Go back and video tape this (you can use a bike or helmet mounted camera to do it on the sly) and take as many pictures as you can. Then contact GM's "Customer Relations" or "Public Relations" department. Mention how this is against the law and completely obstructing a lane of traffic, not to mention dangerous! (It's no different than them putting this sign in the middle of the car lane.)
Then tell GM that if it's not removed immediately that you will be contacting your local newspaper and TV station telling them how GM is trying to discourage biking by bold-faced blocking bike lanes in a sad attempt to get people to buy their crappy cars.
Also contact your local community board and tell them about it too.
It's up to YOU to get the word out and "persuade" GM to act legally and responsibly since they can't seem to be able to do it by themselves. This is putting YOUR safety at risk the second you have to now dive into traffic or swerve to avoid the sign.

This bike lane was put in as part of a much larger planned bike lane loop around downtown Detroit, not a photo shoot. Unfortunately there were a number of issues that prevented its completion. In this picture the bike lane ends just ahead. The road narrows and doesn't support bike lanes. And since it's actually becomes a bridge, the cost to widen it for bike lanes was prohibitive. However, it's pretty trivial for cyclists to just stake their claim to part of this road -- or use the RiverWalk bike path along the river in which GM has invested millions of dollars.

Yes it is true and this is a picture of it! I ride this way every work day and it is used for a taxi stand
This loop around town is 3 blocks long and the lane stays the same width up to the stop. The bike lane keeps going past that point and over the bridge. I can take more pictures on my way home from work if you need. The whole thing is less than 1/4 mile long. If they invested millions into a taxi stand that runs for 3 blocks than i am stunned!
