Bike commuted every day this week, first time I've done that in a while due to weather, work and other factors. The weather has been ideal - sunny and mild.
|
Just on the verge of being brisk this morning. My windvest kept my core fine but my arms and legs were cool. Might need the kneewarmers soon. Still rather invigorating to ride in so its nice.
I got a late start so I had to keep the pace up the whole ride. My drive side crank loosened up on me so I had to limp a bit on the final 1.5 miles. I've been wanting to get an upgrade so this might be it. |
Luvverly ride this morning on the old Raleigh :)
|
Low 50s this morning. Fall has arrived. Wore knickers for the first time this year.
|
I hope I find my blinky on the way home today. One can hope...

My commute home at 12:30am was great. The wind had finally died down so I pushed harder then I normally do and made it home 2 mins faster then my best time.
Heading back to work at 11:30 am though was a whole different story. The wind was blowing harder then it was yesterday and I was riding against it. (gusting over 50 mph) I was surprised though, that it only took a few mins longer then normal to make it to work. The weather channel said the wind is suppose to die back down before I head home, but the temp is going to be in the mid 30s. |
windy, windy, windy.
still good though. but windy. i hate living near the shore. |
Had to work overtime today, so I got to commute!
It was nice... low 60's no wind and not too many cars. |
No commute till the 12th burning up vacation days. Did get out and make a nice 26 mile loop and enjoy the cool weather today. Met a nice couple at Kennesaw Mountain that were out enjoying a ride as well. Really nice day for a ride despite the overcast skys.
Have a dental cleaning on my birthday (8th) and it is at 11:30 so I can ride to that one after traffic clears. |

If you have any piece of the light, even just the clip, and you bought it at a brick-and-mortar store, take it back. They might give you a new one (this happened to me with a different brand and the LBS took care of me).
I just now see that Price Point has a 9.99 version and PBK has the same SF version rebadged for $18 (and no shipping or tax) I may pick up a few more if I have any other orders to make. |
Good commute today, early though 3:45am:twitchy: but good…

It was a chilly 48 F ( 8 C ) this morning. Coming across a bridge that serves as a highway interchange, I was clearly in view of the exit ramp, as well as being all lit up in the dark, but some
fellow decided that he didn't want to stop, so he kept coming at me, until I just moved over to the left. Even though it was dark, we looked right at each other, and he still kept coming. The traffic is light that time of morning, so moving left was a safe move. I have no doubt this fellow does the same things to cars, because he does not feel the need to yield to right-of-way traffic. The amusing thing is that he has a vanity plate. You'd think that if you are a stupid driver, that you would not want a vanity plate. |
Beautiful morning. High 50's, breeze in my favor, low traffic, bright moon.

Almost didn't ride in as there were reports of fog and drizzle in the city but it was dry at my place so off I went at 5:30 am. Loving my new magicshine 900 light. It was low 40's (5-6C) and dry until about 15 miles in, ran into the drizzle and the fog. Couldn't tell if the water flying off my face when I turned my head was sweat or rain water. Love that feeling. My bag was too heavy. Still carrying a messenger bag but it doesn't work with all of the stuff I had in there this morning. I felt like my lungs had to move the bag to fully expand when breathing hard. I'll leave the laptop at the office this time and won't be carrying all of the food home so that'll shed 12 about pounds for the ride home.
Wednesday afternoon was just about the hardest commute home I've done. Winds were 25-30mph gusting to 40 and it was a headwind about 2/3 of the ride. Had the laptop in the messenger bag that day with some other stuff I wanted to take home from the office. Worked from home the rest of the week. |
A little warmer today, 43F. I was a bit overdressed and a bit sweaty by the time I got to work. A light rain started during the last 2-3 miles. I got passed by a guy on a SS who asked if his blinky (attached to a messenger bag) was working. It is, but it's pointing straight up. I tell him, and he makes an adjustment that doesn't really help. He get a couple hundred yards ahead of me and I can't see him at all.

