51 degrees F is about perfect commuting weather. I have not rode to work for 10 days becuse I had teeth pulled and other things till Friday. So Saturday I took out my road bike for a 15-20 miler and my back hurt a little (fit problem) so later saturday I cut down a lot of brush down a fence row and by dark my back and knee really hurt. So I road today, my knee still hurts when walking but not at all while riding. Makes me mad I did not ride sooner, I think my knee is fine to ride on.
Sorry to type so much but I am at work and trying to look busy. Think it is suppose to be low 60's on way home.

Well, The weather finally caught and passed the cashflow, and I drove into work today for the first time since June. Yuck.
I knew that the storm was going to bring rain, but thought it would be near 60 and rainy in the morning, followed by progressively cooler temps but dry throughout the day.

I'm set for wet weather down to about 55 degrees F, but need to do some serious gearing up for anything colder (until it snows, at which point I'm set). I was planning to buy proper rain gear in mid-October, but the weather beat my plan - it was 43 degrees and pouring rain when I woke up this morning. Damn.
Oh, well, I'll be back on the bike tomorrow.........

I cyclo-commuted for the first time in 36 years this morning. When I was young and full of fire, it was either bike or walk, but a house way out in the country and a take-home vehicle cooled my ardor for cyclo-commuting. A little chest pain back in March, and some lifestyle reorganizations, cooler, drier weather; I hung the panniers this morning, and mounted up for one of the most pleasant 7.5 mile rides I've taken in years.

In the process of preparing to commute, I dug out some old stuff, and I wonder if anyone is still using a Topeak Nite Buster light set. It uses a "special" battery (that I was able to pick up at Batteries Plus for $12), but it is bright, and with two "headlights," one can be focused on the road and the other at oncoming traffic.

Beautiful, sunny day today, mild breeze. Crisp weather--maybe 40F. I wore gloves for the first time.

I left at a different time, and rode near some other commuters I had never seen before. I said "good morning," but they ignored me.

Today i had a meatting on the Companys Headquarters 4 miles from my office. My GF drove me to the headquarters with my bike in the trunk... i have a couple of cyclist enthusiast down at HQ so they were eigher to say hello!...after the meatting i spoke to some of them, one of them was dissing my 17"wheels saying they wont go fast enough to ride with him, i just told him to read a bit more about this bicycle, and next time they ride ill cut them into pieces with my steel vintage classic english 17" bike! :D

the one bicycle expert of the all was very pummped up with the bike and told me he would give me some cycling clips and cycling sneakers, and explained how they affect cycling in general.

so i changed from work clothing to cycling! and sped up to my office, good day, not very hot, sunny and at the same time a mist rain was falling, pretty cool! got here fast! when i called back to HQ they were impressed about how fast got here.

I had a nice commute today, got a goathead stuck in the front slick but I brushed it off with my hand and it looks to be holding air still.

Nice weather on the ride home supposedly. I think I'll extend my ride home to get a few more miles in.

I'm wondering about Single Speed but I think I'm needing to shift too much to make it worth my while.

Cool (for me) this morning, low 50s in NYC. As much as I love the look of a sleek singlespeed (brakes and freewheel for me, please, despite getting passed by a trackstanding Kilo TT), riding the bridges from Brooklyn into Manhattan makes me realize that geared is the way to go--for now, anyway. Put some Michelin City Commuter 1.4s on my hardtail mtb, which is an improvement over the knobbies, but I'm still looking for a decent cargo setup (other than bungeeing my backpack to the rear rack). At least going into fall I'm less sweaty after the ride than I was a few weeks ago!

Today took 8 yr old to dentist. Wanted him to ride his own bike but couldn't get out of the house in time so I popped him on the trail-a-bike.

After getting him to school, could have gone home to switch to fixie but too much hassle. Anyway, nice sunny (but brisk, 42F)

On my way into to work today I noticed that someone who went before me (I'm thinking a fellow bike commuter) swept to the side a big pile of glass from a broken beer bottle that had been thrown in the bike lane. Thank you fellow bicyclist! :love:

I had to take the lane a few times, mainly to make a left hand turn at a stoplight intersection, and people acted as though I were made of glass, they gave me way more than 5 feet clearance. Maybe they thought I was crazy to be in the middle of an intersection on my bike, but it feels safer to me to behave in this way than to try to cross at the crosswalks.

