napalm-bazooka with baby-seeking phosphorous grenades FTW!!!!

after living in England for a while, I gave up on my initial opinion of gun ownership being a good idea... they are so starved for murderous violence there that they include BB-guns in their gun crime stat numbers just to look tough. :)

I guess you are more likely to get stabbed in the ***** by some chavs wearing burberry tracksuits though, so it goes both ways.

You really have mook issues.

I've actually faced people shooting at me...and I'd choose the mook with a pistol every time. So let's hear it from all you 'scholars' who have never seen a shot fired in anger.

That's sort of like asking, "Would you rather have a 500 pound boulder dangled over your head by a frayed rope, or a handgun dangled over your head by a frayed rope?"

I've never had anyone shoot at me, but I've seen enough episodes of the A-Team to know you're absolutely right.

Please be prepared to back your choice up by being glued to the pavement with me behind either the wheel or the trigger.

Personally, I'd have a hard time hitting anything from 50 yards but just for the sake of argument would you be gluing his shoes to the pavement or his actual feet?

I'd like to know if he's equally as inept at operating glue as he is a car or a gun? I'll be he is....

And we have our Fred........ (laughter, applause). Chipcom: I actually like guys like you, you make it so easy.

So, this is why the Russian military is in such disarray, all of their cars are broken down. LOL.

People who bring up Columbine H.S. rarely make mention of the rather large propane BOMBS that Klebold and Harris dropped in the cafeteria without being noticed. If their detonators had worked their would've been HUNDREDS of deaths, not a mere thirteen. In fact, had they not been armed, there's a very real chance they may have recovered their bombs and tried again.

Guns can kill people, but not as many as barbecue fuel.

It’s been a fun run on the first gun thread of 2009. If history repeats itself you may expect 2 or 3 more before the year-end close out. Here are a few observations if interested:

- The thread subject is carrying while riding your bike, not your 2nd amendment rights. Please separate the two debates.

- Those that think that carrying while riding is an incredibly dumb idea are not attempting to infringe upon your precious right to own a firearm. Please separate the two debates.

- The louder you bluster about off-ing some a-hole who messes with you, the more apparent it is you have no knowledge of firearms, nor a realistic picture of the mindset required to take a life. (noted exceptions to the current and former law enforcement posters).

- If my law enforcement friends are telling me the truth, it doesn’t matter how strong you are or how big your dilly is; if unprepared and untrained, having a gun in an altercation will likely be used against you. If you’re lucky you’ll just end up with soiled underpants.

- Having a gun in your home and/or carrying to protect you and your family is ‘entirely’ different from carrying while riding your bike – If your environment is moving at 15 mph. you have even less time to assess the situation and determine if discharging a firearm is necessary or legal.

I propose we have a large “Bicycle Paintball” game. After 5 or 6 hours of riding around, exhausted with nobody getting hit, we can move on to more pertinent issues…
like what kind of bike would Rambo ride and what would be his weapon of choice if glued to the pavement and had 10 seconds before the truck was going to hit him…….
Depends...What kind of glue was that?. :D

That's the point...most people can't hit what they are shooting at, even at less than 50 ft.

As to your second question...I'm thinking maybe I'd just glue his actual feet, so being the big blue meanie I am, I could just leave him there...for the mooks.

I like a canuck who can get creative. Think of the fun we could have together with a couple of cans of Right Guard and a couple of cigarette lighters. :D

post number 191 in this silly thread. Yay.

mjw16 02-06-09 02:59 PM

We're setting records here, yay! Seriously though, at least some are actually thinking about this topic. Also, I'm getting ready to go for a short drive, I'll let you know how well I grouped 'em.

Perhaps, but my grandma, blind in one eye and almost blind in the other, with really bad arthritis, and only one arm and that one only has two fingers and shakes a lot, is a better shot than Imperial troops.

I believe our military is better trained.

"Only imperial stormtroopers are this accurate!" -Alec Guinness

Plus, in the same movie, their armour is proven to be inadequate protection against a piece of firewood in the hands of Princess Leia. I mean, I know she really makes it work for some people, but seriously, it was a stick.

Yeah, most people tend to think that firing a gun is easy and that if they needed to, they could hit something, especially if the random guy in the movie can pick one up and do the same.

