Recommended Socks - Sandals ?

What socks would you recommend for commuting and touring?

Also, what sandals would you recommend for cycling?

The weather where we live is rather mild (Modesto, CA), with some chilly mornings below freezing. I've been doing just fine riding with only one pair of socks and tennis shoes.

My socks are wearing out and I need to get some quality riding socks very soon!!! Also, my feet swell up from riding, and so I'd like to try sandals.

I like Sock Guy socks. I would probably go with SmartWool for chilly riding with sandals. For the sandals, Keen has a really sharp SPD compatible sandal. A bit pricey, but much more structure than the Lake and Shimano models, and probably a bit more biomechanically correct.

Defeet Wool Blaze - best socks ever. I wear them year-round - wash no more than once a week, and they never smell.

Followed closely by some Icebreaker mid-weight socks. Don't remember the exact model.

In a thinner sock, I really like the Craft Pro-warm, but since I prefer slightly thicker socks on the bike, the Craft get worn primarily off the bike. I have a couple of other thin socks that never get worn. Many of which are supposed to be winter socks.

SmartWool makes several excellent cycling socks. The thin ones are great even in hot weather. No stinky!
