Its gonna be a good one today! 65 and sunny with all the changing colors!

Great commutes the past few days. It was raining early yesterday morning but I had to leave late due to a repairman coming by the house, and it was sunny, dry and warm by the time I left. Another beautiful day today. I was tempted to drive because I lost the key card for my office and didn't want to wait outside for someone to show up, but then found the card next to my bike in the garage. Glad I rode because the weather is perfect for commuting today -- low 50s am and upper 60s pm, and zero chance of rain.

MondoSam 10-29-09 08:07 AM

Still wimping out even though no rain today. Wet leaves left on the MUP over from the past 2 days making me nervous. I ride slicks. Maybe a different tire? What would you recommend? I run 700x23c (currently using Vredestein Fortezza SE).

RB1-luvr 10-29-09 08:16 AM

wet leaves and damp road had me riding out towards the cars more than I am comfortable with, but I was glad to ride in; needed it. Going through a tough time emotionally right now, and need the therapeautic value of the bicycle. Road the single speed early 80's Puch.

Chilly! I need to get some earmuffs or a skullcap or something to block the wind. It was only 42F this morning, but my ears are still hurting 30 minutes after I arrived here at work. Other than my cold ears/face it was a damn nice ride, crystal clear and not a breath of wind. Saw a rider ahead of me and juiced up to overtake him...but as I got closer I noticed he was on a BMX bike . No points for that one, although I did get a "whoa!" as I blew by. People are getting more scarce on bikes around here as the weather gets colder...ah well, more road all to myself!

pharasz 10-29-09 10:45 AM

STILL HOT IN TAMPA BAY. Ick! Still wearing my Shimano Sandals, open toed. Wrung out my dri-weave T in the sink and at least a cup of sweat poured out of it. Drained my 24 oz bottle of Gatorade on the ride (18.5 mi), then a 10 oz bottle of OJ upon arrival, then refilled my 24 oz bottle and drained it. Then a cup of coffee (1/2 decaf in a vain effort to avoid further dehydration), then drained the 24 oz bottle again. Finally, at Noon, I peed.

Now I'm working on another 24 oz bottle of water...

caloso 10-29-09 11:05 AM

Brisk and bright, a perfect autumn morning. Saw the sun rise over the Sierra then watched for hawks and herons as I took the long way in this morning. 42F and I was perfectly dressed at my core (thank you, Smartwool baselayer). I only wish I'd worn thicker gloves. I've always had cold fingertips and my thin cotton gloves weren't hacking it.

HardyWeinberg 10-29-09 11:10 AM

44F and wet. Rode the fixie w/ its new fenders today. No lights, but late enough getting in today that I felt good about my YELLOW coat w/ its reflectors.

AlmostTrick 10-29-09 11:10 AM

They finally got the paving machine out on a one mile section of "rough grooved surface" I've been riding for almost two weeks now. Yeah!!! Smooth sailing ahead. :)

daddybiker 10-29-09 11:17 AM

Overcast but no wind, wet streets but temps in low 40s. Perfect ride except for the two pickup trucks that insisted on making a right turn and cut me off. I guess I am required to yield to larger vehicles which I would if I knew they were going to be belligerent. Can't wait for the ride home.

Posted 2,000 miles this year on Tuesday. Need to get to 2,400 miles to match last year's total. Hope everyone's ride was fun today.

beingtxstate 10-29-09 03:25 PM

not bad...took off early to miss the rain. Tomorrow's gonna be a soggy one...

bugly64 10-29-09 07:15 PM

Rode with my kickstand down for a 1 1/2 mile. I would have made it all the way to work if the gate guard wouldn't have told me.

sewil 10-29-09 07:58 PM

no wind. pretty leaves. very peaceful. the only disruption was the persistent clickity-clack of my aging ankles....

