Nice weather for riding today, overcast and cool. Too bad I caught my son's cold yesterday! Took it easy on the ride in for once.

Back from a few days of camping around the top of the Chesapeake. Easy ride in, but with the cloudy skies for a minute the morning darkness returned. We are only about a month past the longest day, and already the dread of cold dark mornings struck me.

Little humid this morning but not so bad.
I have 3 bikes in rotation. Two with fenders. Weather man say no rain all week so I take the light fast no fender bike.
So five minutes before time to clock out we have a down pour that wets the roads but does not drop the temp so the humidity goes to Bazillion % off the asphalt in the 95f afternoon heat. I'm sucking my own tire spray off the front tire the whole way home! LOL
As lucky as I have been with the rain the last coupled years I was overdue.

It continues to be a good ride in. I have managed to miss all the storms so far, but I don't mind getting wet in the summer time. As long as there is no lightening, I can swish along.

Lot of commuters reporting "dead legs" lately. I joined the crowd this morning. I expected to feel great because I got more sleep last night, but legs felt like bricks this morning. My morning commute took about 3 minutes longer than usual. Must be the heat and humidity, although the wind is another factor. Stiff headwind all the way to work.

A very humid morning right around 80 degrees, I had to drop my average mph by a mile or 2 to keep from pouring sweat. It should be good and hot is afternoon.

On the subject of dead legs, my legs (and glutes) were feeling pretty dead on Monday (rode 100km on Saturday) so I took yesterday off from cycling and rode the bus instead. It's good to ride the bus now and then to remind myself why I (strongly) prefer cycling.
Today I felt much better. Had a nice fast ride in. Sunny and cool (10C), no wind. About the most interesting thing that happened this morning was in the shower room at the gym after the commute. Some old guy grabbed my towel off the wall instead of his and started drying himself. "Excuse me sir, that's my towel." "Oh! so it is."

I missed yesterday, too, like groovestew, mine b/c I needed to be more dressed up after work than at it (office function for my wife's workplace), so had to suck it up and metro. Pretty tolerable day as far as metro commuting goes, but I sure missed riding my bike.
This morning I was back in the saddle and relishing it. Nice ride in, if hot, though it doesn't look like it's getting any better any time soon, so I'm reconciling myself to the fact that morning commutes with temps in the 80s and dewpoints over 70 are something I'll just have to deal with.
Thank goodness for the showers at work!!!
Edit: I want to go on the record as wanting to move to south Puget Sound. 50F and foggy sounds DELIGHTFUL!!!!!!!!!!

It's really cooled down. 60F and windy -- the Delta Breeze usually dies down around 4 or 4:30 but for the last few nights it's continued all morning. I was early today so I stopped at the LCS (local coffee shop) and found this guy near the door:

We went from September to a couple weeks ago below 70F ( week or so in single digits in early Dec). Cracking 75 was like a big party, then it started raining again.
Really, August should be very nice (fingers crossed).

Right after the 4th of July it became summer instead of fall, thank goodness. I was getting tired of putting all those layers on again and again...loving this weather though. 70s during the day and 50s in the a.m. A little chilly and damp but no wind!
I've been making record breaking time to work and amazingly long rides home. Funny how some nice weather slows me down.
It may be raining tomorrow morning and I'm not sure how I feel about that yet. The high is only supposed to be maybe 70.

The dog days of summer are here!
I have a new set of wheels I bought from REI a few weeks back to replace a wheel that was all of a sudden breaking spokes that was also a REI purchase.
The Bike guy at the Perimiter store was cool and gave me credit to the new wheels but after commenting that I'm a big fat guy (he was a LOT more tactful LOL ) that he really wanted me to bring the wheels back in at 100-150 miles to check the tension to keep the warranty. I was going to try to swing by the store close to my office on the way home since I really do not get over to the area of that store often.
At the last second I decided to do it another day and BOY was that a good choice. I got about a 1/2 mile into the ride home and look south towards where the store is and saw some dark clouds. 5 minutes later that thing went from dark cloud to full blown thunder storm! I made record time running from that cloud the whole way home LOL. If I had gone to the REI that think would have been on top of me before I made it. Lasted about an hour and would have been too dangerous with the lightning to have headed home.
On the road tomorrow doing delivery's so I may drive in so I am not all sweaty.

It was a good ride in, but lots of traffic this morning, so not sure what that is all about. Yesterday, in one of the regional papers it was reported that a highway engineer was going to get on a bike and check out the roads and paths in Columbia, MD. I posted on a related facebook page that if she is out between 5am and 6am in the morning, I am the one with all the lights.

The heat index was 110 during my commute home yesterday. Needless to say, I took it easy. Going slow will get you through some tough conditions, and I actually felt pretty good by the time I got home. It's supposed to be even hotter today with a high temp near 100 F and heat index around 110 or higher. The humidity is what is making it so bad right now. Even on my morning commute at 6:30 am, I am drenched in sweat by the time I get to work.

Comfortable this morning. Mid 60sF. Lots & lots of riders going the other way. It seems to be a trend lately.
I saw a big rabbit sitting in the middle of a quiet street.
It's 8:30AM and I'm craving pizza.

Decent ride in today. Didn't push myself too hard, but still made really good time. 13C and sunny, a hint of wind. This will be my last day cycle-commuting this week. I've got a 185km ride on Sunday, and want to give my legs a couple days off beforehand. Time to start carb loading!

I did pretty good this morning considering the cold I have. Very easy ride in in time to catch the tail end of the TdF.

"Weight of a Nation"
Go Ryder!
I have a soft spot in my heart for things Canadian, and I tend to root hardest for Garmin as a team for no particular reason...
Now just don't give away anything about the results. I'm a day behind in the action and am enjoying the Tour through the modern miracle known as DVR. Only problem is I need to steer clear of any Tour-related news lest I have the surprise spoiled.
