Nice sunny day, ca. 55F. I was freezing for most of my ride because the MUP is under a heavy tree cover (which makes it nice on hot days). I finally took my jacket off about 1 mile from the office. I hope I've turned the corner on bike commuting. This is my worst year in 4 years, as far as days ridden to work. Between all the rain and some other commitments, I rode only 2 days in May.

warm and sunny, nice view of Rainier.
Passed a lady walking her bike, took the opportunity to see if I could fix her flat w/ no tools or removing the wheel. I could pull the tire away but couldn't get the tube out, so dug out a lever for that, but no problem finding/patching the leak w/ the tire in place. I'm pretty sure that was faster than just replacing the tube would have been. |
Cloudy and wet roads. Sure got good use of my fenders today.
|
Cool and breezy. Legs were heavy after a weekend of racing.

Nah… never mind. :roflmao2: |
Bump. Chain falls off. Bump. Chain Falls off again. Bike upside down, wrench out, wheel pulled back. Chain tight.
Bump. Wheel slips forward again, chain loose, then off. Bike upside down, wrench out, wheel back, chain tight. Bump. chain off. I missed not just my train but the next one too. Dirty as heck all day. I taught in my fila and merrell getup! I'm tightening the heck out of the rear nuts, but no luck. Maybe I'm just too afraid of wrenching something super tight on the aluminum. I don't have a class last period, so I'll see if I can get it straightened out before heading home. Grr. What sucks is that I felt very fresh and rested and looked forward to a fast ride on a clear morning. |

Nice October day for June 1st...41*F, but no wind, left late, had to deal with a little more traffic but not a problem.
|
Home sick today, no commute. :(
|
Must have been ahead of the heavy traffic this morning. Low 50's, sun coming up over the cascades, Mt Rainier in the foreground listening to some reggae... pretty damn pleasant!
|
In the span of 7 days I rode close to 370 miles. I have no desire to commute until Wed.
My goodness my legs are tired. |
today I rode in being paranoid b/c I didn't have a spare tube with me. Just put my last in on my front tire. I have a fresh reserve stashed at work, so immediately after arriving I tossed it in my seatbag. I got about halfway home this afternoon and realized my seat bag with the new tube and patches and co2 etc is still sitting on the bench at work. wtf.

it could have been better. had to deal with a few people blowing their horns at me even though i was close enough to the park cars to hit the mirrors. i don't think i'm ever going to get used to riding in the city

</unexpected soapbox> 62F/16.6666667C this morning. Fabulously pleasant! Before I knew it I was pushing and sweating the whole way. Great Ride!!! :D |
Weather said 80% chance of thunderstorms last night, and I've been painting for 2 days, so I'm sore. Now this AM the weather says 40% chance but I'mm too late to bike it. Guess I'll just make a supply run with the car :(

Warm this morning and dark as usual. I saw lightning flashes in the skies to the North. I rode my C.Itoh, the junker of all junkers and locked it outside. No way am I lugging that gaspipe frame down the stairs when I go home today. That thing is as heavy as my Columbia Tourist V. It does give me a workout though.

Rows of new corn shoots in perfectly straight lines guide my commute. The rain has been good for the fields. A white feral cat tries to hide by crouching amoungst the young plants. Silly critter.

I have to drive my wife to work this week. Trying to figure out how to get ride time in.
|
I Left nice and early at around 5:30 am. I love that time of day, because I have the roads all to myself.
|
warm and I swallowed a bug

Top 10 Reasons why today's commute was great:
#10 - Partly cloudy skies, 61 deg. #9 - No wind. NONE! #8 - First commute on clipless pedals and I didn't fall over. #7 - My new commuting shoes are really comfy. And fashionable. #6 - I zipped past a line of about 30 cars stopped at a traffic light (I was making a right) and FELT REALLY GOOD! #5 - Drivers were especially courteous today. They waited until I had a chance to move over, slowed down as they passed me. What gives? #4 - The hills I climb are becoming less of a challenge. #3 - And when I climb those hills, shifting to my "granny gear" never even occurs to me. #2 - I trued my own wheels before heading out and didn't break anything. And the #1 reason why the commute was great today: #1 - First commute on my new Brooks B17 and I can still feel my butt! |
50F. Cloudy. Tailwind allowed me to push the Liquid easily along at 17-20MPH most of the way. I saw one cyclist approaching my route from a side street but he/she/it never caught me. Passed another going the other way. A regular. Old guy who cooks right along on a hybrid and waves to everyone with a big smile. He's cool.
I stopped to say hello to a kitty, too. :o |
Overcast and 65F -- very nice! Saw the usual number of commuters and runners on the MUP, until I got close to Georgetown. Then I saw about 15 riders leaving town, along with 2 bike cops but dunno if they were together on purpose or by chance. First time I've seen bike cops around that part of the trail, too. Saw 2 deer by the trail, enjoying their breakfast. Finally, in Rosslyn, one motorist decided to block the crosswalk that leads onto Key Bridge, despite all the bikes and runners trying to cross. She couldn't go anywhere because of all the traffic, but I guess she felt better because she was 5 feet closer to the merge lane.

I had to dig out the winter gear this morning. Morning temps in the low 40's this morning and won't go over 55 for the day and nothing over 70 for the next 7 days. For those of you who live near lake Michigan you know what I'm talking about. We get these NE winds off of the cold lake and you would think it was November already.
Aside from the temps the ride in was fine. No one honked, buzzed me or cut me off. |
gorgeous morning for riding
i have been taking the longer route to work which is 7.5 miles...so i have added 2 miles to my route which is great i must clean the drivetrain thoroughly tonight...it's a bit gunky |

First Commute in 20+ yrs. :thumb:
Bit on the cool side 11*C / 51.8*F It's a short commute at only 4.2Kms / 2.6mi, my legs sure felt it. Near the end I got a small hill. I'm sure after a week or two I'll be use to it. |
Absolute - Bravo! Welcome to the club!
|
Beautiful. I woke up early and took a new way to work, riding over top of the big hill rather than around it. The uphill was tough, but i hit 32.5 on the downhill, and shaved 4+ miles and 20+ minutes off my ride. Even with the shower, i was at my desk and dressed before 6:50.
