Great ride in again today. I rode the Eros, I really like that bike. Weather was good should be a great ride home too. I plan on stopping at the bike shop to look at stuff I don't need:rolleyes:
|
Apparently this is the 1st day of the school year we all biked, so I caught my wife and daughter in the trailer a bit up the MUP from home after riding w/ our son to his school in the opposite direction. Makes me wonder if I really have any excuse for not pulling the trailer both ways (I work a mile past where my wife does).

Good times
What's up with newly paved roads being torn up again?! Did they flub up or something? It's hard to keep track of all the construction around here. |
Grey skies , heavely overcast , wet and windy , but not cold.
Kind of sweaty while wearing a jacket , but making great speed. I broke the left hand shifter of the Jake , no more big chainring , and I dropped the bike off at the bikeshop.I hope the repair wil covered by the warranty , Dual-Action shifters are quite expensive if you want to buy a new pair , and there are not many single left hand shifters lying around in the bikeshop. The guy told me he'll call me next week to tell me the news , I really hope my bike is not held captive for several weeks. But I'll take my other bike tomorrow morning , no problem . Looking sharp on (or off ) your bike is easier in shorts than in tights , but what the heck , I always wanted to be a balletdancer !! NOT ! |
Beautiful morning. I managed to get out of the house early enough to do a long loop out into the country for 25 miles before work. Very nice.
|
Biked to and from my Soc class last night, bus today.
|
the commute for me was really tough. A cloudy windy day, just couldn't keep the speed up. The west side bike path is the worse, strong gust of wind really do me in. most likey could only do 10 to 11 mph, with bursts when the wind died down. Coming home over the Brooklyn Bridge, was so bad, this time I really though about getting off the bike and walking, but I was such in a rush to to get to my post office on Atlantic ave by 5pm, and i barely made it, I was the last person and he locked the door after me.

Brutally hot, dry, and windy.
And the beemers were out in force. |
An easy ride in at 58 F ( 14 C). It was supposed to rain, and I packed for it, but no rain. I didn't realize how cloudy it was until I rode under a low flying plane on a common flight path. Also, some lights that are usually out were on. I can never see the difference between cloudy dark and dark, but the street lights see something.
|
Good ride in to work today. I rode the Castro in because I have a person coming to look at it. Hopefully they like it and I can then buy a bike that fits me. Regardless I have a bike shop that going to trade me bike for bike (58cm Castro for 49cm Castro) I LOVE THIS BIKE!

After night rains the roads were wet, just like Monday. About the same temperature too (~65F) and Monday I was a little warm, so I pulled the sleeves of the hi-viz jacket and ran in vest mode. Turns out it wasn't just like Monday; the rain started up again (albeit light drizzle) and there was a pretty stiff breeze out of the north (14 gusting to 21 according to Intellicast), so it was a little chillier than Monday. Still not too bad once I got warmed up.
Chance of t-storms this afternoon. Should be.... interesting. |
Commute #21
Great ride! Only left a little late. Little traffic. The sun was not yet visible over the corn when I left, but 30 minutes later it was dominating my rear-view mirror making the mirror useless (I have a west/east commute, the sun is always behind me). It was a little cold (52) so I wore my fall gear - yellow jersey + red cotton long-sleeve shirt + hi-viz vest. On the way home the cotton shirt & vest go in the "trunk". |
Yeah, I got caught out in the rain for the last 10 minutes of the ride last night. Not cold, but absolutely soaking.
This morning the ride before the train was only wet streets and puddles on the Trinity Trail. From the train to the office near DFW Int'l, it was the soaking shower all over again, but cooler. First times I've ridden in real rain since the ride to Corpus in March. Superflash was a casualty, despite being wrapped around the seam with electrical tape. Go figure. I need to put the fenders back on, too. |
Flat tire. Sux since it's now full dark for the whole trip. 46 F was cold. Won't be doing this much longer. Today was #17 for the year