CCrew 10-30-09 05:02 AM

They were calling for sprinkls, and I got them on the car portion of my commute, but it held off while on the bike. Nice ride in..

mjw16 10-30-09 06:17 AM

It was nice to finally be squeek, click and, ping free this morning. For the first time in a month or more, the bike was nice and quiet, after cleaning and re-greasing the pedal threads yesterday, I was able to locate and eliminate all the annoying noises that were driving me crazy. I guess all the rain we've had recently displaced much of the grease in many of these parts. Anyway, it was a nice ride in, temps in the low 50's, moderate energy, no pain anywhere. So, I'd say it was a nice ride and end to another all ride week.

MondoSam 10-30-09 07:35 AM

51F, breezy, lots of leaves, fresh air. Wonderful this morning.

jpdesjar 10-30-09 10:05 AM

I woke up and was hoping it was Saturday, I really wanted to sleep in, but alas it's Friday.
The ride in was alright, kind of boring actually, just another commute I suppose.
Happy Halloween!

HardyWeinberg 10-30-09 10:39 AM

warm! 58F. And damp but no precip. Lotta puddles and dissolving leaves.

mslanh01 10-30-09 11:20 AM

Warm and sunny at 75F! Pretty windy though, gusts up to 30mph! lots of leaves and debris flying around! Definitely not a day to forget glasses!

HardyWeinberg 10-30-09 12:54 PM

great moments in miscommunication - my wife was to drive to my office, drop our daughter at my halloween party, and bike to her office. So I put her bike on the car, *and ride a bike not set up to pull the trailer*. I can put it on the bike rack and drive it home with our daughter. Somehow, she goes into the garage, gets another bike and the bike trailer, and rides out and hurts her knee while riding, so she's stuck somewhere w/ a costumed 4 yr old, missing her lunch appt.

Today's trip around town getting errands done (only my third time doing such a thing, I'm a newbie) was fine, except for a bad lane change when I was almost home that got me really down. I admit it was my mistake for making an unsafe lane change. Someone yelled while passing by, "...bike lane f***-..." I felt so bad for the motorists I inconvenienced and the good cyclists out there whose image I tarnished. I'll try to be more careful. :(

wheel 10-31-09 02:22 AM

Last two days have been 34f and 40f in Phoenix in the morn. I am so glad it is Saturday.
I saw a guy walking in shorts friday. He was one of my daily peeps (walker).

My normally 60F morning commute will be about 35F Thursday morning. No period of adjustment!

How did it go? I thought Friday was much colder must have been the dew point.
First time in a ski mask in a long while. The first ten min. were brutal.

daddybiker 10-31-09 06:18 AM

Tough here today with high winds..reaching into the 40 mph range. Temps are good in the 50s but there's no way I can ride to work today. Just noticed I had left one of my bike lights on in the garage over night. I hate that but then again better to find out now and replace the battery then finding out next week on the way home when it will definitely be dark out due to the clock change tonight. Happy cycling everyone!

Ed Holland 10-31-09 11:38 AM

No riding the last couple of days, and I had to take yesterday off thanks to what I suspect is a nasty case of the pig pox.

Oink.

Welcome to the world of transportation bicycling! Don't feel bad about inconveniencing motorists, sometimes it is inevitable even when you follow all the rules. And don't worry about tarnishing the image of "good" cyclists. You just make us look better! Haha just kidding, keep up the riding, learn how to keep yourself safe and have fun! :thumb:

AlmostTrick 10-31-09 01:05 PM

Fridays commute included high winds and light rain. Bike got very muddy thanks to sections under road construction. 12.1 MPH average going in, 16.5 coming home!

Not heard that term for it, but thats very good indeed :) LOL

now then, must go, I have the urge to look for some truffles...

wheel 10-31-09 05:58 PM

Back to lower 80s.

Made a uturn and showed up a p truck.

I can literally just change directions :)

So from the left turn lane where the concrete island ends.
I use the left lane or 3rd lane to whip a uturn. Cars are approaching on the 1st and 2nd lane which prevent the truck from turning.
I can then cycle roughly 300 feet to a Left turn lane on to Hayden. P truck needs to use the first lane, in order to turn around. :)
