They're Baaaack!!!
Just got an email from Mirrycle - road mirrors are back!
https://www.mirrycle.com/mirrorroadmirrycle.htm

I own three of the recalled ones from last year, they are awesome! I can't see how these are functionally any different, so they will be great too.

I have one of those, but the stupid thing was coming unscrewed all the time. We had to put electrical tape on the threads to keep it from backing off. I had no idea it was recalled!

I emailed them to see if they were interested in letting me exchange my old ones for new ones - if not, I will continue to enjoy my boot leg mirrors.

I'm just too wide to see around myself with HB mounted mirrors.
I'll just stick to mounting the helmet mirror.

Fifteen bucks, super save shipping eligible at Amazon - what a deal!
I let my bike tip over yesterday, my Mirrycle road mirror sacrificed itself in the fall. Found this great deal at amazon.

My bike blew over at a porta-potty stop on a windy ride, but the mirror folded-in just fine and survived.
After having had them for a few weeks, (one on the left side of each bike) I'm happy enough with them that I expect to always have them on my bikes. They're not quite perfect though. I'd like to see a couple of changes:
Even so, I like them much better than I thought I would.
In just the few weeks I've had them my commute has become much more mellow.
After having had them for a few weeks, (one on the left side of each bike) I'm happy enough with them that I expect to always have them on my bikes. They're not quite perfect though. I'd like to see a couple of changes:
- It doesn't stick out quite far enough. Angled so I can see a good distance behind me (a opposed to just whats beside me), my arm blocks about half the image. A half to three-quarters of a inch is all that's needed.
- There must be some way to engineer the "elbow" so that it doesn't move over bumps, but still moves when you knock it or the bike falls over. I can't seem to find a happy medium between sloppy-floppy and locked-in-place. The best I've found still requires me to re-adjust the mirror several times in a 20-mile ride.
Even so, I like them much better than I thought I would.
- The mounting is just great.
- The position is perfect--I like it off the end of the STI like that.
- It's completely out of the way when riding
- The image is much more stable than that of the velcro mirrors with the rubbery arm (although it's still subject to shaking over bumps).
In just the few weeks I've had them my commute has become much more mellow.

I haven't had any issues with keeping it where I want it. I hope this isn't a function of the pre-recall models allowing better tightening versus the 2nd generation.
