SPINOFF: yelling from the car.
A spinoff from Wolfchild's "what if somebody called you a such and such."
Would any of you tolerate your driver or passenger(s) belittling/having-issue-with a cyclist (or any other road user) without cause?

I've never had anyone in my car, or in their car with me, where this was an issue. BTW, like the Anti- Monkey Butt avatar!!!

I'd punch them straight in the face for the cyclist even if it meant crashing to my death (if i was the passenger).
I'd crash into a tree to show the passenger to shut up (if i was the driver).
Honestly never has happened to me i'd probably just tell them to stop. I don't hang out with the type of people who would do that though.
I would not tolerate that.

If the passenger is a moron, more than likely the driver is, too. I've been screamed at by passengers many times - and I can't remember an instance where it seemed that the driver was trying to rein in his idiotic buddy's (or buddette's) behavior.
Thus I'm comfortable with assuming that the entire carload is moronic in nature... There is a pack mentality involved, I believe. I rarely get harassed by single-occupant vehicles. Mostly it is a car-full of bored teens looking for a reaction.
Wearing lycra really sets them off.

Some people I ride with (teens) get seriously pissed at people driving at or just under the speed limit.

To answer the question directly; no I wouldn't tolerate that behavior. I would certainly have something to say to a passenger that did that... But I'm an old guy (late 40's) and I don't hang with the immature types that would relish stuff like that. I do have three teenagers... They are all experienced riders and have gotten the yelling/screaming/swearing treatment themselves. They'd never do it to a fellow cyclist. I'd like to believe that they would have choice words for a fellow passenger that engaged in such stupidity...

Tolerate?
sure..
I would also try to educate them with some facts, but that's all I can offer.
but chances are:

but chances are:
- If I was actually driving a car, I don't know anyone that would have any issues.
- If I was a passenger in someone else's car, I can only try to provide knowledge.
- truthfully... I'm not in a car that much with anyone other than my gf or workmate and we all ride. =)

I yell stuff at cyclists a lot. Most of the time its when they are grinding up a hill and in obvious distress. While smiling, I yell something like, "Feel the burn! Feel the burn!"

If I were the driver, there's no way I'd tolerate it. That behavior would cease or the passenger would be getting out and walking. If I were the passenger, I'd definitely have something to say, and would probably not choose to ride with that person in the future if they seemed set in their ways.

can you imagine somebody yelling at a cyclist, then get surrounded by like 10 of them and forced to drive at a slow 15mph or run over one of them? rofl. that would be GREAT!

If this is a potential issue for you, let me suggest that you need to be more discriminating when it comes to your friends.

So much anti-car in this forum. I love cars. Nothing like a twisty coast or mountain road and loads of torque. I commute by bike because I got sick of sitting in traffic on I-880, but I still love to drive. The song Red Barchetta by Rush is kind of my mentality.
