A nice ride in to work at around 50 degrees. It's supposed to rain on and off all day, but it's beautiful right now. I rode right past the guy who almost hit me yesterday...lucky for me, he had already parked this morning!

vtjim 04-21-10 06:39 AM

Mid 40sF. Little bit of a headwind. Didn't see any cyclists going my way, but there were several riding the other way.

Commuting sucks with an upset stomach: too much pizza last night!

ridethatbike 04-21-10 07:51 AM

Great ride yesterday, 23 miles round trip. Pretty chilly in the AM with fingerless gloves (42*), but once I got warmed up it was great. The ride home was terrific, upper-60's and light wind. Finally!

groovestew 04-21-10 08:25 AM

Nice ride in, a bit breezy.

My route goes along one edge of our provincial legislature grounds (the main government buildings of the province). As I approached the area on my way home yesterday afternoon, I saw an unusual amount of pedestrian activity. I wondered what was going on until I almost simultaneously noticed (1) a peculiar scent, and (2) folks wearing T-shirts saying, "Don't Fear the Reefer". Ah yes, 4/20 day.

45F, heavy mist. Trailered 5 yr old in, but my wife is trailering her home so I can stop to give blood.

Is there such a thing? ;) Maybe that's why I spend time in the Clydes forum, though, too? LOL

Good ride in. Managed to dodge the rain for the most part. Started pouring down about 1 minute from the office, so I managed to avoid the worst of it. Not sure how long the rain's gonna stick around... hopefully long enough to wash away a lot of the dust and pollen that's around. Hopefully long enough that my fenders will see some real action! ;) (I enjoy the occasional rainy wet ride.)

drew3 04-21-10 09:39 AM

45F rain. stayed dry all but my hands and feet, but no worries, i wasn't cold. i was more concerned about my brooks saddle getting wet as it's new and i haven't treated it with anything yet. more cyclists out than i thought there'd be. made pretty good time. i did get buzzed by a bmw on a stretch of road where he had plenty of room to go around me much more comfortably. but all things considered a pretty nice ride.

caloso 04-21-10 10:02 AM

Drizzly. But otherwise fine.

tarwheel 04-21-10 02:48 PM

Once again our local weather guys have totally blown the forecast and I'm paying for it. The forecast called for light rain this morning and then clearing off this afternoon. Well, it wasn't raining this morning, so I rode to work. And now, as I'm ready to head home at 4 pm, there is a huge line of thunderstorms quickly approaching from the west. So, I guess I'll nang around work until the storm passes. At least the rain will help clear up the pollen that has been choking us for the past two weeks.

MVclyde 04-21-10 05:55 PM

Quiet this morning. I had the trail to myself. Same going home but it rained the whole way. I don't mind a wet ride going home, but I need fenders. :)

buzzman 04-21-10 06:21 PM

Really good weather still and another nice ride along the river. Great ride home tonight a bit of a headwind.

Rhodabike 04-21-10 06:59 PM

Another unseasonably warm day. Started out with 6ºC, but I didn't put on a jacket as I knew I'd soon warm up. Lots of riders out today. By noon it was up to 23ºC, which is about 73ºF, I think.
Coming out of work, I could see a fellow sitting on the top tube of a familiar looking battered grey "fixie" in the bike rack enclosure. My beloved was out riding around and decided to meet up with me after work to ride home, which was a nice surprise at the end of the day.

BigCircles 04-21-10 08:49 PM

Nice commute today... Very little wind in the morning - and a fairly strong headwind on the return. Still faster than normal in both directions. 38 miles round trip.

fletchh 04-22-10 04:31 AM

Foggy and misty, but the temp was decent at 5 C (42 F). I got soaked yesterday, but I wore less clothes home, so less to get wet. The skin was a little chilled, but not bad once I got going. My shoes dried overnight under a fan, and the panniers seemed to dry pretty well by themselves. it is supposed to be sunny later, and I am looking forward to that. Lots of traffic in the fog this morning, and I had to signal more. It was too early for that.

tarwheel 04-22-10 05:59 AM

First day in weeks with no pollen in the air after we finally got a bunch of rain yesterday. The temps were cool (mid-40s F) and my legs felt great, so I was cruising along to work this morning thinking I would make great time. Not. Caught every freakin' red light on my route. I've come to point where I just expect the red lights and they don't normally bother me, but today they were all turning red at the last second, so I had to wait the full light cycle. Oh well, I shouldn't complain because the weather was nice and there was no pollen for a change.

vtjim 04-22-10 06:02 AM

44F with hazy early morning sun. No wind. Reeled in a guy who was so orange, I could see him a quarter mile ahead and I needed to shield my eyes. :p I slowed down to a walking speed and watched some Canada geese near a marsh. It made me think I need to to kayaking soon.

