Most people don't ride very hard so everything works out OK.

Thanks, but all of my discs are either BB7's or in the case of the one bike that's hydro it's XTR. But I've had Juicy 3's, I wouldn't consider them the death brakes you're making them out to be. Now Promax mechanicals... that's a different story. I'd agree though that the 3's wouldn't be the best choice on a MTB, but on a upright commuter bike? They'll be fine in most peoples hands

Nothing wrong with the Juicy 3's on my Seek;not high end,but certainly not junk.

Hydros are perfect for commuter bikes. Low maintenance(bleed 'em every couple of years, swap pads when needed, that's it),all weather braking, and no degredation in performance if you're wheel's not perfectly true.

I think the only thing dangerous about Juicy 3 brakes is the people who can't figure out how to adjust them. What about the brakes specifically make them more dangerous than any other brake when adjusted correctly? What technical feature, design flaw, or failure point specifically? You just spout your nonsensical opinion, proclaim it as fact, and disregard all evidence to the contrary.

The wheel cylinders will leak water and then they stop working. If you don't use 'em, they're fine.

It's sad when someone is so over-invested in an internet forum. It's always a good idea to imagine you're in front of a live audience, otherwise statements like this get posted and you look very rude and mean spirited

Replace seals. Problem solved. No brake system is maintenance free. Also, it's brake fluid, not water. You're also arguing that essentially a broken brake system that leaks is dangerous, not a fully functional system.

By that token, mechanical disc brakes are rubbish because the cables stretch and the pads wear down, and then they stop working. If you don't use em, they're fine.

Sorry my line was offensive. I would've said it in front of a live audience as well. I forgot you were such a staunch defender of forum civilities...

All I wrote was that the average person can't remove a deralliuer wheel, so it's a moot point about the Alfine's difficulty. Now why you think it's such a feat, I can't imagine, maybe your Mom dropped you on your head a few too many times

Water intrudes into the cylinder under foul weather conditions, cheap hydros are notorious for this. Water in the hydro fluid causes weak action and very poor feel.

I'm sorry... For water to "intrude" into the cylinder as you say, it would have to be pressurized. Unless your idea of "foul weather conditions" includes submerging the bike to the hubs I have problems with this.

As the piston moves from application, the crummy seals let water past, then the lever actions becomes soft. Cheap hydros do this, that's why I don't like them as much as cheap mechanicals. If you like cheap hydros, bully for you. Not everyone agrees on a common bike design, I guess that's normal....
