Is your makeup worth my life?

My commute is about 20km (one way) along the Trans Canada Highway and then through the city.
Twice this morning I noticed young female drivers putting on makeup while they are driving their Cavaliers at speed. They drive pretty good with their knees but looking into a vanity mirror and putting on whatever they do on their faces has to be somewhat distracting.
I think I am more apt to be killed by one of these morons than a drunk driver. And theres nothing I can do about it. Killing me will get them a traffic ticket and little else.

Quick, call the local news. They will undoubtedly want to run a story on your miraculous escape from the clutches of death.

People are selfish; anything pertaining to them is more important to them than anything pertaining to you.

See the above response.
As a LEO I know what justice is dealt when someone kills a ped or a cyclist.

Really? I'm curious. How many times were you involved in a situation where a pedestrian or cyclist was killed by a car? What were the circumstances and outcome in these cases?

Hmmm.
I can't remember all of the incidents over the years but I have been to many, many calls.
Three this year stick out in my mind. And all three drivers were given HTA offences.
And since my job is ident, I process the scene with the traffic guys.
As it sits, a driver of a vehicle who kills a cyclist in an "accident" (surely nobody wants to kill someone on purpose) is usually ticketed for undue care ect.
It rarely goes criminal unless the driver is prohib drunk ect. Might be different in the U.S but I doubt it.
The point is this. The courts need to toughen up on boneheads who kill or injure someone because of distractions inside the vehicle.
I have read that an automatic manslaughter charge for this type of offence is coming to some Euro countries. Maybe we need some of this in N.A.

A woman killed a motorcyclist around Chicago recently because she was too busy painting her nails to pay attention to her driving. She'll probably get off with a minor ticket instead of paying like she should.

Just curious, but as an LEO, why didn't you deal with these reckless drivers directly or by calling them in?

helmet camera - send the film to the police. that is all you can do, apart from hope that people like that drive into a lamp post and kill themselves without harming anyone else.

Happens all the time around here... Maybe some of the hostility from some posters is due to the fact that they don't want to contemplate how helpless they are when it comes to distracted drivers.

In our current culture, driving is seen by many as a passive activity that happens to take place while eating, talking on the cell phone, putting on make-up, etc. Cyclists are much more likely to be struck by a distracted drive than one who is DUI.

Sad and scary, but true.

That depends on the makeup.

Just kidding!

Seriously, I have some really expensive makeup but luckily for you I rarely ever wear the stuff and I definitely don't apply it while driving.

Hand me some cherry Chapstick and I'm good to go! No need to run over any cyclists while applying mascara on the way to work.

Do you know how many plates I would have to memorize (along with the time and description of driver) on one trip to work?
However, on rare occasions I have dealt with a few drivers who have shown complete disregard for public safety. But this has to wait until I'm back at work.

Don't they give you guys radios? When I was on the job, my portable and speaker-mic commuted with me.

My recent gripe is a rash of motor cyclists who feel they can fit in the same lane as me... even while I'm in the middle of the lane and they are traveling well above the speed limit.