Yeah, just put on another layer, maybe get some gloves.
|
Need some light gloves in the morning.
Excellent ride! |
Man, I don't know how you guys ride in such cold weather. But then again, I guess you might wonder how I survive in my element. When I left the house at 6:30 AM this morning it was 80F, with 80% humidity. I'm still riding in my bike sandals.
I dismounted after my 18.5 mile commute completely drenched and dripping as usual. It takes three 24 oz refills on my bike bottle just to get back to a only-slightly-dehydrated state. |
Awesome ride in today. Pretty thick fog had me singing Some Velvet Morning the whole way to work.
|
Another fine day! But, I'm now riding at dawn, not too many days before I have to start using the lights. I had planned on driving today but the weather was just too tempting.
I think we've had almost a month of sunny, 60-70f temps, no wind weather. This has got to be some kind of record. As a mid western catholic I'm beginning to feel guilty, weather gods bound to come down hard. |
Seems like summer finally decided to come to Sacramento, about 2 months late. Very pleasant in the mornings (mid 50sF), but mid 90s in the afternoon. Well, better late than never.
|
High 40s. Shorts, but long sleeves, alas. :p
Reeled in a woman and decided to let her pace me. 12MPH for 4 miles. :D Very relaxing. Amazingly, no one caught up to us. Attack squirrels are in rare form now. I saw one carrying a little cluster of 5 or 6 acorns on a stick. Very comical. |
Nice ride. Foggy. Caught up w/ an ex-neighbor, and he was flying, 25mph. Then passed a coworker so I hopped off the express and rode w/ him the rest of the way. My wife saw a coyote last night in a place I've seen them over the years. Nothing this morning though.
|
Left the house a bit later than I prefer, so school traffic, etc. was in full swing, and the sky was light enough to see without needing a big light up front (though I always ride with a blinkie).
I passed 3 beautiful women on road bikes and we exchanged pleasantries. I'm a married guy, but I can still acknowledge beauty, can't I? :D As of lunchtime it is muggy (for here) - low 80s F and almost 40% humidity. It is amazing how wet the air feels with the slightest humidity when one is accustomed to 10-15%. |
niiiiiiiice. 91 degrees, 18% humidity. I do believe I saw a new/recent commuter today. never seen him before. ride on!
|
Took 5 bottles of water in my bag to restock the fridge here at work. It made for a bit more annoying ride with the weight on my back. I hit a large hidden pothole and knocked my rear wheel out of true, I'll have to fix that before I leave today.
|
Wow and I complain about it being cold? Much better than the hot muggy weather. I'm in Toronto so it's a very cool 11 degrees (low 50's). Needless to say, quite cold even in pants this morning but by the time I go home it's nearly 70F.
|
nice and sunny on the ride home. Stopped at house for trail-a-bike before proceeding on to retrieve 8 yr old from his school.

The crazies were out for the afternoon ride home. :twitchy:
Everyone seemed to be in a HUGE hurry for sume reason...... and WTF is up with these ADD text and drive people********************?/ arrrgh! They were everywhere today. I damn near got nailed by a woman in an SUV when I was walking my bike across a designated pedestrian crossing along a particularly busy 2-way street. I've started using this crossing as a relatively sane way to cross an otherwise ridiculous street. The traffic along the main road had stopped (there's a button that engages yellow flashing lights, at which point traffic must stop). This lady was waiting across the street from me (at an intersecting street next to the pedestrian crossing) to turn left- where I was crossing. She saw stopped traffic, and without even bothering to look left she floored it and was gunning straight for me. I ran and had to yank my bicycle forward to avoid it being crushed. I yelled "JESUS !!!!!!!" at the top of my lungs - adrenaline - she slammed on her brakes and gave a very sincere "I'm so sorry". She wasn't texting, but she WAS on here cellphone. UGH! I was shaking. She came within inches of me. Anyway, I finished crossing the street, gathered myself, mounted up and kept riding. The crazies continued to plague my ride, but more as an annoyance (driving too fast on otherwise quiet streets, etc). We'll see how Friday goes. :) |
Anybody got a link to bike pontoons? We are building arks here and the rain is forecast completely through next week.
