Nice ride in today... an useasonably cool 61F. For July in So.MD that is weird. The horses, cows, llamas, and minature donkeys that I pass on the way to work all looked quite comfortable!

Upper 50sF again today. Comfortable. Pavement was damp, and I saw some bicycle tracks. Wound up reeling in 3 separate riders.

Also there were some pretty girls out running. :thumb:

uneventful....but my legs felt like lead this morning.

jpdesjar 07-09-09 08:02 AM

My legs felt a little tired this morning as well but the weather was right so I still the longer route. I think my cog is wearing down again, I have been riding this one since January. It may be time to switch from a 19t to a 17t giving me a 48x17, and I need a new rear tire as well.
I am hungrier than usual this morning.

canyoneagle 07-09-09 08:21 AM

Surprisingly chilly this morning, 56F (14C) with a steady wind from the mountains at the house, few degrees warmer and calm in the valley. It is supposed to be nice this afternoon, too, mid 80's and sunny.
Summer will return this weekend, though, we may break 100. Fortunately, I have no plans to ride this weekend if I ride tomorrow (it will be my first week with four consecutive days since my return to the bike).

caloso 07-09-09 10:38 AM

Last week I changed the gearing on my fixed gear to 52x16 with the idea that I'd race it Merckx-style in the local TT series. Feels great once I get it going, but it's just brutal for the start and stop commute.

Maybe I'll get a chance to get out on the open road this afternoon...

making 07-09-09 10:44 AM

I wussed today becasue my legs felt like MV's er lead, I had no idea it was suppose to rain. I dont even listen to the weather idiots anymore. It would have started raining just after I got here if I had rode. Couple of the other commuters stopped by to raze me because my bike is not here. At first I told them my legs were just tired, they did not beleive me. Whatever.

Doohickie 07-09-09 10:55 AM

Gah. For the first time in I don't know when, I drove every day this week (and have tomorrow off). I'm such a slug. Hopefully the issues that kept me off the bike this week will be resolved by next week.

Ka_Jun 07-09-09 11:01 AM

Saw 8 other commuters, got dropped by a lady on a road bike w/ toe clips, an old Trek. Nice ride, no complaints.

sk8rdi16 07-09-09 11:30 AM

Great uneventful ride this AM. Wish I had something to look at besides nasty 4 lane highway.

lancerevil 07-09-09 12:10 PM

First time riding the bike to work today....it was actually calm. (granted it was 430am) 6 miles not bad at all.

NABRXX 07-09-09 12:59 PM

Sweet riding through the westchester parks at 5am for the first 5 mile leg of my ride, when I hit Bronx river road I could open up my stride a bit. Got to my Gunhill rd Bronx crossing...tough climbing but a good warmup for the last 12 miles or so into manhattan...My third day of a 50 mile round trip commute...this could become habit forming...:)

joninkrakow 07-09-09 01:26 PM

Strange day today. First off, horrible head wind on the way to work. That just underscored the need to get my drops onto my bike (complicated by the hydraulic disk brakes). I was quite exhausted after I got to work, and my brain didn't function too well this morning (asthma). On the way home, I raced the rain, and lost just after the last spot with some shelter. Not that it was a big deal or anything (who wants to wait a half hour for a storm to pass over), and I enjoyed the cool rain that drenched me. ;-) I _don't_ like rain in the early spring or late fall, but summer rains are nice. This week, I've gotten two days it--a first for a long time. It's been a frustrating year--after I spent several hundred on a new bike, even. ;-)

Another fine day. Traffic a bit heavier then yesterday. Still on the road bike, avg speed 16.1 this morning. about 2 mph over the commuter.

fletchh 07-10-09 04:36 AM

It was a good ride in, 58 F (14 C). Only one issue this morning, I wanted to make a left going up a hill, so I was cycling to the right, until I could figure out what the two cars behind me were going to do. One went left, which meant I could file behind it, but the second car, which was going to make a right hung out behind me and wouldn't pass, and I was not about to cross in front of it, so I pulled over and waived the car on, it went right, I went left and order was restored.

