Commuting Mayhem (Video)
This weekend is the French Quarter Festival in New Orleans. It started today (Friday) and I had the pleasure of commuting home with rush hour traffic combined with festival foot and auto traffic. I ran the human slalom course flawlessly (almost) and managed to split my way through the grid non-stop (almost).
I had the good sense to bring the helmet cam. What a fun ride. So here it is, hot off the MicroSD card!

BTW - I am not seeking your approval or opinions. Some folks here at BF like this stuff. The rest of you shouldn't watch this one. If you do, please take your shenannygans and "Oh-My-Gods" over to A&S.

I don't get why you felt you absolutely needed to use that route, then complain about the pedestrians. But then, I don't ride streets, sidewalks, ped routes or MUPs because I want to avoid the same thing you desire to avoid.
Odd, indeed.....
Loved the first tune and the last tune.

Nice! My head exploded when you crossed Iberville (3:17 in the video) - shuttle bus, pickup in intersection and then WTF LITTLE KID IN WAGON! Yikes.
How fast are you going when you finally get into the semi-clear on Canal?

There are two logical routes that I can pick from. The side streets are very narrow and people run stop signs like crazy - cars and peds. So I want the widest, most heavily trafficked routes to discourage cross traffic. Decatur is near the river so not much traffic can cross or come from the left. Seems counter-intuitive, but all my cycling buds agree too. Decatur Street gives you the best sight lines and least cross traffic. Plus, it has a nice double yellow "bike lane" right up the middle!

Fun!
Saw more bikes inthe 1st minute of the vid than I am likely to see all year on my commute and I drive past one of the largests colleges in the state every day on the way to work.

Cool video. Don't care for "Pump It", other music was good. Love the tricycle at 0:47, the pink cruiser at 0:56, the Impress Hotel sign at 1:42, the trolley cars later on.
Somewhere out there is a car door with your name on it, though!

The blooper idea is great. Bummer that the best 4 that I can think of offhand happened without the camera.
Twice a rider/actor and I took each other down. Once I rode a drunk zombie on my handlebars for a dozen feet or so and actually put him back down standing up! Then there was this car bumper....

Evidence of what? He's in the Big Easy! Nice vid, I kept watching going, "okaaaay, go!", and timed the gaps in traffic whenever you ran a red. Didn't look as bad as my everyday commute, but I don't hit 25 mph on my way to work.

As far as cops watching my vids. You would think it impossible that they have not seen them. I mean, one sees my stuff, they all would see it I presume. I really believe they just don't give a cr@p about what I do out there. Although one time when I was riding that double-yellow down Decatur street with loads of traffic in both directions, I passed two officers on motor scooters. They looked REALLY young. I looked in my mirror after I passed them figuring a scooter could catch me. I saw the female officer nail the throttle, ride the double-yellow past ONE vehicle before giving up. I think her handle bars were too wide and she got scared. She should have an axe to grind. But that was more than a year ago now.
