pleasant commute this morning...saw 4 other bike commuters too, one of them was wearing formal attire...he looked like james bond

it's sunny and bright today and the ride home should be lovely as well

Mine will be damp and a bit cool in a few minutes; the morning coastal fog that is part our typical summer weather pattern is here a bit early this year.

Nice and cool to start. decided to take the shady rail-trail--a longer ride but more pleasant. warmed up pretty quickly on the road, though. 40 minutes from Northampton, MA to Amherst, mostly uphill. 2 squirrels were kind enough to give me right of way, at the last second, of course.

I'm trying to really enjoy my commutes even more than usual because i was diagnosed with a "kneecap problem" of unknown severity (probably not too severe) due to overuse. yesterday i went to the orthopedic surgeon. my x-rays show improvement in the position of my kneecap, and good space between everything, meaning there's cartilage there, anyway. i'll be getting shots of cartilage, and a small dose of cortizone, like 1/10th the usual dose. i've been in PT and all to try to improve my chances of recovery, and so far so good. lots of stretching, pilates ball stuff, etc. and i need to keep myself from wanting to go as fast as i can! that's the hard part...

Oh wait, maybe I didn't...
It must have been going around, because my legs just didn't have any energy this morning either. Yesterday I went up the final hill on campus in my 3rd or 4th cog; this morning I was in my 1st (lowest).

45F I was racing the ominous clouds to work and beat them, but not sure how the day is going to shape up from here on.

must have been the cool weather this morning. even here in Atlanta it was 49-50 degrees. I too was a little sluggish out there. Otherwise it was a beautiful predawn/sunrise ride. Venus/Moon/Mars were up in a crystal clear sky. can't compete with that fog picture someone posted above but the sky was quite the sight.

Flew to work today. I left the with a slow ride in mind ...and apparently changed my mind along the way; I logged my best time yet. Cool, Rainy, wind at my back (going). Brutal headwind coming home (30 knots). I stayed in town (between the buildings) as much as possible and avoided areas that allowed a lot of wind generation. As usual no other commuters on my route.
I think that I've got the bike setup like I want it. After a few new items I'm going to have to get some hybrid tires ( I may have said the before...)
Can anyone suggest some good, durable MTB shorts for the coming hot weather?

My wife had an early meeting today so I rode the kids to pre-school--my daughter on the trailerbike, my son on his little BMX. A wonderful way to start the day.

I never see any other commuters... I saw someone else on a bike today. He was kinda just hanging out in the middle of the intersection. I said hey as I passed him but he just kind stared. Maybe b/c I was heading into oncoming traffic that had a green light Sure beats coffee or red bull. Oncoming traffic dodgeyness'll wake ya up everytime

We are currently on our second day of a Noreaster that is forecast to last a least another day. Rain and gale force winds. I get to work pretty fast but coming home is slow.

Rode all the way in to the office today--20 miles--instead of hopping on the subway. No one's around so no need to change clothes; I'm just here to grade exams between spring semester and summer term. I rode with a hrm for the first time. Apparently my heart kept beating all the way to work. I'll learn what else it (Forerunner 305) can do later. Had to maneuver around a brain-farting driver who had gotten 7/8 of the way through a wide intersection (Riverside & Los Feliz) when the light turned red and she decided she shouldn't go any farther, leaving her parked athwart two lanes of traffic trying to go south on Riverside.

I didn't feel like bike commuting today after two rough days with sore legs and stiff headwinds. However, the forecast was for beautiful weather so I dutifully pedaled on my way. Ended up having a great ride to work with a strong tailwind for a change. Still caught nearly every red light on my route, a curse that has afflicted me lately. Had one scary incident. At the one green light I caught, which is at the bottom of a hill, a woman driving a Dodge minivan totally blew the red light -- I mean like 20 seconds after the light had turned red on her side -- and almost t-boned a school bus. If I had been 5-10 seconds faster, she might have crushed me. Now that was scary because it obviously wasn't a case of someone simply trying to beat a yellow light. She totally missed the red light even though all the other cars were stopped and a school bus was pulling into the intersection. Some people are just idiots.

Chilly, but very pleasant. Ran a red light right in front of a cop - he had pulled someone over. I stopped at the red and when it didn't change for me, after ~ 30 seconds, I treated it as a stop sign. Cop didn't even notice it.
Considering doing the RTP ride of silence tonight, though the timing of it will mess up my evening quite a bit....Might just skip it and go home too...I guess I'll decide at ~ 4:00

glad she didn't kill anyone...I wonder what got her so distracted ... Cell phone, text messaging, or trying to eat or drink.... Hopefully she wasn't so oblivious that she didn't notice she ran the light and nearly got herself killed.

Pretty quick this morning. Light tailwind. Temps in the low 50sF. Saw a couple of cyclists.

I need to wash my bike.

It's cold. Too cold. Global warming has been debunked. Yes, my personal observation of one week's worth of weather do in fact override decades of peer reviewed scientific data.

That said the ride was still good.

Oh hey and another thing; I took a different road this morning. I don't know why it never occurred to me before to take it. It's not out of my way and it cuts out one of the worst parts of my commute. Anyway, on that road is a Hare Krishna temple, I thought that was funny but then i have a bad sense of humour.

Hey Pig_Chaser, sorry to here about your continued cold weather but that pretty much is what Global Warming is all about, extremes. Too cold, too hot, too windy, too wet, too dry, very little moderation. But thanks for doing your part by riding your bike.

Life here in southern Ontario is a bit better today, only the second time in this year for my ride in without tights or leg warmers just white hairy legs.

Really cold (to me) out at 6am and it took awhile to get my heart & lungs to follow my legs. This afternoon's ride home will make it 454 miles since last Monday (woohoo!). Never thought I'd get back to riding this much, but dang is it fun.

I brought out my 21 year old hybrid bike, and it was a chilly start 40 F (4 C). It will take a couple rides to get used to the gears, which are less granular than the mtb. I also need to raise the seat a touch, and that should do it. I like going down hill and still having pedal. Some day I need to replace both bikes with bikes that have suspension, but then again maybe not. It should be a warmer ride home, somewhere in the 70s F ( 20's C).