This is my third day commuting into work and I haven't met any jerks yet. Also, as a side note, I just have to say that male Tucsonan bicyclists are very, very nice to look at. :innocent:

Cool and breezy. Met up with my buddy for the first time in about a month. We caught up on our kids' soccer and how much weight we've gained since the last road race.

Practice commute for me today. I interviewed there yesterday afternoon and was pretty much offered the position.

A pretty easy 5½ miles each way in spite of the rather brisk wind.

Also, there's a big construction site around the corner from our house. They're doing a colossal amount of filling/emptying/both, so there's a never ending parade of double dumptrucks entering and exiting; the exit is up by the freeway entrance and doesn't affect me, but they turn left in front of me to enter. The flaggers are very aggressive about stopping traffic as soon as they see trucks coming (usually there are 3-4 of these tandem rigs, they are big and slow enough that they can't all make it through the light they need to in the same cycle, although any one slug of 4 or so of them will get through before the next slug appears, so some amount of traffic flow occurs).

Anyway, the aggressive flagger actually didn't throw the stop sign until I passed him this morning, he waited even though a parade of trucks was in sight. That was a pleasant surprise. I think my son on the trail-a-bike confused him.

Cool but Humid and with a headwind today-- took it easy, filled up the water bottle at KFC. yummy stir fry for lunch. it just doesn't get any better...

Excellent ride in and home today! About 52degrees this morning with a barely noticeable headwind, wind picked up quite a bit this afternoon, up to about 20mph I would guess. Temp only got up to about 65 or so. Made for quite a quick ride home.

mirror on my cycleaware popped off....didn't notice it immediately and it was pitch black so it's lost.

I had another in case that happened. Wish I had that kind of forethought in everything. :)

Wasn't planning on working late but ended up leaving office at 7:45pm and it was dark out there. It was also kinda warm at 18C (66F). Today was the first time I rode in the dark with not very good rear lighting, the batteries were almost done and my light requires a screwdriver to get new batteries installed. I was almost gonna take the train home but had an itch to take the bike. Was a good ride too.

Other then getting cold enough to have to get out long pants it was a nice ride in. Rode my $8 yardsale 84 Fuji Touring III on its first commute. Mostly just putt around the hood on it but was feeling like it would be fun to ride in. Rides nice but a little slop in the cranks and the seat needed adjusting and my little multi tool just didn't have the leverage to loosen the bolt.

Might get around to painting it next week when I am off and put it into regular rotation. Debating riding it again tomorrow or get the LeTour back out. The LeTour is such a sweet rider.

Ride home was excellent with it being 69f. Made good time with a decent tail wind.

Lost my one day old PB Superflash! $25 down the drain! I need good rear lighting but dang if that thing doesn't have a cheap clip on it! Now I have to get another one and get a bolt in clip and see if it'll stay permanently attached! Argh! I'm too poor for this...

It did feel good to crank it up and pedal away from a roadie while on my MTB commuter. Put my head down, got aero and hammered on the way home.

Rode from my job's new site to meet my wife at Trader Joe's in Westfield - something I've done several times before, from my old location. The hills are amazingly scary; I'm gonna get in some real hill training! I ended up riding through Watchung Reservation - pretty but steep and curvy roads.

It was a chilly ride in at 42 F ( 5 C). I wore a light hood, a long sleeve jersey, and my middle set of gloves for those chilly days. Memories of dressing up for winter came flooding back at me, even though I am still in shorts. It's that time of year to start figuring out what works and what doesn't.

Rode the car today. I whimped out. My lil brother in Maine tried but got a flat along route 15. However, he was saved by a fellow motorist and can wait until tonight to fix the flat.

I've ridden every day this week, trying to pull a 5-bagger. Every morning I've tried to talk myself into sleeping in and driving, but I've stuck to it. The weather has been perfect for bike commuting -- sunny with slightly chilly mornings and mild afternoons. I'm trying to get back into form as too many things have gotten in the way of cycling lately, like rain, tropical storms, travel, doctor's appointments, working late, and nagging knee problems that finally are starting to go away.

Some guy with a big, expensive looking video camera recorded me this morning as I crossed Exeter St. on Boylston St. :mad: It looked like one of those cameras they use for local news stories where they go out on location, but i didn't see any news van or anything.

I saw him recording the intersection as I approached it. I slowed to check for cross traffic, and when I rode through the intersection, he followed me with his camera. I do not want to be in your video, sir!