making 07-10-09 04:44 AM

Glad I took yesterday off. My legs feel great today. Fastest ride in a long time too. Beautiful morning. Great ride but one odd event. Just before the extremely dangerous rail road tracks this morning about 0500, nothing was moving hardly except me and a brown van on a parallel street I could see across the tracks. The van stopped and the passenger door opened. It is still dark but they were under a street light. This girl gets out of the van in what appears to be a bra and some kinda panties or something, neither of which appear to fit, and calmly walk into the apt. Seemed weird. Maybe she woke up and could not find her clothes?

jharte 07-10-09 05:16 AM

Bwahahahahahahaha. I watched the weather this morning to see a thunderstorm to the North and East of my route. The clouds were moving away from the city. I got just a little over 1/2 way to work and...RAIN!

Super nice, cooler ride this morning.

My ride today was AWESOME!!!

The weather was warm enough that I broke a good sweat, but comfortable enough to make the ride in pretty bareable, even when I forgot to refill my bottle before leaving.

If it weren't for cars this would be a great commute every day! LOL. 24 minutes of wheel spinning action, about 5 minutes of waiting for stop lights. They just need bike paths EVERYWHERE!

I just drove my Jeep when I felt like that. What does that make me?:o

5 for 5 this week. What beautiful weather!

A little girl! :p

Odd. My legs felt like lead this morning, too. Luckily I reeled in some guy on an MTB and he was cruising around 13-14MPH so I stayed back a bit and let him pace me. Was a real easy commute. Nobody reeled us in, either. Bonus.

High 50sF. Sunny. Friday. :thumb:

jpdesjar 07-10-09 07:16 AM

Today was tops and the afternoon ride should be glorious as well.
I took the longer way to work which is about 8 miles.

I was really spinning on the last hill and worked up a good sweat.

Zipster90 07-10-09 08:10 AM

HOT HOT HOT!! It was already in the high 80's and humid when I left for work at ten 'til 8. Should be 104 in time for the ride home.

canyoneagle 07-10-09 08:27 AM

Nice and cool this morning, pretty uneventful. fourth consecutive day this week - gonna go for 5 out of 5 next week. WooT!

I had a pretty close call yesterday on the way home. I was on my normal cruise eastward across the valley on a very well-marked bike friendly avenue, just south of the urban core. I was in a warehouse area with relatively sparse traffic, cruising along at 23 mph. Two cars were in the turn lane on the (coming from the opposite direction), waiting to turn onto a dead-end street (to my right). the avenue had no traffic controls at all - the cross street was a minor alley with stop signs. Anyway, I was in the intersection when the first car zoomed right in front of me, followed by the SECOND car! I missed the guy's rear quarter panel by about a foot. YIKES! I yelled "HEY!!!" into his open window, and as I looked back I could see him hit his brakes, flip me off and yell something unintelligible back at me. GEEZ! I didn't pursue it, because ya just don't know who's packin' these days, and this guy was a wiry rednecky type of guy. I'm sure he will be in a starring role in "cops" one day, if he hasn't already
Anyway, I brushed it off and had a great ride the rest of the way home.

Cold Cold Cold, 3C (38F?) on the thermometer at home when I left. That's freaking cold for July.

LongLakeJ 07-10-09 09:43 AM

Right about 70F this morning - glorious! As a bonus, a couple semis actually gave me a wide berth. :thumb:

HardyWeinberg 07-10-09 10:01 AM

Nice and sunny. High 50s. Left my repair kit and pump w/ my 8 yr old's daycamp, they're going on a 12 mile bike ride today and are not very thoroughly equipped...

ModoVincere 07-10-09 10:05 AM

drove in this morning....wish I hadn't as the car promptly broke down and I had to spend 2 hours in the shop. :(
