First off, I'm a coffee nut.

Based on a post here from a guy who lives locally I briefly met I just bought and installed an OR8 coffee mug holder. Went to the local coffee shop on base here and bought a mug that fits perfect.

Okinawa Japan has some remarkable little coffee shops off the beaten path and every single time I find a new one I always think briefly about stopping to get a cup of coffee to try it out but I always figure that I'll be off the bike so long I won't want to finish my ride.

Anyway this is a perfect and very elegant solution. It's not so much that I want coffee on every ride, it's that I'm now free to stop and grab a cup of something new if the desire to do so hits me.

This thing is so cool I just slapped it on my Dahon Speed TR folding bike and just ordered another one off ebay for my road bike.

Next you'll be wanting a hub generator and some kind of piezoelectric heating element so you can brew it while you pedal.

Check the specs on the Dahon Speed TR. It has a hub generator.

Your coffee warmer idea has merit.

I've actually thought of this, but you can only draw around 10W from a dyno. Might do a good job of keeping it warm though

This is the best coffee thermos for any active person.
I'll put coffee in it at 6:30am and by noon it's still hot.
On the bike, if it wasn't too hot to drink, it can be done one-handed.
And it fits great in any normal water bottle cage.

Time ruins coffee no matter what you put it in or how warm you keep it.

I drink coffee all the time and had to add cross top brake levers on my drop bars. Or you can find coffee chewing gum, lol.

Very nice OP! And it looks like with the mug out, that the holder wouldn't interfere with the fold. Is this true?

Nightdiver....on the Speed TR the handlebars fold outboard and to the right so the coffee cup sits to the outside. No problem with the fold.

Backpack Thermos measured

I picked up a cheap Ikea vacuum sealing thermos for $9, wrapped some extra grip tape i had around it, and it fits perfectly into my standard water bottle cage.

Bottle cage? Just ride no-hands through the traffic with your hot coffee!

I used to do that at UC Davis in the early 80's. I'd pick up a cuppa at the Coffee House and head over to the Phy/Geo building, which entailed going through a big traffic circle in front of Chem 194. I'd head into the traffic circle with my coffee in my hand, riding no-hands, and watch the freshmen just scatter out of the way. 270 degrees through the roundabout, and on my way!

I've been using that Nissan thermos for over a year. It is the best solution I've seen.

I use the Thermos Nissan Backpack Bottle (JMW500) with a Topeak Modula Cage EX. They are both excellent products.

I used to commute to work from Uruma (used to be Ishikawa) to Camp Hansen using Highways 6 and 329. Beautiful ride around the edge of Kin Bay twice a day.

For me coffee and coffee breaks are meditative, like having a cigarette. If I want caffeine for my ride I pop a NoDoze. The riding is rough hardcore bumpy stuff. I spit on my water bottle nipple to clean it and grab a sip of water or Gatorade when I can. I'm biking, I'm going somewhere, I'm working hard, I couldn't be further from a cup of coffee than I am when I'm biking. But more power to you!

I don't drink it while riding.
Mine is just along for the ride so I have decent coffee when I get to work for after I shower and then chill while reading email.
The coffee at work tastes like arse.

You lucky devil. Riding around Kin Bay twice a day would be nice. I like 329 going in that direction as well, although I usually take 329 down to Naha.

I probably should toss my Speed TR in the car and drive to Hedo and explore the north that way.