No one realizes that it actually takes practice to be proficient with a weapon (in this case a firearm), and that it's generally hard to hit anything at more than 10 feet if you don't practice regularly. Then throw in nerves or any number of other things that are out of the ordinary, it would be damn near impossible for the average person to hit anything at all.

A lot of people don't even know how to correctly operate a firearm.

I guess I'm not as rabid a lover of guns, nor do I rely on the macho imagry to bolster my ego as I'm: 6' 2", 260 pounds, an ex wrestler/football player/boxer, with a 400+ pound bench, 1800+ pound leg press, and am, likely, in the best shape of my life at 38. LOL! Talk about macho bull! Now we're in the realm of the "internet lift", as they said on MFW. Hilarious. Sounds like you're just some fat guy. Real men squat, anyway.

Couple of things----you're dealing with cops in Minnesota, a notoriously liberal state, and likely Minneapolis, the San Francisco of the Midwest. Go ask a cop in a red state their opinion of civilians carrying firearms and you'll get a different answer. And I'm telling you this as the son of a Louisiana State Trooper.

There are always the people when carrying a weapon is discussed who put forth the idea that someone's going to use the weapon(pepper spray, firearm, etc) WHILE MOVING. Of course NOT! The weapon is to be used when someone approaches on foot and there is no avenue for escape. Don't know why you folks don't get that.

I've been shooting since I was 5. I've shot IPSC. I'm a veteran. I train with my firearm. I practice drawing from concealment. I practice drawing from my bicycle fanny pack. I've even taken my bike to the range and practiced drawing while straddling the bike. To top that, I've even done so after getting my heart rate up. I know what I'm doing. I know it's difficult for paternalistic liberals to imagine someone besides the all mighty cops(who have a notorious habit of emptying their weapons at suspects) might be proficient in the use of a firearm, but some of us are.

You forgot to say how much you can bench press while drawing your gun.

I could draw my gun here...but they'd ban me for posting inappropriate pictures.

Besides, sometimes it spits at me before I get it out of my pants...I hate when that happens.

Oh!!… well….“Minnesota cops”!!! ……(slaps forehead)…. THAT explains it. What the HELL was I thinking!
I do so enjoy your over generalizations. Not sure if it’s troll bait or just simply what one may expect out of “Redneck Hell, Florida.”
At any rate, since you repeatedly insist you know what you're doing, there is no doubt in my mind you have the capacity and willingness to shoot anything that moves. Goodluck with practicing drawing your gun out of your bike fanny pack. I’m sure that must be a very useful and comforting exercise for you.
I wish you well.

Incidentally, the “all mighty cops” do not generally make a habit of “emptying their weapons at suspects”. Up here us paternalistic liberals tend to insist the poor fellow slide from the "suspect" category into the more altruistic "homeless person who litters" category before emptying a clip into his ass.
Or is that the way things work in “Redneck Hell Florida”? You might consider moving.

Why don't you ask the black guy in NYC who was shot at 51 times by NYPD because they thought his cell phone was a gun? Or how about the guy in Oakland who was shot while on the ground? Police fire their weapons more now that they have been issued pistols instead of revolvers(do you know the difference?). It's a fact.

DC appears to be the worst, though:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv...lice1page1.htm

BTW, it's not a "clip". It's a magazine. Clips are used in the M1 Garand rifle, or to load cartridges into a rifle magazine. You might want to get your terminology straight if you wish to discuss matters about which you are clearly uninformed.

As to the "you forgot to mention how much you bench press..." comment another poster made---it's not quite the same as the Ronnie Coleman wannabe, now is it? I carry a firearm. The responsible thing to do is practice with it. That's what everybody's beef is, right? "Untrained, unskilled...." and all that jazz. Well, I'm trained AND skilled.

But, I forgot. The bicycling community is filled with idealists and middle-class white people who live safely in suburbs or gentrified urban areas and believe nothing bad can ever happen. When something does, like the gentleman in Minnesota who was beaten to death, the blame shifts to the victim. "Well, he was buying drugs...", or, "He shouldn't have been there...". Anything to justify their ill-informed and naive world views.
