Survey On Bicycle Commuting For A Class Project
Hello all. My name is Will, and I have joined your forum because I have a class project. The project is to write a survey, and get 100 samples, then write a paper based on the survey results. Being a cyclist myself, I decided to make my survey cycling related, specifically collecting info on people who use their bicycles as transport.
So if you would be so kind as to oblige me and fill it out, the survey is very short, and my grade is depending upon it. Thank you
Survey can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2XV77VR

I filled out your survey, please share your results with us when you are finished. There were only a few basic questions though, what do you expect your paper will conclude from this data?

there was no category for 18 years old, just FYI, and you should've had higher increments of mileage. 7 miles isn't anything, and "and up" could mean 100 miles, which is getting up there in terms of mileage.

In the spirit of constructive suggestion:
And which button should a 50 yr old click?
And just like greater than 7 miles is pretty broad, so is 50 years old and over. Arithmetic aside, there's quite a difference between 58 years old and 73 years old, for example.
And I'd make the last set of buttons check boxes. I have a car but I'd check each of the other three choices and be hard pressed to call any of them primary reasons.
I also filled it out. Good luck with your class.

You mean distance one way on the distance question? It doesn't say. If it's round trip, 7 miles is ridiculously short, I bet more than half the people on this forum ride at least 5 miles ONE way, and it's very common to ride 8 to 15 miles one way, and some ride as many as 20 or more miles one way.
I also would have checked all three of the top choices on "why I commute". I have a car (two actually) and it would be no financial hardship whatsoever for me to drive them, but I still don't mind not spending the money since I'm having fun too.
That's another thing you didn't list on the last question - searching this forum for "why do you commute by bike" threads would find that a bunch of people bike to work simply because it's more fun than driving a car. Some also ride a bike because it's actually faster than driving a car.

Its fine on the criticism, part of the paper is writing a section where you list the shortcomings on your survey after having gotten all of the data, and how you would revise it if you were doing it again. The reason that it just lists 7 miles is because the survey was originally just for people who commuted to a specific place, and the question was asking them how far they lived from that place, but then I realized that there might not have been 100 people who rode bikes there, and even if there was interviewing all of them would have been hard, so I changed it slightly, I guess without accounting for the differences.

Sorry nahh, I wasn't quoting you to suggest any problem with your post. I was just trying to be helpful, maybe clumsily so. Probably would have been better if I'd said outright that I agreed with what you said and then explained that I had my own suggestions.

Come on guys, he probably wanted it as basic as possible. We just want someone to acknowledge our own individual ride because that is what we would discuss together. We are proud of different parts of our own commute but he clearly doesn't care.

I filled it out though I am wondering what you could use the data for. If you can give us a link to your paper or something when finished it would be approached.