Cold! 30sF. Went for longsleeves and tights, no coat. Fullfinger gloves. 8 yr old was a mess 'cause we left his backpack at school Friday, routine disruption not good. His lunchbox fit in my bar bag fine though.
|
42F when I left the house. I was dressed comfortably (bib knickers, l/s jersey, windvest, glove liners) except for my feet. Now where did I put those toe covers last spring????
Legs were dead from yesterday's Mt. Diablo Challenge. Luckily for me, my buddy did Levi's Grand Fondo on Saturday and he was in shape for a hard ride either. So we took it easy and chatted. |
Nice and chilly this morning, 34F (1C) and wet from a stady soaking rain yesterday and most of the night. The skies had cleared over my area of town, and I rode in the dark with the brilliant glow from the moon. Loving the P7 headlight.
I received the J&G rain gear on Saturday, and donned it for the ride in, though I really didn't need it. It is supposed to rain later today, so it is nice to have. I had to return the booties to exchange for the next size down. The XL's are REALLY big. One note, the J&G rain booties do not have a cutout for cleats. I'll have to cut mine, which I'm sure will void any warranty. |
45*F cloudy, got flat about half way in, such a pain to change in the dark. Looked at it once got to work, looks like a good size nail went straight in and out. That's it for these tires, going to switch them back to my other ones, as these have no puncture resistance. Other then that ride was good.

Nice and crisp! I was gone on business to New Mexico (which is neither new, nor Mexico), and now that I'm back it's a totally different climate. When I left, temperatures were in the low 60F in the morning and mid 90's in the afternoon. But, just one week later it's definitely fall! 46F when I left my house, climbing to 71F for the high. Great ride, but I'm going to need some gloves and a head band soon.
|
Sunny, 40's this morning. Heavy traffic. Starting out at just about sunrise. Riding directly into the sun is a little nerve racking, since I'm sure they're blinded.
|
This morning the sky was still dark and grey, but not especially cold. Definitily have to put the lights on to be seen , and a reflective-fluorescent band on my backpack.
This evening I rode through the rain , soaking wet and quite miserable. My son pitied me when I finally got home and told me to go and change quickly before I got sick.Sweet little darling. Next couple of days announces more rainshowers , but rather sweet temperatures , around 21°Celsius.I will try to find my Gore-Tex trousers . No more deer now in the morning , as it gets too dark to see them in the woods I ride through. |

I'm getting pumped for the colder weather. I'm not sure how things will go once it starts to snow and ice over-- I've never done a 13.5 mi/1:30 ride on such slippery surfaces before, so I'll have to decide when to ride and when to not chance it and simply drive. You get some big, burly Nokians, at least 2" wide, and you'll be able to ride thru anything. It may take you a little longer to ride. And we're talking an extra 10 or 15mins. But there's nothing like riding in the dead of winter. That is heavy-duty biking. ___________ |
The ride in was uneventful; I overdressed. It was 50 degrees when I left so I started peeling layers pretty quickly during the ride. Remembering the colder mornings last week, last night I crocheted myself a neck warmer thing- it's ugly but it gets the job done. It's like a circular rug that covers my neck and chin. In calico colors. Now if I could only figure out how to crochet mittens and wool socks... I'm about as low-tech as you get. The kids waiting for the bus in the morning just love to see what mismatched thrown together crap I'm wearing as I go past- they always get a good laugh, and I laugh with them. :p Just wait till they get a load of my ear flap hat... heheh
There was an awful headwind on the ride home, I am unfortunate to ride due west in the afternoons, so with storm systems as they are, I would only ever experience a tailwind during a noreaster... when I'm sure I'd have other things to worry about. |
Tonight was my first time commuting in the rain and it was awesome. Temp was 53f with a nice steady rain. Think it was the most relaxing ride I've had so far. Can't wait until it snows!
Was happy to find that my backpack is waterproof. When I bought it it had said it was waterproof but I have learned from experience that just because it says its waterproof, doesn't mean it is. I also found out that my rain suit is very hot. I will have to get something lighter for summer or I'll be passing out from heat stroke. |
Its been nearly a week now of dry weather here in Perth and I'm loving it. Pulled my 12.8km 1 way commute into 2x40km commutes. Its awesome.
|
At 5am this moring it was 38 F ( 3 C). I wore an outer layer today, the first time this season. Other
than that nothing much. |

|
My commute today was wet, but I did get to try out my new rain suit.
