I had the same thing happen to me this past spring. Although, the wallet did pop out on to the road. Fortunately, I had only gone 50 ft or so before I realized it was gone. I got off my bike and walked in the dark against traffic, and found it in the gutter.

Good ride in today, and I dressed for chilly, beacause it was at 40 F ( 4 C), but it was humid and rain is coming, so it was a warm ride. Yep, I can't give up my shorts either, at least until my knees start complaining, then I will listen.

39F with a light headwind. I've felt slow all week. I don't know what my deal is. Tires are inflated. I spin them off the ground and they're not dragging. 14-15MPH is about all I can comfortably handle, and I usually do 18-20 for the same effort. I'm wondering if it's the cold on my legs. Never bothered me before though.

Yesterday I had a bizarre interaction with a cager. He was trying to be nice but it was pretty funny. I was at a red light at a "T" intersection (must turn). I was turning left, so I was way over near the center line. Cager pulls up behind me and stops, but he's at an angle. Then he pulls up on my right (loads of room, no problem) and stops. I start wondering if he's going to try the left turn with me, so my guard is up. He says to me, "Excuse me." I look over at him. "I'm going to turn right." I said, "Uh, well I'm heading left, so, go for it!"

Some of them really have no idea how to deal with cyclists, do they?

nice morning 38f calm and cool, woke up late again so i rode a little quicker that norm.

Coming down Oakridge while it was still dark, a driver coming the opposite way wanted to turn left into their driveway. They STOPPED, SIGNALED, and waited for me to pass before turing!

So it was drizzling this morning, but the forecast was for clearing during the afternoon and evening. Perfect time to test out the water repellent office pants I bought last spring. Rode to work and and all the water had beaded up and pretty much fell right off once I got off the bike, leaving me dry underneath. Now I just gotta find some newspaper to stuff my shoes w/ so they'll be dry for the ride home.

46F no wind, no rain, no jerks. Fingers got cold downhill before I warmed up. Don't know whether to wear gloves or toughen up.

Lately all my commutes have been on two wheels. Three days motorcycle, two days bicycle. The forcast for today was 100% rain, however, in the morning, it wasn't raining.. Sheesh, I grabbed my 78 Raleigh Competition I off I went. The 4 mile ride to the subway was awesome. Some kind of way, the Raleigh seemed perfect in everyway. Every rotation of the pedals was pure joy.. Got off the subway, 2 stops in front of my stop so I could ride a couple miles. Awesome..I ate breakfast downtown with my bike locked, but in FULL VIEW!! Finally at work..

Only thing, it has started raining big time. No problem, the Raleigh will STAY at work and I will either catch a ride, or ride the subway without the bike. Everybody on my job told me I was crazy to come out on the bike knowing it was going to rain. I told them, on the contrary, I loved every second of the ride. Right now, I am preparing a nice spot in my work cubical for my Raleigh, don't want it to feel uncomfortable not being home tonight... :D..

At 70 years old, I will tell you, life is dam sweet!! ;)

Had a doctor's appt this AM and had to go to the pharmacy, so I ended up not leaving for work until after lunch. Still raining pretty hard, though not as bad as it had been earlier, temp in the 50s. I started thinking to myself about five miles in that it was a little surprising I hadn't seen anyone else on a bike yet. Yes, it was raining and yes it was 1:30 PM, but... jus then, two cyclists were going the other way on the MUP. Other than them, I saw no one on my commute in.

Home by car with my wife after a concert tonight and then metro in tomorrow AM. Sad that my bike will be here all alone and I won't get to ride it until I go home tomorrow. :cry:

Long weekend planned w/ a couple days off next week and a trip to Chicago Sat-Tues. Hope to rent bikes on the Lakefront and do a little riding for an hour or two with my (non-cyclist) wife while there. Weather's supposed to be primo! :)

The commute home yesterday was another exercise in frustration as every time I get within 20 ft of a crosswalk, they all insist on stopping and plugging up traffic. This didn't happen in the summer! Something about School starting up seems to have screwed up traffic.

My wife had the early morning shift and took the car today. That left me on the buses taking my son to daycare and then biking in from there. I can't believe how much he begged me to let him ride his TAB. "Daddyyyyyy, I'll put on my warm jacket and zip it ALL the way up!", "Daddyyyyy, I'll put on warm pants and gloves!" Time to spend the money on the fender for the TAB. 3 buses and 40 minutes later (to travel all of 5 km) I dropped my son off and headed to work. By the time I got to Burnaby Mountain I was definitely over dressed.

46F with a steady rain. (Nor'easter!) In the six miles between my house and downtown Burlington, I saw one car, one runner, and one pedestrian. I love those kinds of commutes. Solitude!

I got an old Genesis song (Mad Man Moon) stuck in my head and started singing it. :p Now I'm listening to the album. (Trick of the Tail)

Headwind this am! Ugh...Not what I needed on a Friday...added about 8 minutes over my 17 mile route. It's dark for the whole commute these mornings...The beans and corn are disappearing fast...44 degrees so I was a tad warm in my long pants....usually stick with shorts down to 40. Ah well, It's all good!

