" From what, the end of your handlebar? How fast? Since he was just "tailgating" you, he couldn't have really had a fast approach.
Ignorance I can easily believe, but concluding "harassment" and retaliating with a lugie requires a leap of judgmentalism on your part, not to mention a spring-loaded desire to be offended. Your from Hawaii, for cripes sake. Mellow out.

You seem to be one of those folks who keep on playing, "But HE started it!" or, "But HE did something worse than I did!" well into adulthood. Don't take that as an especially harsh criticism -- a lot of folks do that, you're hardly alone in that. I think, though, that it's worth considering whether you might get more enjoyment out of not playing. While you're at it, you might also consider whether you really play that central a role in the lives of the drivers you encounter. There's no disputing that the people you encountered acted like jackdonkeys; on the other hand, your phrasing above ("people who would harass and endanger others for simply and legally using our roadways") makes it sound like you think they got up in the morning and said, "Hey, let's go find some cyclists who are legally using the roadways and harass them for no other reason at all!". When you encounter jerks, you encounter jerk behavior, simple as that -- it's not some kind of targeted persecution because you're on a bicycle. You can either get into a lengthy urinating match with every jerk you meet, or you can shake it off and go on your way. Your choice.
