The difference between my mornings biking vs. driving are...

1. Much more attention to the weather forecast and online radar.
2. Shorts and T rather than dress clothes for work.
3. Pack a lunch rather than plan to eat out.
4. Pack the panniers; computer gear, lunch, clothing.
5. Leave 15-20mins earlier.
6. Enjoy the ride as opposed to slogging through the drive or getting mad at other drivers.

I've tried to make that exact point to her, but after the glare I got I figured if pulling up my side of the covers helps keep the peace, I guess it's simple enough.

run around like a chicken w/ its head cut off trying to make sure I've packed everything my kids need, then pull the bikes out of the garage, then try to stage stuff (panniers 1st, they can sit in the rain while I herd the family and walk out w/ them and handlebar bag stuff and coffee), then hope I remember I made my lunch

I avoid checking the weather - knowing the temp/windchill has kept me from riding too often.

I check my pockets for all my essentials, feed the dogs, hang my pannier on the rack, turn on the blinkie, press the garage door opener ride out, close the garage door, turn on the headlight, ride 50 yds down the street, turn around and ride back to make sure I closed the garage door, then turn back around and ride on to work.

Shower, shave, brush teeth, wake up daughter, clean bird cage and feed bird, take bike out of garage, make breakfast, put bird back in cage, walk daughter and bike to school bus stop, put on helmet, get on bike.

The only regular "ritual" I have with regard to commuting is checking the weather forecast and radar. I don't like riding in the rain, snow, sleet, ice if I can help it. Even if no rain is expected, it helps to know the forecast with regard to clothing and other factors. Eg, today the forecast is calling for high winds this afternoon, which is kind of nice to know ahead of time. Also, I try to make a sandwich for lunch the night before since I usually don't have much time in the mornings. On Sundays, I generally recharge the batteries on my lights.

I've been accused of blowing smoke and waving rattles, but that is at work

My routine:
1 - Get out of bed (the hardest part of the commute)
2 - Put on clothes (probably the most important part of my commute)
3 - Kiss/say goodbye to wife
4 - Put panniers on bike
5 - Make sure I really did complete step 2
6 - Start peddling.

usually it begins the night before by bringing my bike inside the kitchen so i can pack it without running out to the garage. then it's shower, put on riding gear, then eat. then i realize i've got to go so it's take off my bibs and related gear and use the bathroom. I then realize the leisurely ride i was going to take will make me late so i end up mashing for the 21 miles it takes me to get to work
