ever want to do that?
last night on the way home someone buzzed me, and then this morning someone buzzed me. this morning the cager stopped long enough for me to catch up and we had a shouting match in the middle of the street in front of the post office. I totally gave him an earful and now I've lost my voice. ARGH I was pissed from last night's buzzing, pissed about the rain AGAIN this morning, and finally the straw that set me off was that I was going 20 mph (the speed limit) on a twisty road with blind spots and so I took the lane so cager wouldn't pass me and so what did he do? passed me right before a blind bridge crossing! but not only did he pass me - he buzzed me less than 10" from my left shoulder! I shouted "HEY!" and would have left it at that if I had not caught up to him. I live in a small town 5 sq miles, a lot like Mayberry. I'm sure I embarrassed myself in front of 1/2 dozen people who know me.

+1. On the few occasions where I've gotten hassled, I smile and wave. One guy flipped me off again, I smiled and waved again. He started making all manner of interesting hand gestures; I smiled and waved again. By the time he was getting a hundred or so feet in front of me, I swear he was about to have an aneurysm or drive into a tree or something; I was very amused, still smiling.

N-D exp:
1. Buzzed so close by a p/u truck that the passenger mirror actually brushed my jacket sleeve -- ended up in the grass along the road.
2. Cut off by a JAM delivering his gf to the vocational center downtown -- had she not insisted they go on, we'd have come to throwing hands, cuz he had me hemmed up by the curb, heading for a parked car. He actually threatened (first) to shoot me in the street, or(then second) run me over in the street.
Both of these happened over five years ago; I get buzzed, on average, 2-3x/year, never in a position to catch the schweinhund.

Yes, passing too close can be physically dangerous. Once I accidentally got too close when turning L behind a large truck and the air turbulence backwash almost caused me to lose control of the bike in the middle of a busy street. My problem, but I learned that 3' is too close for a very large vehicle moving fast.
There are 2 very narrow underpasses I take to get across traintracks on my commute. Both are on a blind curve and one has barely enough room for small cars to squeeze through simultaneously without hitting the concrete walls of this short "tunnel". Usually I take the lane positioning myself to discourage them from trying to pass on the oncoming traffic lane; and I signal "slowing" with my L hand.
