Welcome me back into the commuter fold.

I've been off the bike for a while but today I rode in to work for the first time in many months...and it freaking killed me. My commute is about 10 miles one way and it is all hills unfortunately but I did it. Two years ago I used to do this commute 3-4 days a week.

I'm going to try to do this once a week and get in a ride on the weekends to get back in shape and gradually work back up to the level I was at before. Seriously, I used to do this ride in 35-40 minutes and it took me almost an hour today.

I blame the fact that I bought a motorcycle, which is what I'll be riding to work tomorrow.

You can do it, man. When my commute last year was a mile it took me 15 minutes at first, then it got down to where it took me longer to get ready to leave and also to lock it up when I get there than the ride itself took. Now my commute is 4 miles and I do it in 20 minutes not rushing. You can do it.
It'll be the best part of your day.

DOOOO it! DOOOOO it! DOOOOO it! It's ok to start off slow, but do get some miles in before the summer temps get up there. When I re-started commuting after a 3 month hiatus when I was on parental leave, I was actually surprised how quickly I got my legs back. I jumped right back in and did 5 days a week. The first week I was SLOOOOOW. By the end of the second week I was back up close to my normal speed!

Good luck and keep at it. I agree it will soon be the best part of you day.

I'm in the same boat you are. My commute to work used to take me 20 minutes on a bike, now it is taking me 30 (And its only 4 miles!). I was off for about a year though.

I was using a motorcycle for commuting too. What kind of motorcycle do you ride?

My commute time is longer now than when I started a few years ago because now I am a more cautious rider. Meaning: I stop at intersections and this adds more time.
