Inexpensive, simple, commuter bike thread
How about we use this thread to post our finds for new, inexpensive bikes that already include some of the nice-to-have things for commuting (racks, fenders, etc.) Under $700 perhaps?
Funny, a couple of years ago new bikes like these were hard to find in the US. Just goes to show that perhaps there is a market for more than just sport/racing bikes. ;) |

This bike is basically the same one I bought a year ago, but with a different name. The Megarange cassette is awesome in a commuter.

I don't care what brand a bike is or who sells it...if it works it works. |

Huffy Commuter $149.99 Out of curiousity, I wonder how many folks started commuting after coming here? |
It's really lovely to see the proliferation of useful bikes. I was in the bike business from 1978 through 1984, and it was nearly impossible to buy these. You had to buy a road bike and change a whole lot of parts.
I'm guessing these bikes come with pedals and kickstands, too. |

Last time I took Cheri bike shopping, I test rode a folder just for the heck of it. She started laughing so hard she about fell on the floor. She said all she could picture was me riding that bike in either a Shriner's hat or a clown outfit. :o
|
My wife says I look like a circus bear riding my foldies but happily takes my best foldie when I ride with her on weekends.
:D These days I look like a circus bear with a yellow hi-vis vest and a mirror-mounted helmet. It is not a pretty sight but I loves me foldies! Hahaha! |
