Cold this morning, it took me a bit of pedaling to get the body warmed up. I wore the right clothing though because I wasn't all sweaty when I arrived at work. My legs were surprisingly fresh this morning after doing 40 miles yesterday.
|
I'm gonna have to take the bus, I'm way too out of it from lack of sleep to ride my bike. Sigh.
|
40F this morning, only feet were cold (and still wearing shorts!). I hope this is a 5-day commute week.
|
nice ride, a little warmer than usual at ~55F. The fun part is I rode straight to a Union rally :)

34 degrees on todays ride in.
The ride for me today was pretty miserable. Wind and rain, had to go slow because of wet leaves, dark. Glad I did it though. |

My ears were feeling it. Are there any recommended ear muffs/warmers for wearing under a helmet, besides this kind?

Temp was right around 30 this morning, with ice from yesterday's wet snow in places. Blue skies and frosted mountains made up for lack of warmth.
|
Dark and downpour. 50F though so I just wore shorts.
My 8 yr old is beyond OCD about his bike seat getting wet, so he rode from home to school w/ the plastic bag on his seat that I put on after rolling his bike out of the garage to the driveway. |
30s this morning, brilliant sun (low on the horizon), no wind, excellent day to ride. The farmers fields were silent with corn stalks standing as sentries. The cows appeared to be content and enjoying the moment. Such a relief not to be stressed getting to work. The whole week seems like it might be doable weather wise. Hope everyone else is having a nice ride.
|
It should be a decent week up here as well.
Cheers |

First commute after a week off. Some jerk in a POSmobile passed me on the right. So much for taking the lane.
54F and clear. I overdressed. |
One of my co-workers rode to work today! Yay! I told her it's a good way to de-stress and she's been stressed lately. She may need to stretch her commute a few hundred miles to get rid of all her stress.

god for her JVossarian!
Last night i noticed i had 6 broken spokes on my rear wheel... :( saddly i cant commute for a few days....wish i had a backup bike...no money to buy what i want! |

One of these days, I'll hit the lotto and get me my Surly LHT and all the bad-a$$ accessories I ooh and aah over online and at the LBS. Until then, my $200 Schwinn from Target and whatever accessories I can scrape up over time will have to do. Was out from work last week on vacation to Quebec. I didn't miss having to work, but I did miss my bike and my commuting time. Was jealous of the locals biking around the city streets. I was glad, too, to see Montreal's Bixi bike share. Didn't have occasion to use it, but saw lots of stations and lots of bikes, both in use and not. Hopefully, DC's fledgling bike share program will some day be as successful and ubiquitous as Montreal's! Quite a bike culture in Montreal besides Bixi from what I could tell, too. Lots of commuters about and some good infrastructure (cyclotracks, bike lanes, etc.) My commute this morning was nice. Enjoyed being back on the bike and the temps were nice and cool. Amazing how quickly a week of eating junky food (Ever had poutine? It's irresistable!!!) and not riding can change you. It felt like I hadn't ridden in ages, and I found myself wanting to coast more in places I normally just pedal along through. So sluggish... Oh well, I'll be back in form in no time, though. Looking forward to the ride home even more than the ride to work! :thumb: |
Colder here today. 23F or so this morning. Fortunately, I got off to a late start due to sick kids at home, so I was able to see all the icy spots (not that many).
I had to wear my overboots and PI Inferno gloves. It felt great to fly on by people scraping their cars. Paul |
I like how orange tinted glasses highlight fall foliage.
The aromatic smell of riding in fallen leaves.:) |
Brutal headwind coming home. Blew my computer sensor astray off my front wheel! Either that or a boatload of decomposing leaf schmutz got between the magnet and the sensor...

I've always been a 3-season commuter but I decided to buy the lights, figure out the winter clothing, and add a few more months of saddle-time this year. I've always sweated the clock, trying to get in some more work while worrying about the fading light. I made two pitch-black rides home last week and decided to work extra late tonight. I left the office in downtown DC around 8:30 and discovered a new world. No traffic on my downtown mile, then no one (but I mean NO ONE) on the Capital Crescent Trail. I had it all to myself. I'm thinking of getting up and going in to work a little later and have a great commute home. This could work out.

In the dark..
In the pouring rain.. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/17220131 Nothing but fun :P. Flippin cold, but fun! |
Steady rain at 42 F ( 5 C ) and somewhat warm. The rain got heavier about halfway through the ride. Everything is soaked and draining on the floor in my cubicle. Before I went to bed the weather
did not include rain until this afternoon, so I didn't pack for the rain. So this morning, I had to repack my clothes. I had to try out some new shoe covers, as my older ones are getting ratty. They looked like they wouuld be easier to get on, but they weren't and my shoes had wet spots, so I hope they prove to be warm in the cold weather. As I was typing, I noticed a river coming out from under my laptop. I had to hang my gloves under my lights, but now I need to find another place because they have too much water in them. |

heading down to Gerogetown, because the Crescent trail is so packed with people coming and going. |

Routine fall ride. Damp roads & puddles from the night's rain but otherwise dry. mid-40s. Still enjoying my new headlight.
|
Rain, rain, rain. Drove in. And I even lubed my bike last night. Wimp.

Dark and wet, but not particularly cold. I wore all my rain gear, and stayed pretty dry, but I was way too warm by the time I got to the train station. And then I froze on the train.
Most interesting thing, I heard an animal screaming in the woods next to the canal towpath. It was high up in a tree, and made a sound like an electric motor with a bad bearing. Very creepy. |
Nice riding this morning, it was about 40º when I left the house.
I see other bikers in the morning wearing shorts and no ear covering, it makes me cold just looking at them. I scarfed some leftover cake before the ride, I don't usually eat until I get to work, but I was especially hungry this AM. |

Got out just as it started to sprinkle, but got ahead of the rain and had a dry ride all the way. SE wind meant tailwind for the Northbound portions of my ride (first 6 mi and last 5), but vicious headwind crossing Tampa Bay (7 mi). Had to wear my sandals again. I'm still arriving at the parking garage completely drenched in sweat. Cooler weather has been promised for next week. Maybe then I get to try my new bike shoes that actually cover up my toes, and my new bright yellow long sleeve Under Armor top. |
