Warm.
Humid. That is all. |
Colder today. 30F (-1C). I was running a little late and decided to push harder today. I got to work in 40 minutes versus the usual 45-47 minutes.

28 degrees (-2C) at the house this morning, with a layer of frost on just about everything except the road. Wore the thin Balaclava. It was noticeably warmer on the valley floor, about 35 degrees, and I had to open all of the zips on my jacket and pants (J&G uninsulated rain jacket and pants), and pull the balaclava off of my face. I was fine while moving but ROASTED at the few stoplights I encountered this morning. I quickly removed the outer layers when I got to the office, before locking my bike.
|
chilly and drizzly... was fairly wet my the time I made it to the office...
|
Nice relaxed morning. Usually I'm tense herding everybody out of the house and get in half an hour late. Today I just let everybody move at close to their own pace (most especially letting them wake up themselves) and got in an hour late, but I was more at peace with it. Cold, ~36F, blinding sun. just above my forehead pretty much.
|
I chilled out today, didn't take the bike. It was raining, the bike was parked 15 minutes walk away and I didn't fancy using hte car to get there, I was a touch late, and my wife was on the way to the station anyway in the car. So I hitched a ride instead.
Tomorrow, I might also use the train coz I have to go to an art show after work and it'll be raining tomorrow morning. Or I might just htfu by then. |
Boy was it ever cold today! Didn't have the right gear. Just put on a cotton jersey and a polyester jacket for top and track pants. The problem is not the body and legs. But it was my face and hands! I was using my regular cycling gloves that have finger cut-offs. Brrrrr..... coming down hill was very cold. And finally on top of it all.... I forgot my helmet. No wonder my head felt so much airier! hahahah....
|
Colder today, 48 when I started, but broke out the knee warmers and my windjacket and longsleeve jersey so I was fine. Soon I might get out the full finger gloves.
I had to run through about 10 big puddles where people are watering the street for whatever reason. That made me want some fenders after eating spray. Legs were and still are achy and tight after doing squats yesterday in the gym. I'm looking forward to the ride home today though, should be perfect. |
I was almost cold in a t-shirt today! holy moly, it was great.
|
Bright, sunny and cool this morning. Absolutely fantastic!
|
Commute today was great, very nice temp and I remembered to put on my gloves this time! And for lunch, I went on a 10 mile round trip to the city park and had my PB&J by the creek. Pretty idyllic...
|
Raining today. Snow tomorrow. I forgot my lights at home on the other bike (riding El Beato today since I have night class after work). This should be ... interesting. Still debating whether to get studded tires and battle through the -45 winter. If Sixty Fiver can do it...

This week has been a little bit of a challange. I strained my back last Thurs/Fri and am still suffering with stiffness and pain. I could barely get out of bed Monday morning and had to lay on a heating pad just to do so. Standing and sitting were excrutiating and my back even locked up Saturday night. I almost called in sick so that I could thoroughly rest, however, I just took some time off and will take another day of leave this Friday so, I didn't feel comfortable missing another day. I decided to see how walking, showering, etc would feel and, ultimately, decided that riding would be preferable to driving and/or walking to the Metro. I was right. Although I didn't feel great, the ride actually seems to have put my back in a good position, and loosened things up a little. I rode again today, taking it very easy, of course, and my back now feels slightly better, although I noticed some shooting pains going doing the back of each leg. I'm using the heating pad and taking Naproxen as a precaution. I should be able to ride out the week, however, I've got a century on Saturday and am a little worried. I'm taking it easy, as I would have anyway this week, but am worried that I won't feel 100% by Sat. I could bag the ride if I had to and support the wife (she's doing the Metric), but I know I'll feel bad missing the ride, especially with all the riders that are expected. I also suppose that an out of whack back might be the only acceptable excuse that could keep me from riding. I could also give it a shot and get SAG'd (there's a first time for everything). We'll see how tomorrow goes.

Stunning weather for the ride home. Low 50's and cobalt blue skies, with fresh snow on the peaks:

I'm either getting an allergies-related sore throat or I'm coming down with something. My throat is killing me, and it's worse when riding - the wind dries out my throat. I was getting more out of breath riding than I should have, and a little lightheaded. It passed after a few minutes, though. The ride itself was fine.

I had a nice thing happen on the way home today. A trucker in an 18-wheeler pulled up short in the right turn lane at a red light to allow me to cross over from the shoulder to the edge of the through lane. At the intersection in question there is a bike lane marked out for just this purpose and the trucker stopped before the bike lane (he would have been over crossover if he pulled up to the light). I could have easily crossed over in back of him, but it was a nice gesture nonetheless. Afterwards he pulled up to the light and we nodded to each other.

Sporadic rain, then steady, soaked, but at 58 F ( 14 C ) an easy ride. A marked difference from yesterday morning at 38 F ( 3 C).

Wind and rain, but warm, +9C or so. Last weekend we had this month's average rainfall come down in just two days. Today, some more. Wind today was +21m/s, more in gusts. Fortunately it was from the side for most of my commute, but in a couple of places my route took me into the headwind. I was spinning my legs off there, flying along at bugger 12km/h and all. :D
Mon-Tue commutes were far more pleasant IMO. We had +2C in the mornings, but little rain and, more importantly, not nearly as windy as today. --J |
Sprinkles off and on, enough to vacate virtually all the traffiic off the W&OD. Had the trail all to myself for the 25miles barring a handful of joggers. Schweet!

Another chilly morning (30F, -1C). I actually wore less this morning and was more comfortable (Nylon jacket and a base layer). I also loosened the waist band a bit to let the jacket breath a bit more.
I did feel a bit sluggish probably due to the fast ride yesterday. Paul |
Totally kicked ass because my girlfriend rode in with me! Okay so I couldn't hammer all the way there like I usually do, but I was so damn happy that it didn't matter.

today im riding dangerously!!! my tire has a hole, went to the Mechanic with new tires for my wheel, and when he sees them he said: "Dude, why did you buy 17" tires for a 16" rim! come on man!" :o i was so embarased! :o
so he put some mr. tuffy on my old broken tire and put a boot with crazy glue .....:twitchy: he said this should hold up, but i ride on my own risk....:D i like danger....and my GF made me buy a nice helmet, just to be sure i dont die :innocent:;) so i got to work after a 6 mile, very nice day, commute and just noticed the tire is opening up again!!:twitchy: im not sure if i should even try going back on my bike.....i got new tubes with presta and mr. tuffy.... |

Awesome ride in this morning. Bright moon shining with 40 degree weather.
|
Warmer (~42F), pea-soup fog. Need to get another $5 pair of lab safety glasses to keep the condensation off (the outside of) my rx glasses. The pair I had last year is too scuffed up to be any good any more.
No kids, so much faster average speed. |
Really nice- great weather in SF and I just got my wheel back from the shop (broken spokes) so it was good to get back on...
|
32F (0C) and calm on the way in. Nice ride all around. There is extensive road construction within 1/4 mile of my office, where all traffic is funnelled into a single lane each way with concrete barricades within inches of the lane, so I ride the 'trail' (unpaved area where the sidewalk should be, with a well-worn trail) to the office parking lot.

I am starting to sweat again, and I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Today it was 48F, wore undershirt, poloshirt and a windbreaker. Usually the guideline of being cold for the first 1-2 miles is a good indicator for me that I should be dressed ok. (and I take it really slowly in the morning anyway).
