Geese, squirrels, groundhogs, the occasional deer or turkey. There's been a dead skunk lying in the shoulder for the past few days too.

I have an ex-cougar - looking for something a little younger now. Just about any fox will do. I've had some nibbles from some chicks, but so far no luck bagging any wild game.

Since about 80% of my commute is rural, and about 90% of that is through forest, I get to see quite a bit on a typical morning. I almost take it all for granted.....but, I would never move.

I ride past a horse farm before I have even completed my first mile. Next, I barrel down a long hill, through a preserve, which always has a small herd of deer somewhere within sight. A few minutes later and I pass Elsa, the lonely cow. During much of that first half-hour, a host of ground creatures, from squirrels to polecats, will have crossed my path.

The ride only gets better because after that first half hour, I start crossing the river and various creeks, the banks of which are always teeming with wildlife. Even when I get to town, I approach it along the shore of a small lake and then run alongside another river. Lots of geese and ducks, a couple turkey buzzards, one very large water-rat, who must own some property there, and an occasional stray dog (those almost always mind their own business unlike Fido who is guarding his yard).

Darn....now I just want to ride my bike after work instead of doing my taxes.

I saw a snake last week. It was about halfway across the road. It wasn't moving, but still looked like it might be alive so I steered clear. It looked like an escaped pet python, but better safe than sorry.

I've also seen many deer and vultures.

Got buzzed by a low-flying and apparently very lost seagull. This also appears to be goose season. Been dodging those guys, and especially what they leave behind.

Aside from that - was this year a bumper crop for deer or something? I'm seeing packs of 10 of these guys like every other day as they cross the trail. Don't recall that the last couple of years.

Fewer hunters out last season due to high gas prices in November and December perhaps.

Last spring there were lots of bunnies that would cross the trail. One hit my leg it's timing was so bad. Ducks (I saw one getting gangbanged, does that count as adult entertainment?), on another trial through a preserve I scared something large (bobcat/coyote/something else entirely), dogs on extending leashes with the owner standing on the opposite side of the trail on the wrong side of a blind corner so they can clothesline anybody coming around said blind corner...., a few cats, and various types of road kill (cats, squirrels, rabbits).

i wish i got to see wildlife on my morning commute. to see any other than squirrels and rabbits i have to go 20 miles out of town to see some cows and deer occasionally, which i do a few times a week on my hilly ride. or 40 miles and i am in the ozark mountains where im sure there is tons of wildlife, but i have yet to do that. I am a little scared to go up the hills that my car can barely make it up lol

I often see deer, foxes, raccoons, and the occasional skunk on my commute.

Last weekend, my group ride had three big horn sheep go through the peleton. No butting occurred, but it was scary.

Occasionally a coyote walking down the street, an osprey hanging out on the utility pole in back of my house (there's a drainage canal that connect to the ocean back there), herons, ducks, f#$! crows, f#$! seagulls, an occasional swallow, sparrows, opossums.

A dead fish (and a pretty big one - head was about 4-6") laying on the side of the road. No body of water nearby.

Today I saw a Great Blue Heron, too. In fact I see the same one everyday as I ride a road that runs along a creek he/she frequents. It's getting used to me as it circles back and lands in the same spot now. Deer(dozens of deer), bobcat, skunks, opossums, raccoons, feral pigs(VERY dangerous), turkeys, pheasants and once while on a night ride I saw a wolverine. 30 ft from me. We looked at one another and went about our business. Very matter of fact.

Have happened upon escaped domestic herd animals all the time. The 2 that come to mind are the herd of donkeys as I was coming home from work about 1:00 AM(I work 2nd shift). There must've been 30 of them all over the road. They seemed interested and followed me a little ways up the hill I was climbing. Then just the other night a HUGE Angus Bull was standing in the gateway to the pasture..he looked at me as I went by w/my headlight on bright. He wasn't threatened and neither was I. Oh yeah, I rolled up on a llama the other night...that was strange. They're much bigger than I thought as are donkeys. But they're all very graceful. My commute is blessed w/plenty of wildlife being rural, primarily.

A wolverine? In Tennessee? Unless it was Hugh Jackman, wolverines are limited to the Pacific Northwest in the lower 48. Badger maybe?

Mostly bunnies, geese, turkeys, deer, bald and golden eagles, snakes and coyotes..zillions of robins in the fall just as they get ready to go south..and yesterday a guy on a mountain bike that blew by me like I was standing still...me 14mph - him.......zoom zoom zoom

I get to see quite a variety of wildlife. Snakes, hawks, coyote, deer, etc. I hate seeing the rattlesnakes, as I tend to see them too late and **** out. Once, I freaked out, hammered the brakes and went OTB right towards the rattlesnake. It moved off the trail as I flew through the air.

Yesterday, I saw a coyote and actually happened to have my camera handy, so I got a bad pic of it while it snatched a rodent or something...

Today while almost to my work building, on our urban campus, I was coming down the last grand hill right before the traffic circle and two huge racoons started trotting across the crosswalk! I had to slow wayyyy down and then laughed because one chickened out and returned to the edge, letting me go by. The other one made it across, looked back and found his/her partner missing looked suprised and waited. While this was happening I cut the circle corner and almost ran into a car heading for the stop sign. Totally my fault. He was shaking his head like, "These crazy cyclists..." too bad I couldn't explain the wildlife drama I just watched.

A couple weeks ago I almost ran smack into several large Canada geese that were all over the trail after a blind corner. Those suckers are big and was glad I didn't hit one.

I ran over a raccoon early this spring. Just after dusk and that little bugger just ran right in front of me and stopped. I spotted him in my headlight beam just a second to late to dodge him...... and thump thump. The guy just took off back into the woods.

My strangest wildlife sighting was a peacock that left the Denver zoo and landed in my neighborhood. He just stood there in the grass and watched me ride by. Strange.

When I ride out around the rez area I see buttloads...blue herons, ducks, geese, snakes, the occasional alligator, sea gulls...(they were blown this far north during hurricane Camille and do the reverse migration thing to this day) red tailed hawks, squirrels, you name it. Nocturnal roadkill includes raccoon, skunk, beaver, mink and possum. The only wildlife in Jackson proper I'm likely to see is a hungover, tatted up crackho sitting in a pile of puke next to a dumpster.