I'm still feeling lingering effects of a cold, but it was too nice to skip the ride. 52 and bright skies! Not too many people on the trail today. A shoutout to the person who clearly marked the divet in the Capital Crescent Trail with yellow circles and a big X. I usually hit that bone-jarring hole about 1 out of every 3 rides. Now I can see it clearly. Thank you!

It was COLD!
It was also one of those days that I just wanted to enjoy my ride, so I took it slow. When I arrived at the office, I had barely any sweat on me. I can't wait for the ride home.

Temps were around 55F this morning, slight North wind... I actually had to break out the jacket. I was sweating buckets by the time I got to work, even taking it easy. Bike is working great, no complaints! Loving my decision to commute. It's going on 2 months for me!

5C/41F, a little cloudy and breezy, but the wind was at my back for part of my ride at least.

Didn't ride yesterday; today I turned into a residential area that I always ride through to discover that the road had been completely resurfaced in my day off! :thumb:

43F and gray. Went up a tire size and down a tooth in gearing out of acknowledgment to the season.

Nice on the ride in. On the ride back a 45kph gusting to 70kph wind. My route was alternating me between a head wind and cross wind. The cross wind gust had be wobbling a few times. The wind only slowed me down to a trip average speed of 20kph from my typical of around 25-26kph.

For a bit of fun at the end I rode up wind past the house a few blocks to see what it would be like going with the wind. I got up to 52kph on a flat stretch of road and could have kept on accelerating, but decide to brake when I got back to the house. Going with the wind I could probably maintain 45kph+ with little effort. I think the wind speed had picked up by the end of the ride.

Wind in Regina? I can't believe it.

Whoa. Nothing like 30+ MPH (50KPH) gusts and a driving rain in my face to add some spice to the commute! Bike computer was hovering around 40F/4C the whole time.

I cleared two trees from the MUP. One trunk (already dead) had fallen and shattered into three pieces so I tossed them aside. Shortly after that, I came upon a more developed (but also already dead) tree that required some muscle to shove out of the way, but I got it. One part of the MUP was indiscernible from a forest floor. It was covered with leaves and sticks. There is debris everywhere. Sticks and small branches. The wind is still howling out of the north.

I also moved a neighbor's plastic chair back toward their house because it was about to blow into the street.

Got home and The Wife met me with (not in, alas) a beach towel. :) I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt so_ No I'm just kidding I was kitted for rain. :P

Perfect crisp, dry, cool autumn morning. Dark all the way to work. I think riding in these conditions, with just the pale glow of my light on the road in front, and hardly any cars moving in suburbia, might be the kind of riding I enjoy the most.

Hands got a little numb for the first time this winter, but it was a pleasant numbness. Almost hit a raccoon.

Terrific, the best one yet. The chilly morning air made me feel alive. Everything was beautiful.

A big fat lorry got stuck behind me at one point though, tried to overtake a few times only to find oncoming traffic. Always fun, a roaring engine only yards behind you and your tiny fragile bike.

Looking forward to riding home in ... 7 minutes... in some 57F sunshine.

Another awesome week of commuting. One more and it'll be a solid month for me. Crisp and cool in DC. Riding through Transformers 3 filming on the Mall all week.

Horrible ride this morning, missed work yesterday couldn't afford to miss today so i trudged on. Got about 4 hours of sleep woke up with 100f temp. rode on in anyways, every bump was hell but i made, now that im here at work im wondering why i even came in. :(

First 53km on my new wheels: Fulcrum Racing 7's.

During the ride in I was scared something would break or tear, there's so few spokes in the wheels... Having arrived at work I had a look at my tires, they dont pop into place perfectly in the rim, so while riding it feels like there's a very minor bump in the rim. I've pushed my thumbs to sh***s against the tires, but they just won't pop into place. So I decided to leave it with that for today.

During the ride back I got a bit more confident. Decided to go down a bridge at a higher pace. Managed to bring it up to 40km/h and felt pretty good. Even though the tires aren't perfectly fit, the bike's as stable as a train on its tracks. The hubs of these wheels seem to have lots less resistance than the Tiagra hubs on my 'old' wheels. And even better, I am able to get rid of the bell. All I need to do is stop pedalling and everybody within 10 meters distance away from me hears the rattling of the Fulcrum Racing 7's rear hub. Awesome... It's like Campagnolo pr0n on a Shimano bike :innocent:

So basically, even though I had a 'bumpy' ride, my ride was very good today. The word awesome pops into mind ;) Especially the ride back home was fast, and gave me some more confidence in the wheels. I totally lost my confidence in my old wheels (Mavic CXP with Tiagra hubs) as one of the rear wheel's spokes started cracking the rim and pulling through. Falls within warranty though, so I will have an extra set of wheels soon, that's a pro.

Today my ride got fun again :)

Feeling much better this morning:) Nice ride in high 30's no wind no cars to speak of, no complaints.

Back after 3 days off, and a very nice weekend riding on the Eastern shore, and stopping at a wine festival, of course. I found some other areas that I need to explore more.

Easy ride in at 42 F ( 5 C). It is supposed to reach the lower 70s F (Lower 20s C), but then back to chilly weather for the rest of the week.