I was up too late last night. The Rochefort 10 I had at 10:30PM probably wasn't such a good idea. :o Still, I was fairly quick this morning.

2su 04-22-10 07:53 AM

it was a decent ride today... I've been so lazy this week in the morning. Not pushing too hard.

I got a finger wag from some old lady... to be fair I was breaking the law at the time.

groovestew 04-22-10 08:54 AM

8C this morning, with a bit of a wind from the northwest. Slowed me down when I was heading north, but gave me a bit of a boost when heading east. Ideally, the wind will shift a bit to the northeast for my ride home, and it'll push me the whole way.

Yesterday on the way home, I got involved in a little silly commuter race with some guy who looked about 10 years older and 50 pounds heavier than me. Looked like easy pickings to me, but holy crap was he ever fast, and at a slow cadence, too! I finally got near him when he got slowed by some pedestrians on a MUT, and that's when I noticed the huge rear hub, the tell-tale sign of an electric-assist bicycle. I didn't feel so bad then. Our paths diverged, and I thought I saw the last of him.

15 minutes later, we met up again at a traffic light. I guess we took two different routes to arrive at the same point. At that point, it was straight road for about a mile before my next turn. The light turned green, and I took off as fast as I could. I don't have a speedometer on that bike, so I don't know exactly how fast I was going, but I figure it was at least 30 km/h. A few blocks down the road, and I see electric bike buddy out of the corner of my eye...my right eye...he was about to pass me on the sidewalk. 30+km/h on a sidewalk. Well, he had to slow down to get around a vehicle pulling out of a driveway, and he hopped on the road at that point and chased me down to the next lights. I thought about lecturing him on the perils of sidewalk riding at fast speeds, but I think perhaps he had already learned. My turn was a block away, so our paths diverged again, and that was that.

HardyWeinberg 04-22-10 09:36 AM

45F and sunny. Supposed to push 60F today.

caloso 04-22-10 10:19 AM

Rode the race bike with a jersey and bibs in my pack, hoping to make the Thursday Night World Championships after work tonight. High overcast and a pleasant breeze. Looks like it may be perfect for this afternoon.

EKW in DC 04-22-10 02:50 PM

Loved the ride home yesterday. It was raining, but they cleared off the MUP in a big way. Only dedicated cyclists, cycle commuters, and runners were out. Nice to have a little space.

Got back an hour or so ago from lunch with my wife. Just about got right hooked by a contractor/delivery van on the way there. If I hadn't been running late to meet my wife, I would have chased the van and gotten some identifying marks, plate no., etc., and called his company (whose name was plastered all over the van).

Ride to work was nice. I realized this morning after I got in that in about two weeks, I'll pass the 1,000 miles commuting mark for the year so far. That has me happy. Back on track for 3,000 miles commuting for the year despite the bad winter weather. :)

buzzman 04-22-10 11:33 PM

Wonderful bike path rides in and back. Plus a mid-day location change and back to the office for the downtown commute. Then home and shopping on the bike. had a cool exchange with another rider as I rode through back streets at night from the grocery store. The rider gave a kind of last minute salute, which I think he was sure I didn't see. I gave a ding of my bell as I rounded the corner out of sight and as I rode on I heard a dingle, dingle ding in response.

vtjim 04-23-10 06:18 AM

High 30sF & sunny, no wind. Lots of birds. Things are turning green pretty quickly. Oh, and the tiny bugs are out, flying in swarms over the MUP. Pity the mouth-breathers. :p

I saw 3 cute young women on road bikes going the other way. We exchanged smiles and hellos. They weren't going too fast. One seemed to give me the once over. :o

stringbreaker 04-23-10 06:24 AM

Fabulous this morning. New bike is performing so much better since I adjusted the front wheel bearings and the headset. The factory had too much preload on the bearings. Oddly enough. the real wheel was fine. Kinda hoping to get caught in a few showers this afternoon

EKW in DC 04-23-10 08:30 AM

Another beautiful ride in this morning. Bit of a headwind, but as long as it keeps blowing the same way, you know what that means... tailwind heading home! :thumb:

Whatever is causing the noise coming from my bottom bracket seems to be getting worse. I may have to actually break down and go get it checked out/replaced soon.

sseaman 04-23-10 08:37 AM

Wonderful ride in, temps in mid 50's and sunny, and was able to talk with a few other commuters on the way. I also found out that spd cleats will kinda work with Look style pedals. DOH!

It may just need to be tightened up.

groovestew 04-23-10 08:43 AM

Last night, a cold, nasty wind to battle most of the way home. At a traffic light, a bearded cycle commuter pulled up beside me and said, "It's not going to be a nice ride home" and I heartily agreed.

Back to seasonal temperatures this morning (4C) after some incredibly nice days. Wet, but the rain had stopped before I set out. Felt slow today, but still made decent time.

HardyWeinberg 04-23-10 09:50 AM

40F, sunny
